Students have created an anti-war encampment at UNC pushing for divestment. Last time this happened was 1986, protesting apartheid South Africa. The Chancellor then allowed the camp to stay for two weeks.

Police should not be harming or intimidating peaceful student protestors at any campus. Sending police to intervene in a protest or clear an encampment is an escalation that reduces safety for all involved. It happened here and is happening elsewhere. It's wrong.

I remember wanting to attend BOG meetings as @GPSGatUNC president and an exec board member of UNC Association of Student Governments and being given the run around about a "sign up" requirement to attend (that no one would email back about). Very public!

NEW: UNC-Chapel Hill students say they were kept out of not only the meeting room at today’s Board of Governors meeting on DEI, but also not allowed to enter the building where the meeting was held. System says the room was full.

The Chapel Hill Town Council is considering a $50 million bond this year that does NOT require a tax increase. People will be looking for something to vote FOR in 2024, and I can't think of many things more appealing than affordable housing and improved connectivity!
