๐ Y'all were waiting for good news right? Well here it is.
Offer letter has been signed and I officially join the
#DevRel
team at
@digitalocean
as a Senior Developer Advocate. DO is a company I have always wanted to be a part of and now I am! So stoked!
#DeveloperCommunity
๐ I am excited to announce that I am starting a new position as front end developer for a company based out of Arizona in a few weeks. Very excited for the future ahead!
๐ Got a rejection last night that really hurt. I prepped, I was excited, I showed the enthusiasm, I kicked ass in the interview...just to wind up with a rejection. I don't get it. This is a org I have wanted to work for for a long time.
Please stop using words like โeasyโ, โsimpleโ, and โbasicโ. What is easy for you might not be easy for someone else. Being a non-JS dev, things arenโt just EASY for me to pick up as much as YOU think they are.
Surgery was successful. The doctor got all tumor and is confident he got ALL of it. Always a chance that it could be aggressive or invasive but as it stands, itโs gone. Just have to take it day by day and hope everything heals properly.
Ever since I arrived in Denver Iโve been hit with mild depression and looming anxiety. Struggling to do anything with the apartment and when I do, it feels like a battle with overwhelming tasks. Send good vibes and encouragement to help me light a fire and kick some ass.
โYou know that announcement I was talking about last week?
๐ In a couple weeks I start a new role as a Developer Advocate at
@SplitSoftware
.
๐ฅ Incredibly stoked for this opportunity!

Yesterday I had an attendee come up to me a couple hours later after my presentation and tell me, "I now care about accessibility because of you and you're talk." That hit the feels pretty hard. I am glad I can influence and shape the
#DeveloperCommunity
in ways I never imagined.
I ended the year with 22 speaking engagements at conferences which included one workshop, and a handful of meetups. All-in-all I have to say it was an amazing year.

If you ever see me at an event, please don't categorize me as unapproachable cuz I'm a bigger guy with tattoos. Don't judge a book by its cover. Ask around, I am a softee.
Set up is almost complete. Need my pen cup, couple notebooks, posters and conf badges hanging behind it. Also, I have to hook my podcast equipment back up.

I have to say, since I quit smoking....again (it has been over a month), cutting back on pop, and not eating pizza everyday, I can tell a difference. It feels good. I don't seem "as" tired all day now. Unless that is just me lol. But yeah, I do feel better.
โค๏ธ Hey your boy is back on the job market. I literally just got laid off. Looking for yet another developer advocate role on an established team is a plus!
#DevRel
#DeveloperCommunity
๐จ I applied for the DA role at
@vercel
. It would focus around ALL the things I love about the web so that is a plus. I also have experience with various Vercel products so that helps too.
๐๐ผ Let's see what happens shall we?

๐ I just paid off my credit card! It has been sitting maxed out since 2016 and I was almost sued for the amount. If
@shannonresch
never kicked me in the ass to pay it off it would still be sitting there.
Well, I have 2nd and 3rd interviews coming up. One place I interviewed with and was stoked about, requested referrals after the 4th and final interview. That has to be a good sign right? Why go through the trouble if they didn't want me to join the team? Fingers crossed.
๐ I have been at
@digitalocean
just over two months. It's been a long time since I've felt like I've made an impact at an organization or that I was valued. Thanks to some of my awesome team for believing in the vision and me!

I went to sit down on my plane and a dad wanted to sit with his son so he gave me his seat in first class. I delivered an amazing talk, won an Amazon gift card, now Iโm in first class. Woohoo! โจ
๐ Here is the start of the design for my site. Nothing fancy, very clean. Just the nav and hero section so far. I know design, I have always been a hybrid "designoper". A term coined by a friend of mine back in Detroit.

I have said this before but I love that my company encourages and WANTS the developers to pair as much as they can. Within an hour me and a team mate solved 3-4 problems in our projects. At my last company it was looked at as lost productivity and that is a shitty mindset.
It sucks letting everyone know this, but as it stands, I am going to commit to my speaking engagements until June, but after that, for the unforeseen future I will no longer be speaking at the rate I have been.
Next week starts my fully remote job, where I don't have to leave to do anything but eat if I so choose. Working remote is going to be fun and a challenge, but I am up for it.
