The upcoming #AnthonyBourdain documentary uses AI to recreate the late chef's voice. Now, people are slamming both the ethics and eeriness of that decision

Dutch court rules that an algorithm used by the government to identify welfare fraud violates human rights. "“digital welfare states” ... amount to spying on the poor, breaching privacy and human rights norms and unfairly penalising the most vulnerable."

Or, do I draw a line in the sand and refuse to acknolwedge the gate keepers of the major media outlets who seem to think that my work is good enough, but my name and my face aren't? Knowing full well that by doing so, I become yet another person whose work is erased over time 8/

If you’re a manager at Twitter, now’s the time to reflect on your values as an individual and determine who it is you’re here for.

So this @HumaneTech_ event just got offensive (and grammatically incorrect). @tristanharris just said “a population the size of Islam” is being radicalized by social media videos. Twice. Thanks for tagging your own biases and ignorance.

Tbh when I first moved to the bay I was perplexed as to why people thought coding was the hard part of data science. It’s not. It’s the social science part of data science that stumps people: operationalizing concepts, deciphering variable interdependence, understanding impact.

Some people mistake kindness for weakness, when in reality most kind people are so much stronger than people who are petty and mean.

Reposting with real talk. Underpinning all this is the worship of “hard” sciences above all. You know what? Design is hard. Social sciences are hard. Related is that these are considered feminine fields and they become “validated” as the masculine fields move in.

Stitch Fix is using something called eigenvector decomposition, a concept from quantum mechanics, to tease apart the overlapping “notes” in an individual’s style. Using physics, the team can better understand the complexities of the clients’ style minds.
