In the 70s working 7 days a week down t'pit my dad grew veg and kept chickens in our garden. That was our foodbank. My dad voted Tory for the 1st time in 2019. He will again at the next election. A great man. Comments turned off to send the left in to meltdown. But u can like 🙂
The way some people need to suck the joy from everything. Mark Cavendish isn’t Eddy Merckx, he’s not the greatest male road racer of all-time. But he is the greatest road sprinter. Can’t we just all enjoy that?
I have a great sense of personal loss today to learn of the death of Brian Robinson, the first British winner of a stage in the Tour de France. It was an absolute honour to have known Brian, a man of great achievement and great modesty. Respect!
@rob_from_ash
Yes, my dad occasionally did overtime. But I think Lee is implying his dad worked 7 days a week every week, while running a small farm, just to have a swipe at food banks. The very food banks Tory austerity spawned.
One year ago today I lost my beautiful wife Kathleen to cancer. I haven't Tweeted about it b4 because it's personal, and for a long time it was too raw to talk about. But I want thank the people who helped us, and in the last year helped me reach a form of acceptance❤️
@HHepplewhite
@Jacob_Rees_Mogg
I'm from a pit village in South Yorkshire, and Jacob Rees-Mogg would not piss on the likes of us if we were on fire. He and his like hold us in utter contempt.
Very sad to hear Tony Doyle has died. A great champion, an extremely kind man who helped me keep things going when my wife Kath was ill, and after her death. He never left me more than a few days without a reassuring supportive phone call, and helped me get back on my feet again.
Just heard, another local cyclist killed on Saturday riding with a group by a motor vehicle. Don’t give me ‘cyclists need reg plates, insurance, red light, helmets’ It’s all bollocks, drivers are in charge of lethal weapons, pay attention, take care, have patience &stop killing
I misssed it in all the media furore over Mark, the oldest surviving Tour de France winner was 93 years young yesterday.
Happy birthday to the Eagle of Toledo,
Federico Bahamontes
Yes cyclists want to pay tax for upkeep of roads, providing it’s proportional to the damage we cause the roads and environment. AND upkeep is removed from general taxation. Thank you!
@ChrisSidwells
@PoliticsPollss
I'm more than happy to pay road damage tax for my bike, as long as it's proportionate to the damage done based on weight and surface contact. Here's how (ridiculous) that would look in real terms.
@tonyblackburn
You have one every day. AND Tone, mate, we all pay for the roads through our taxes. Road tax was repealed way back before even you were born.
On t' pusher. 82 years young, 10 Grand Tour stages & a classic, he loves the bike like kid who discovered it Wakefield way back when. Barry Hoban is a big part of the 2022 Tour de France coverage on the Cycling Legends Podcast- a magazine for your ears

I write a lot about cycling of the past, where there were many golden eras, but I have to say we are in one now. There are several huge talents, the general standard I’d super high, and the racing is fantastic.

Had to let my cat go today. He was fit and strong for 18 years, but in the last 2 months his kidneys were failing. He collapsed this morning, so that was enough. Thank you Spider.
FYI- Barry Hoban didn't suffer a heart recently, it was a heart episode caused by the successful chemo he is having. Spoke to him this morning & he is having a pacemaker fitted. He looks and sounds well & says if
@MarkCavendish
wants another Tour & needs a lead-out to phone him.
@PoliticsPollss
We do, same as drivers- through our taxes. This despite not damaging them. Now, write that out 100 times so it lodges somewhere in the cement you have in your head.
Just 54 years ago in July Tour de France riders regularly raced through ice cuttings like this near the summits of the high Alpine passes. Just sayin'
@UNFCCC
Pleased to see my unfollowers rate has levelled off. Thanks to those who stayed. I am a bit left wing, as you’ve realised. I was never struck with Tory ideals, but thought Thatcherism was the worst it could get. I was wrong; badly, tragically wrong.
Happy birthday to a true British cycling legend Barry Hoban, 84 years young today and winner of 8 stages in the Tour de France. and still the only UK man to win the classic, Ghent-Wevelgem. Also a true friend ❤️.
Big news for the Tom Simpson Retro Ride & Cycling Festival in Harworth this weekend:- an additional pro rider guest joining us on both days- it's the 1982 road race world champion, Mandy Jones. And she's bringing the bike she won her world title on to add to our retro bike expo
Dear
@BBCSport
when you are maundering on about cricket, rugby and football every day, may I remind you that over the last 10 years 4 of YOUR sports personalities of the year have been cyclists.

@metpoliceuk
this is wrong. This is not what policing in the UK is about, this is not policing by the community's consent. The officer knows that, his body language says so. You are letting him down, you let yourself down and you are letting us down.
Congratulations to my great friend Dave Marsh, whose incredible bike shop, Universal Cycle Centre in Maltby near Rotherham, celebrates its 40th birthday today and is about to launch a new venture. More soon on
