Dr. No, really. Tweets about race mainly. HIV and sexual health SpR. ex-medreg. MA Med Ethics and Law. Views obvs my own, duh. 🌈✨Dr Yasmin Walters✨🌈she/her
So I finished an ICU shift.
Things are SO much worse than before.
I’m most sad at how hardened I am to it. I saw so much tragedy in a 13 hour shift and it’s just normal now.
@tfl
was supporting a medical emergency on a tube platform last night. The attitude of one of your workers was disgusting. She did not believe I was a doctor, presumably as I’m a young Black woman, and insisted I show ID.
Cont/
Also- a white male OT was present and all staff (and paramedics!!!) continued to defer to him for information/decisions, despite me being the ALS trained medical doctor. He didn’t correct them. He wasn’t asked for ID.
Being a Black woman is exhausting.
I’ve run cardiac arrests at 4am on my 4th night shift as medreg.
I am literally the perfect person for the situation.
But whatevs, I’m a Black woman, so check I’ve got a badge and I’m not a liar before you let me do my stuff.
Mortgage going up by £700. The strike is looking harder for me to stay involved with, which is heart breaking. I’m not a scab, but I also don’t want to be literally homeless.
Want to give a shout out to Sophie who’s a fertility nurse and was also there helping. She also checked in on me after as I was clearly upset about how I was treated.
She pressured me to move an unconscious pt post fall, and when I firmly stated this was not to be done she shouted at me and told me my tone was inappropriate.
I assure you that my tone was appropriate for ensuring a person with a collapse and loss of conscious wasn’t moved.
I’ve been a bystander at multiple emergencies over my 8 years as a doctor. Post emergency you’re asked to provide contact details/GMC no etc.
To be asked mid emergency for formal ID was inappropriate, disrespectful to me and unsafe for the patient .

When you’re worried about being treated as a minority, it means you’re treating real minorities badly. How can you not see that?!
Today in micro-aggressions: jumping off my bike after seeing two cyclists collide (due to rogue buggy in a cycle lane action). When police arrive they tell me to get out of the way, and don’t believe me when I say I’m a doctor.
I wonder why...?
Yet another email from HEE welcoming me to GUM, giving me a start date for ST3.
I’m in the middle of ST5 and literally had my ARCP today.
WHAT DO THEY DO?!?
All your unsolicited advice is insulting. I’m not an idiot. I know what a locum is. The strike fund is not gonna cover this sort of jump in bills (£50 a day!). Also a lot of you are wreaking of entitlement. If you can’t imagine being in my position, you’re privileged.

Another day, another letter written to a GP asking them to refer to gynae because I, the GENITOURINARY DOCTOR, am not allowed do so directly because of funding. Ffs.
@BBCBreakfast
It’s a sodding nightmare. I’m one of the residents supposedly benefiting, but it’s just ridiculous. Kids aren’t now “playing in the street”. It’s a still a road ffs.
I’m hopefully flying to Jamaica 16th Jan, and have now cancelled every plan between now and then including attending two celebrations for my 30th bday. Not intending to get public transport, go in shops or eat out between now and then.
Am I being stupid? Need reassurance…
To the person on my consultant feedback who labelled me loud among other, non constructive things…
Especially as a woman of colour this is so insulting and hurtful.
@DrBenLovell
Period pains when I was 13, and the associated vomiting and diarrhoea. My parents coming to collect me from the school toilets where I was lying on the floor in agony. Dad said it was like seeing mom in Labour 😬😬😬
My boyfriend has picked me up from my on calls this weekend because my commute takes me past where

No it’s not. It’s science. Normally I agree (modern medicine is inherently geared towards white people) but the rice thing is hella true. The bug is called bacillus cereus and I can make you soooo ill
@mhairibrown
@drphilhammond
I disagree. It’s a totally valid question and he has a right to try and prepare himself as best as he can. The unknown has given me more anxiety than the disease itself.

How?!? The stole my Instagram photos for an article about fat people in bikinis (I know) without my consent. I complained but nothing happened. Was like 10-11 years ago tho
Shit like this is why I was worried to go Cambridge. Ignorant white people thinking they’re gods gift for being able to impress other, older posh white people at interview at the age of 17.
I pay a Union to represent me.
This guy is not from the BMA.
And this begins the ego contest which will yet again ruin the cause and mean a strike will do very little.
I was on BBC News this afternoon talking about the possibility of NHS strikes. No one wants to strike but if this is what we have to do to protect our patients and ourselves, then so be it.

I held up the relative of a dying man who was allowed to see his brother before dying. His legs literally gave way from the pain.
I facilitated last conversations over WhatsApp.
I held the hands of another dying man.
Get the fuck off my timeline.

@DoreenCrawford
I have mental health problems and have managed to not murder multiple babies. Maybe tackling the management structures that left her unchecked is a better use of resources…

You’ve put this oh so more elegantly than I could. She’s speaking his language, which is based on the jacked up, hyper masc patriarchy. It’s why it’s cut him so deeply.
@chelleysinclair
Thanks for spotting the true villain- the Tories who have ruined this country for an entire generation. Not a supposed scab doctor who wants to keep her house.

I’ll say it, as I didn’t sit it and won’t disclose who told me
Basically a question about a “homosexual” and a needle stick, which infection are you more likely to contract.
I actually DESPAIR!!
I’ve bough two ceramic pots to leave the ring in when I’m doing housework, and it’s now got insurance. Finally starting to feel less scared about the best thing I’ve ever owned!!
My covid test is negative, I’m officially going to jamaica. I have a gin and tonic in hand…
And I’m worried about not hitting my

I've worked every xmas since I was a doctor and I cannot tell you how demoralising it is to change jobs every year and every year being the poor twat working the xmas hols.
New breed of reply guy- telling me I'm being sour for being upset my food got stolen whilst working miles away from my family.
Oh and apparently I won't be alone on xmas because I'll have my patients and colleagues. Cool, tell that to my mom yeah?
I cried a lot today. Way after this spectacular PPE pain selfie (after only 4 hours). Medicine is humbling. Can’t wait to feel like I know what I’m doing again.
GP yday gave me ONE RING to answer my phone. No voicemail let. I held it in my hand all day waiting for that one call. Reception says I missed my chance and there are no appointments today and that I won’t be called unless I re-refer myself through the app

Pretty sure you can intervene with breaches of the Equality Act hun…
S149 sets out the general equality duty, to eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
THIS is harassment and victimisation babe. Sort it out.
Having raised this is with my old medschool mere hours ago, they've updated the prospectus and website to reflect more accurately what happens when students also happen to have BBVs.
Really impressed👏🏾
@Cambridge_Uni
was looking at the admissions page for A100 medicine (
#procrastination
) and can't help noticing you've got some incorrect and rather discriminatory information on blood born viruses that might be off-putting to people living with HIV etc
