Now that the UK Govtโ€™s into breaching just-agreed treaties โ€˜in a limited & specific wayโ€™, I guess theyโ€™ll be OK with the Scottish Govt ditching one wee clause in a treaty thatโ€™s been gathering dust for 300-plus years - the clause having to do with Scotland & England being united

When this image was taken, mum (62) knew she would never see the green hills of Portland or her family overseas again. Her illness had seen to that. At this point, mum was wrestling with not being able to do what she loved, nursing. Now look in her eyes + tell me what you see.

This is Titchfield High Schoolย inย Port Antonio,ย Jamaica. Established in 1786, it is the fifth-oldest high school in the country. My mum + most of my family attended it. My mum read Latin at Tichfield. That wasn't an option at the high school she attended on arrival in the UK.

Today is 16 July. It's been 10 years since my late mum (pictured) passed. She would now be 72. As a die-hard tennis fan, she would have enjoyed the Wimbledon men's final as was her custom. Last night, I dreamt I gave her a huge hug of love + gratitude. It warmed my heart.

I can't recommend this book enough. Every home should have a copy. Too often in the larger culture, we see images of Black people in attitudes of despair, pain, or brutal isolation. As We Rise gently refuses that. #photography

You may look at this as a simple haircare moment. Truth is, it goes way deeper. This is four or five hours of work by mum. It's the passing on of knowledge that will be fully appreciated in adulthood. It is cries of agony caused my the comb navigates a tight knot of hair.

I'm still tired after Friday when another elder was laid to rest. There's been six funerals in the space of two weeks. The feeling of loss weighs heavy on some minds. I reflect on this moment + recognise that I should capture more moments like these.

This is my late mum. If memory serves me well then she was late 20s to early 30s when these images were taken. Whenever I asked her age she would always say, "As old as my tongue + a little older than my teeth."
