Very thrilled to say, Iโve signed an exclusive contract with
@DCOfficial
and am very excited to tell more stories with these characters and this universe. Many cool things to come!
@thedcnation
Got paid royalties that were owed to me (and the artist). No mention of it for years from the publisher until chased.
Iโm going to spend part of it to fund someoneโs unpublished comic. No strings.
Fuck exploitative publishing. Make art. Pay people. Watch this space.
Tweeple! Our new Detective Comics Run
@dccomics
starting with
#1062
is on FOC this week. As you bask in the glory of this new logo and cover dress, please take a moment to let your comic store know you want a copy! The whole creative team and I can't wait for you to cheggitout!
I've not been active on socials and dropped off the radar a bit on emails etc. I've had very little sleep and I've done very little work. Because on June 3rd my wife and I welcomed this little fella into the world. I'll be back soon. But for now, all is quiet and well :) <3
The word's out! I'm writing a new Swamp Thing series
@dccomics
in 2021 w Mike Perkins on art,
@SpicerColor
on Colours and
@adityab
on letters. An absolute pleasure to say
#SwampThing
#1
drops in March, hot on the heels of Future State. Come follow us into the green.
@thedcnation
Okay! hereโs the cover for The Swamp Thing
#14
in the
@dccomics
solicits for June. Itโs probably my favourite Perkins/Spicer cover of the whole series.
Look, itโs beautiful. ๐
Anyone who describes writing as "You get paid to write the stuff we want..." has not a clue what writing is about.
I don't know how many times people need to hear it, that is simply not how art or creativity works.
Modern comics suffer from this too. Wish I saw colour and lighting designed more often for narrative & visual effect rather than trying to emulate reality. Every visual medium is absolutely littered with choices to be made. Emulating reality takes a vast swathe of them away.
I think the worst trend in modern movies is this obsession with naturalistic lighting. Lighting is like sound design, itโs not meant to be realistic.

New year, new dreams - we just bought what is likely to be our home for quite some time. It's going to take some work and some getting used to. I've always lived in big bustling cities but I've always wanted a place with trees/woods in the back.
Happy Holidays to you all! <3
ICYMI: Shared yesterday the covers to Detective Comics 1071 from
@dccomics
on my newsletter ! Great to see the enthusiastic response from everyone. Now sharing the covers below!

Announcement! Deep Sea Horror Aquaman from Christian Ward and me over at
@DCComics
Black Label. I have had absurd amounts of fun making this book. Preview within!
People are debating Rorschach again-- and my only thought is that the fact that a character named Rorschach is now the litmus test for readers grappling with heroism/humanism is such a badass writing move. Intentional or not-- doubt it will ever be topped.
There was such stellar design work on the Batman Animated series. The title/credit backdrops are gorgeous works by themselves. Was doing some research... digressed into these.
Announced! The Vigil is part of
@dccomics
We Are Legends imprint. Featuring a cast of Indian Superheroes? Metahumans? whose remit is to save us all from the many strange, dangerous and weird ideas we are not yet ready for.

I wrote 50 issues of comics in '22 (including unreleased material). Worked on game n TV stuff. 4 overseas conventions. A 1 year old at home and my father passed in the second half of the year.
I'm going to do less work, more life & more creatively interesting stuff this year.
Read all things. Good, bad, controversial work & authors. Let no one deny you your fuel. But keep to your own compass, find your own north. I'm tired of people (especially POC creators) being told not to read formative work. I read Joseph Conrad, Lovecraft. I turned out Okay.
World, may I present to you, your new Swamp Thing-- The Swamp Thing
#1
out on March 2nd ๐ Solicitation below. I'm proud to be writing what I think is the first Indian lead on a
@DCComics
series. <3 Solicitation below.
The Swamp Thing
#13
gets an AAPI heritage month Variant as part of

@an_anandrk
- just look at this gorgeousness. Thanks to
@jesswchen
and
@Ben_Meares
for making this happen!
So with that Swamp Thing Season
#2
news out, and with Issue
#10
on FOC, I figure it's a good time to drop this utterly stunning cover for Issue 10 from the truly fantastic Brian Bolland.
Much <3 and thank you everyone for reading, supporting and shouting out about our book!
@therightram
@THEDrPrepperMD
What is the difference? If you didnโt know it was AI? Youโd say oh I see Allred and Bolland here for the Batman panels. But I wouldnโt say they were traced or exact. The differences are clear. So in process itโs different but the results are the same.
Because DC comics new solicitations are out and Gotham Nocturne is back post Knight Terrors with Tea 1075, look at this gorgeous gorgeous cover from
@cagle_evan
I made some comics in 2021. I had an absolute blast making them. Thank you to everyone who worked on these books with me. And Much <3 to everyone who read them and talked about them and enjoyed them. Now, I will make some comics in 2022.
Iโve got news! I am now writing Justice League Dark, starting with issue
#20
- this next arc is Co-plotted with
@JamesTheFourth
and art by
@KyleHotz
- welcome to the creeping dread. Strap in <3
They don't get assigned :) - I stalk the mean streets of instagram and the dark alleys of online art-portfolios to find people to work with.
I try to work with people who make me want to be better at what I do! I found Evan's work through his Golgotha illustration.
A writer looking to get into comics showed me a paper that said new creators felt like comics are not a welcoming place / gatekeeper-y and asked my opinion.
I've had experiences at absolute extreme ends of the spectrum.
Welcome to the belief caused by the age of the eternal performer. Everything creative has to be targeted for consumption, otherwise starvation!
For ages, art has been motivated by the artistโs interests and found commercial success because it is interesting. That hasnโt changed.
Welcome to the belief caused the stereotype of the starving artist.
What you want to write is irrelevant. You write what people want. If you don't, you starve.
This is how art, creativity, business and life. Works.
Mike shared this on his account and all I can say is Mike Perkins,
@SpicerColor
and
@adityab
have absolutely knocked this next story out of the park. Cannot wait for you all to see it. Out from
@dccomics
next week.
RIP, John Paul Leon <3 Collaborating w him was a highlight. We emailed a few times afterwards. Nothing but kindness and humility from an artist whose work defined my taste in comics. Treasure the fact that I got to work w him twice. <3 My condolences to his family and friends.
BATMAN: OUTLAW begins with Detective Comics
