Think vaccines don't work? Pfizer is applying for EUA for their antiviral, Paxlovid, *only* for unvaccinated people. Why? Hospitalization is such a rare outcome in vaccinated it was impossible to power the study adequately to show benefit in the vaccinated. Think about that.

Had Bivalent BA1 booster yesterday. Side effects suck, similar to #2 and #3 , worse than my actual COVID ( though shorter ). I chose this, no need for sympathy, but it’s a reminder of why boosters should not be mandated. I doubt I’m doing this every year.

Um, didn’t see this coming. (and I don’t believe it myself) Michael Osterholm, director of the University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Diseases Research and Policy, told STAT he has “really been impressed by the relative lack of severe illness” seen with Omicron so far.

Today is the one-year anniversary of Omicron’s appearance on the world stage. Omicron eventually effectively ended the pandemic, mostly by making it obvious all NPIs were useless, and..by infecting nearly everyone, vaccinated, vaccine holdouts…hermits This is how pandemics end.

There is no exit in Ontario. Cases will eventually drop as enough people get Omicron and weather gets warmer. But vaccination does not prevent infection or transmission and infection derived immunity will wane in 6 months. By October 2022 we are right back here again.

The message that “vaccines don’t stop transmission” is very damaging to public health. You can’t transmit if not infected and you are at least 10x less likely to be infected if vaccinated; if infected, your viral load appears to drop twice as fast as in unvaccinated people.
