As a kid, my reading was so restricted and monitored (so I wouldn't be "corrupted by the world") that I had to steal library books so they wouldn't show on my Checked Out record. Kids need access to material that helps them grow... esp. when they're deliberately kept from it.

If a story is boring, complicate the characters. If everyone’s at least a little messy (preferably a lot imo), they’ll move in interesting, unexpected ways.
