Here is what the data shows (Kendler, 2004) for ‘major depression’ (not bipolar, post-partum). An incredible correlation between number of stressful life events and risk of depression (modulated by personality which of course has some genetic component to it). 1/n

I implemented @yudapearl et al.'s approach to determine P(Benefit) from RCT + observational data in R and applied it to the comparison of long-term psychodynamic therapy (LTPP) and CBT for depression. The results are interesting enough to share it in a quick 🧵.

Intensive (8 days, 16 sessions) trauma-focused treatment of #cPTSD and Borderline PD. No stabilization or emotion regulation prior to exposure, ~70% remission rates. Stable/increasing results after 12 months of follow-up, no adverse events.

Unpopular opinion: in the long run, the activist currents that want to turn psychological trauma into a kind of "neurodiversity" will do considerable harm to those affected. If you care about trauma victims, advocate for them to have access to effective psychotherapy.
