AOC is a great case study of a leader with deeply progressive values who understands how power can be used to secure material change while rejecting empty posturing that makes a small cluster of very online purists feel validated.
AOC is a great case study of how DC can transform a young person with an exciting and aspirational worldview into an extremely predictable and boring politician
Biden: Happy Monday. I’m cancelling more student loan debt.
Trump: Happy Monday. A 12 year old should be forced to bear her rapist’s baby if a state government says so.
Pick a side, y’all.
Y'all are making this WAY too complicated.
They are BOTH old.
One of them tried to cancel a lot of student loan debt and was stopped by the Supreme Court (so he canceled a little less).
One of them is the reason the Supreme Court ended the right to an abortion in this country.
NEW:
@CBSNews
has learned the Red Cross is declaring a national blood crisis for the first time and tomorrow the organization will ask people to donate immediately.
Elizabeth Warren, unsurprisingly, perfectly explains why broad cancellation of student loan debt stands to benefit the entire economy and all who participate in it.
I love this woman so very much.
The Founding Fathers never intended for Washington D.C. to be a state.
#DCStatehood
is really about packing the Senate with Democrats in order to pass a left-wing agenda.
Just look at the DC voter registration data:
🔵 76.4% Democrat
🔴 5.7% Republican
Can’t say I support what that twink did, but I don’t think he was trying to kill Members of Congress or overthrow the government while he was Lawrence v. Texasing on the dais.
I’m a gay black boy from rural Georgia.
@ewarren
is the only candidate I’ve ever felt who not only sees me, but has plans to affirm me and empower the voices of the communities to which I belong.
And what’s even better? She’s asking us to hold her accountable.
#WinWithWarren
How do we honor this man who likely saved the lives of several United States Senators on Wednesday?
For starters: I can think of a Senate office building in DIRE need of a new name.
Here’s what we’re NOT gonna do:
We’re NOT gonna try and rewrite history and pretend that Elizabeth Warren is some sort of corporate shill with something to hide.
She hands CEOs their asses in plain view. Transparently.
Others should take note.
What Kamala Harris did tonight—coming off as comfortable, authoritative, accessible, and pointed—cannot be ignored.
She was working against a mountain of stereotypes and misogynoir and she pulled it off with aplomb.
This cannot be glossed over. I’m so proud of her.
#VPDebate
This is not correct. The Senate’s organizing resolution for committees (S. Res. 30) specifically provides for a successor to be chosen. Republicans may try and delay it, but they cannot unilaterally deny Democrats the committee ratio our majority provides.
Diane Feinstein’s passing all but ensures that Republicans can effectively block every federal judge nomination by denying a replacement for her seat on the judiciary committee.
The British monarchy allowing yet another Princess of Wales to twist publicly in the wind while she undergoes deep personal anguish is very on brand actually.
Part of the reason why Lauren Boebert feels so comfortable repeatedly targeting Ilhan Omar is that she's seen many of Omar's own Democratic colleagues time and again trip over themselves to condemn her...
...but y'all aren't ready for that conversation.
The more I think about that Claire McCaskill clip, the angrier I get.
Black people likely just saved this country’s ass in pivotal states and she’s out here peddling the “we need more bigoted white people in our coalition” snake oil?
Miss me with ALL of that.
I mean this: I'm very proud of the 48
@SenateDems
who stood on the right side of history this evening—especially the ones who honestly evolved on the filibuster to get here.
It's a tough loss. But this fight is not over. The fight for a Senate that works is certainly not over.
What Senator Cornyn is referring to is what our peer democracies refer to as “governing.”
I know the concept is rather foreign to the GOP, but I’m told it has its benefits.
A practical consequence of breaking the filibuster rule is legislative whiplash. Each time a party gets a bare majority, it can jam bill through, only to be reversed when tides turn.
If you're a progressive in the year of our Beyoncé 2021 and your concern is "who should primary Biden" and NOT "how do we build power in the states to beat back fascism and grow our bench," then please do not speak to me.
Thank you.
With Leonsis expected to join Youngkin at tomorrow's announcement, it appears D.C.'s only hopes of keeping the teams rest on the bill getting stuck in Richmond, or the neighborhood revolting in NIMBYism.
I’m not sure how we’re gonna do it, but we simply must build a version of American democracy where people like this are relegated to the fringes, not gift wrapped a seat in Congress.
This is so unserious and it makes me angry.
Days when Ted Cruz is being smug and dumb (so most of them), I think back to this moment when Sally Yates and her UGA law degree did what she needed to do.
If I lived in a Super Tuesday state, I’d vote for Elizabeth Warren today, because she’s the only person who did the work to earn my vote. She’s not trying to scare me into submission.
She’d also make a fucking magnificent president, and everyone here knows it.
#ChooseWarren
Every SINGLE time she speaks, Elizabeth Warren offers a cogent, comprehensive, and informed answer about each policy.
She is a treasure in our party and we would be ridiculously fortunate to have her as our president.
#DemDebate
Joe Biden is the most successful progressive president in modern American history -- and the best on climate action, by leaps and bounds. His re-election is of paramount importance. His loss in November would be catastrophic for the country and the planet. Thats it folks.
If you ever wondered what world leaders chat about in private, well here at NATO they’re gossiping about
#Trump
.
Leaked Video shows Canada’s Trudeau (with a 🍺), France’s Macron, UK’s Johnson making fun of Trump’s long pressers and his staff reactions:
Lauren Underwood flipped a red district (and got re-elected in a tough year) as a young Black woman. She has cemented herself as a thoughtful rising star without damaging the Democratic Party’s brand or trash talking the president’s agenda.
I think about that a lot.
Bernard has had a full five years to get a better answer than this.
What good is being right if you don’t actually have a plan to get the right thing done?
Details matter. Elizabeth Warren did her homework. Bernie did not.
Elizabeth Warren being a “Republican” in the 80s is like me being “straight” in high school—it wasn’t real, we regret it, nobody got hurt by our individual actions, and no one who was truly paying attention believed it was true.
Being a dc staffer of a certain age is realizing that this person was absolutely terrible at his job and should’ve been summarily fired on multiple occasions.
This is a frightening level of delusion (and I use that word specifically) from an advocate—whose work I respect—with a very large following.
It’s one thing to have serious criticism. It’s another thing entirely to lead folks down a path so obviously untethered from reality.
Look at these two swing state Democratic senators smiling, fighting for Georgia's families, and *not* stymying the president's agenda.
Things we love to see: IT.
Every single Senate staffer who continues to reply all (in error) to this emergency email that’s going campus wide needs to be placed on a performance improvement plan IMMEDIATELY.
NEW: White House
@PressSec
violated a law intended to prevent officials from using their office to influence elections when she repeatedly referred to “mega MAGA Republicans” in the run-up to the 2022 midterms, the Office of Special Counsel said
My mom just told me that Biden's actions zeroed out student loan debt for her that I didn't even know she still had...
Yep. Gonna be useless for the rest of the afternoon. 🥹
@SymoneDSanders
No one said he's praising a segregationist. The criticism isn't that JB loves segregationists, but that he fetishizes a bygone era of compromise and civility wherein many people's (especially PoC) lives were still utterly destroyed—many times AS A DIRECT RESULT of that compromise
