Airliner propulsion is counterintuitive. ~80% of thrust is via bypass air, or “cold” air sucked backwards by huge fans — not “hot” air from the combustion chamber itself. the engine is instead used to spin fans/compressors connected to the shaft, not produce thrust directly.
