Great news! We’re all set to complete the purchase of the Arran Mall and the former Hourstons building on Ayr High Street, this week. This exciting development, marks an important milestone as we work to transform the site into a fantastic new leisure hub.

The works to refurbish and remodel the old Ayr Academy into a new home for Ayr Grammar School and the Archive/Registration Centre are now complete. The building also provides a home for a new Early Years Centre and community facilities!

Troon the small town with the big heart (Troon Easter Egg Hunt) have donated over 300 Easter Eggs to be included in food boxes being distributed to children entitled to Free School Meals within the Troon and surrounding areas. Eggs will be included in next week’s distribution.
Rozelle Park in Ayr is home to a series of Remembrance sculptures. Professional wood carvers brought the park to life in 2018 with this detailed collection of art to mark the centenary of the First World War.

The Scottish Government have now confirmed schools will reopen full time for all pupils in August. In South Ayrshire schools will reopen on Wednesday 12 August, but in most schools the first three days will be a phased return.

Great news! Our beaches at Girvan, Maidens, Prestwick and Troon have just received a prestigious Scotland’s Beach Award!
Keep Scotland Beautiful has recognised the beaches for their high standard of amenities, maintenance, biodiversity and cleanliness.
The Council also has teams on site supporting emergency repairs where possible for those affected.
The Council works under the direction of emergency services in these circumstances and stands ready to support our communities in any way we can. (2/2)

The demolition of Burns House in Ayr will begin shortly.

Congratulations to teacher Amanda Pickard who won the coveted ‘Digital Innovator of the Year’ award at the recent Scottish Education Awards. Amanda uses digital technology to make learning more engaging and inclusive across South Ayrshire.
Local resident, Ron Wilson, aged 96, was stationed in Burma in 1943 with the Royal Marines, spending 2 years fighting within enemy territory. After the bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Ron stayed in the Far East until August 1946 before returning home.
