When I was taught to ride a motorbike back in 1976 my instructor said you don't want this on your headstone.
"He was right so right as he rode along
But he's just as dead as if he were wrong"
I'd have let the lorry go in that situation.
I would like to say a huge thank you to the Taxi Drivers of London. My son was stuck at Uni last night following the London Bridge attack, no trains were running & Uber were surging their prices five fold. A taxi driver gave him a lift 15 miles home and refused to charge him.
I'm not a vigilante cyclist, clearly The Spectator clearly don't own a dictionary.
Four years ago I was blue lighted to St George's for life saving surgery due to an inattentive motorist. If I can get just one driver to change their habits I'll be happy.
The horrific crash involving Romain Grosjean at the Bahrain Grand Prix shows the importance of fire proof overalls, crash helmets & 5 point safety harnesses. That's why we need to make these compulsory in all cars driven on the road. If it saves just one life, it'll be worth it.
Islington head teacher blocks off a segregated cycle lane because he's worried about his pupils being hit by people riding bikes. Why doesn't he block the road to stop people driving cars from hitting his pupils?
That is Dangerous Driving, and the coach driver is looking at a minimum ban of six months.

Every day this car owner starts their car using an app on their phone and leaves it running for up to ten minutes so that the car is nice and warm inside when they take their children to the childminder. EVERY DAY. Today I smelt the fumes from 50 metres away.
Traditional speed cushions do not slow down motor vehicles because they are able to straddle them & be driven over at 30 mph. They also force cyclists either into the gutter or oncoming traffic.

Took my new bike out for a ride today. I had hoped to go to Mitcham via the Wandle Trail, but thanks to

Cyclist hospitalised after hit and run with BMW driver.
I don't know what's more shocking, the fact the motorist drove off or that the Police told him to get the CCTV footage himself.
Nick buys a flat knowing that it comes without a parking space and that there is nowhere to park a car. He now complains that there is nowhere to park his car. You couldn't make it up.
Saw this on a local Facebook page.
"If you were the cyclist that got knocked off your bike at the mini-roundabout at the end of West Street in Carshalton at about 15:15 this afternoon, this was the car that hit you and drove off."
I've just seen my neighbour load up his car with four bikes to take his wife and children to the park for a ride. All four were wearing their cycle helmets inside the car. Yes, they were wearing their bike helmets in the car!!!
@SurreyRS
I'm very disappointed in this tweet. The video that you have posted does not show any offence being committed. If I were to submit this to the
@metpoliceuk
of a motor vehicle doing the same they would not proceed with a prosecution.
Your account is usually unbiased.

I went for a 37 mile bike ride today and when I got home I made four online reports to the Met Police. Two for mobile phone use, one Close Pass and a SMIDSY. Saw at least two other phone users, but feel that the evidence will not be good enough.
Just got home from Court. Driver failed to turn up for the second time and was tried and found guilty in his absence.
Inconsiderate driving = £220 fine
No Insurance = £660 fine and six points
£200 costs and a £80/100 Victim surcharge
Over £1,100 for not waiting 30 seconds.
Following my crash last week, a few of my friends have commented that maybe it's time to stop cycling. Would they say that it's time to stop driving if I was involved in a car crash?
Today is the start of Stoptober.
Stop using your mobile phone whilst driving.
Throughout this month I will be reporting EVERY person that I see using their phone whilst driving with no exception.
I caught two people this morning on the way in to work.
If neither
@MetCC
nor
@EssexPoliceUK
prosecute this driver for Dangerous Driving, or at the very least Careless Driving, it will send out a message to drivers that they can run over anyone that gets in their way and evade prosecution.
Just tried to take this bicycle along the Wandle Trail. Sadly it won't fit through the barriers in Watermead Lane because a dozen residents moaned to

If Josh had been stabbed the Police would have been down there straight away, taped off the road and collected CCTV footage from nearby cameras. But this was 'just' a motoring offence so he had to do it all himself. The Police have been very quiet publicly, unlike for a stabbing.
The car that struck cyclist Josh Dey was driving on the wrong side of the road and hit him with such force it sent the medical student spinning through the air and left him fighting for his life in the middle of the street. He spoke to

about what happened.

New driver has insurance cancelled and is looking for alternative cover. Cheapest quote so far £6960 a year.
Maybe if you didn't exceed the speed limit by nearly 50% you'd still have cover and it wouldn't cost you so much elsewhere.
Many thanks to

, who posted a tip a few years ago, about using a £5 note to line a tyre when there's a split or large hole in it. Without that I'd have been pushing my bike home, uphill, for two miles.

We have cars covered in it and big flashy lights and drivers STILL don’t see us.
The A24/CS7 is a joy to use now that a lot of it has wands along the edge, but why is this allowed in Balham? Just so people can get their Big Mac fix.
Some people have asked when I'll be posting a video of my crash from 2019.
I'll be posting an analysis on

later this year, but in the meantime, here's a snippet.
Today, for the first time since my crash at the beginning of January, I rode a bike for the first time. Only a mile around a car park, but for me this was a great achievement. Many thanks to
@wally_cycles
for servicing it and converting it to semi-hydraulic brakes.
What's the reason for the reflective arm and leg bands? It's broad daylight. If a driver can't see a 4' 6" child, they're not going to see the 4" armbands.

Many thanks and kind regards.

Not only have the pro-pollution brigade planted a bomb that damaged property and had the potential to seriously injure or kill, they've cut down traffic lights that has directly contributed to a collision that has injured innocent members of the public.

@SuttonCouncil
recently painted double yellow lines on this road to stop vehicles parking there and to keep this busy A road free running.
Because this van driver is no longer allowed to park in the road, he's decided to park on the pavement instead.
Why is it that some people don't want to drive behind a cyclist and must get in front of them?
A van driver's impatience ended up with a Notice of Intended Prosecution being sent to his employers and it's most likely that he would have ended up with a £100 fine and three points.
Why do people, such as the media and Utility Companies, make reference to the person riding a bicycle but when it's a motorised vehicle they refer to the vehicle and not the person in control of it?
@theJeremyVine
Just been advised of another owner being fined for failing to advise who was driving whilst using their mobile phone. £200 fine turned into £660 fine + £100 costs + £66 victim surcharge = £826. Over four times higher. And she still got given six points on top. Video to follow.
If we install these barriers it will slow down people on bicycles because they will have to manoeuvre their way around them. And it will stop people riding mopeds through the park.
Motorists, when coming up to a give way line, please approach it slowly, do not race up to it because it can be a bit scary for people cycling on the main road.
We don't know if you've seen us or if you're going to pull out into our path.
Oh what a surprise, the cycle lane had another vehicle parked in it today when I rode past.
Will
@SuttonCouncil
ever enforce the parking regs here? I won't hold my breath.
This car is regularly parked across this dropped kerb, inconveniencing those in wheelchairs or pushing buggies.
It seems that they forgot to get their car MOT'd at the end of last year.
This week I had a long chat with Mrs Net and we've agreed that before the end of the year I'll cycle the route that I would have taken that day, past where I was hit and onto my office. It'll probably be at the weekend, although I may take a day off to do it.
