The university violated the First Amendment rights of our plaintiffs, who face a one-year ban from campus for participating in political protests on the IU-Bloomington campus.
BREAKING: We are suing the City of Fort Wayne and the Allen County Sheriff to immediately stop the use of chemical agents and projectiles on protesters.

The new law, set to take effect September 15, violates both the Indiana Constitution’s right to privacy and equal privileges protections.

HB 1608 would censor or even ban discussion or acknowledgment of LGBTQ people in schools.
We need you at the Statehouse with us on Monday to stop this bill.
🚨BREAKING: We’re filing a class action lawsuit to stop Indiana’s abortion ban, on the grounds that it violates the state’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA).
RFRA protects religious freedom for all Hoosiers, not just those who practice Christianity.

🏳️⚧️MAJOR VICTORY: A federal judge has blocked Indiana's new law banning gender-affirming care for trans youth that was set to take effect July 1.
This life-saving care will remain legal for trans Hoosiers of all ages while our lawsuit against the ban moves through the courts.
It's a devastating day for our trans community in Indiana.
Governor Holcomb today signed a ban on gender-affirming health care for trans youth — ignoring the warnings of parents, medical providers, and transgender youth themselves.
We intend to challenge this law in court.
BREAKING: The Indiana House has passed HB 1608, a disgraceful "Don't Say Gay" bill censoring discussion or even acknowledgment of LGBTQ people in schools.
The bill also forces teachers to out trans students without their consent — risking their safety at both school and home.
🎉BREAKING: HB 1134 is dead!
Senators missed today’s deadline to advance this classroom censorship bill that would have limited how Hoosier students learn and talk about race and sex discrimination in schools.

BREAKING: The Indiana Senate just passed SB 12, a book banning bill opening school librarians and teachers up to felony prosecution for having material a parent finds objectionable.
SB 12 would have a chilling effect on free speech in schools. The bill now heads to the House.
BREAKING: The Indiana legislature has passed a horrific bill banning gender-affirming health care for trans youth. SB 480 is on its way to Governor Holcomb, and we urge him to veto it.
If this dangerous bill is signed into law, we will defend the rights of trans youth in court.
As police increasingly use invasive technology to surveil protesters, here are our tips for how you can reduce risk to yourself while exercising your right to protest.
RIGHT NOW: Thousands of Hoosiers are packing the Statehouse as Indiana legislators prepare to debate banning abortion in our state.
We aren't backing down — not now, or ever. 💪

HAPPENING NOW: Hundreds of Hoosiers are with us packing the Statehouse to stop Indiana's hateful "Don't Say Gay" bill, HB 1608.

BREAKING: We're suing to stop Indiana's new law prohibiting a person from coming within 25 feet of a police officer if the person is told to move away.
By infringing on citizens' constitutional right to observe & record police interactions, this law violates the First Amendment.

It's a dark day in the state of Indiana. The Indiana General Assembly has passed a ban on abortion, turning back the clock 50 years on Hoosiers’ fundamental right to control their own bodies.
SB 1 is on its way to Governor Holcomb's desk, and would take effect September 15.
BREAKING: The Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals is allowing Indiana’s ban on gender-affirming care for trans youth to take effect immediately.
This ruling is beyond disappointing and a heartbreaking development for thousands of trans youth, their doctors, and their families.
BREAKING: The Indiana Senate has voted to force Hoosiers to carry pregnancies against their will by passing an all-out abortion ban.
SB 1 will advance to the Indiana House next week, and we cannot back down now. This is a red alert moment for reproductive rights in Indiana.
BREAKING: We just filed a lawsuit against the state of Indiana over their ban on providing or even referring trans youth for gender-affirming care.
Indiana — we'll see you in court.
To all the trans kids being targeted by the Indiana General Assembly:

You belong here.
You are not alone.
You deserve better.

The Pendleton Heights Gay-Straight Alliance has not been allowed to publicize its existence on school bulletin boards or on the school’s radio station, while other clubs are able to do so.
That's why we sued.
🎉VICTORY: A second judge has blocked enforcement of Indiana's abortion ban — this time on the grounds of religious freedom.
Abortion will remain legal in Indiana while our litigation continues.
BREAKING: Indiana legislators just passed an alarming book ban bill that opens schools, teachers, and librarians up to penalties if a parent deems their material "harmful."
Lawmakers did this by quickly and quietly adding language from a dead bill into a separate bill, HB 1447.
Bills like SB 12 have historically been used as a tool to ban material on sex education and LGBTQ issues.
Just because one person finds a book objectionable doesn't give them the right to ban it for a whole school.
Censorship is un-American and has no place in Indiana.

HAPPENING NOW: Hundreds of Hoosiers have gathered with us at the Statehouse to show our love and support for the trans community amid ongoing anti-trans bills in our state. 🏳️⚧️

🚨BREAKING: We've filed a lawsuit alongside
@ACLU
to challenge Indiana's new law prohibiting doctors from providing gender-affirming care for trans youth or even referring young people for this life-saving care.
SB 480, signed today by Gov. Holcomb, is set to take effect July 1.
SB 1 is a cruel and dangerous attack on liberty and freedom.
We won’t stop fighting until everyone can access the abortion care they need without politicians interfering, because everyone deserves the freedom to decide if and when to have a child.

Hoosiers are making it loud and clear that we support the LGBTQ community, and we want Indiana to be a welcoming state. 🌈
We won’t let anti-LGBTQ politicians bring our spirits down.
HB 1608, Indiana's shameful "Don't Say Gay" bill censoring discussions of LGBTQ people in schools, just passed out of committee & is on its way to the full House floor.
A dangerous amendment just added to the bill also forces schools to out trans students without their consent.
When we fight for trans kids, we win. 🏳️⚧️
This victory belongs to the trans youth of Indiana, who deserve to live as their authentic selves and to play the sports they love, free from discrimination.

Indiana is poised to become the first state in the country to pass a new abortion ban since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
SB 1 will force Hoosiers to carry pregnancies against their will. This bill ignores the majority of Hoosiers who support abortion access.
Unconscionable. The Indiana Senate just passed SB 480, a radical bill banning nearly all forms of evidence-based medical care available for trans youth.
This cruel bill shuts the door on medical best practice and puts politics between parents, their children, and their doctors.

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to review a federal court ruling in favor of a transgender student challenging a discriminatory restroom policy at an Indiana public school.
A lower court’s ruling remains in place requiring the school to treat trans students equally.
⚠️Governor Holcomb today signed HB 1608, the "Don't Say Gay" bill, into law. This law attempts to erase LGBTQ voices, histories, and lived experiences from schools.
Our attorneys are assessing the law, and we will do everything in our power to protect LGBTQ rights.
Parents of trans youth are fighting to stop

The impact of restricting abortion access will fall hardest on people who already face systemic racism & barriers to health care access.
Given Indiana’s maternal mortality crisis, we know that banning abortion puts the lives of pregnant Hoosiers at risk — especially Black women.
We are monitoring the situation at IU Bloomington where police officers are detaining peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters.
The First Amendment is central to our democracy. Suppressing these rights through unwarranted police action weakens our society's commitment to free speech.
BREAKING: The Indiana Supreme Court ruled today that the state’s near-total abortion ban can take effect.
Abortion will be banned in Indiana, with limited exceptions, as soon as August 1.
This is a serious setback, but the fight isn't over.
Reminder:
You can decide not to read a book.
You can decide your child will not read a book.
But you don't get to ban that book for an entire classroom, school, or state.
BREAKING: A federal judge has ordered a Martinsville middle school to stop denying a transgender student access to the correct restroom, while our lawsuit against the school moves through the courts.
This is a victory for trans students! 🏳️⚧️
Politicians have no place trying to ban the medical care that Indiana's trans youth need in order to live happy and healthy lives.
Medical decisions belong to:
✔️ Trans youth
✔️ Their parents
✔️ Their doctors
❌ Politicians

A person can decide that they don't want to read a certain book.
A person can decide that they don't want their child to read that book.
But a person can't decide that an entire school or entire town can't read that book.
Indiana legislators could act at anytime to ban abortion in our state – but we have the power to fight back. ⚠️
Join us at the Statehouse TOMORROW at 11am for an emergency rally to demand lawmakers and Governor Holcomb keep abortion safe, legal, and accessible in Indiana. 📣
Indiana has the third highest maternal mortality rate in the country, which disproportionately impacts women of color.
Restricting access to safe, legal abortion care would put even more pregnant Hoosiers' lives at risk.
BREAKING: We're suing to stop HB 1608, Indiana's new classroom censorship law that effectively bans mentions of LGBTQ people in schools, grades PreK-3.
Our lawsuit, filed on behalf of a public school teacher, asserts that the law violates the First Amendment and is overly broad.
Indiana legislators want to force LGBTQ people back into the closet and live a lie — but Hoosiers have shown up to the Statehouse to say: WE WON’T GO BACK. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈

Indiana's ban on abortion is now in effect, eliminating abortion access across the state.
Every day that this ban is in effect, Hoosiers are unable to access critical health care.
This week marks the 54th anniversary of the Kent State shootings.
Now, snipers have been placed on rooftops at IU in response to peaceful student protests.
A militarized police response like this only escalates tensions, and should not be normalized in a democracy like ours.
For the second time this week, Hoosiers are packing the Statehouse to defend LGBTQ rights. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
