One of the first woodland flowers of the year, the Lesser Celandine, Ficaria verna is an important nectar source for queen bumblebees emerging from hibernation. Other names Brighteye, Smallwort, Figwort and Pilewort. The latter as it was believed to be a remedy for haemorrhoids!
It’s great to see a farmer providing a crop for pollinators & raising money for charity. However, hay meadows (rather than a pictorial meadow) are true wildlife havens. They provide grasses & wildflower food plants that meet the needs of each stage of an invertebrates lifecycle.
Distinguishing between Blackthorn, Prunus spinosa and Cherry plum, Prunus cerasifera can be a little tricky especially if you are new to botany, so just posting these excellent info graphics by the wonderful

The fragrance of Sweet Violet, Viola odorata has been the scent of love for thousands of years. Oil distilled from petals is used to make perfume. Legend says you can only smell violets once, interestingly the flowers produce a chemical ionine, which dulls the sense of smell.
