I didn't reach my athletic peak until I was 43.
I didn't write my first book until I was 44.
I didn't start my podcast until I was 45.
At 30, I thought my life was over.
At 52 I know it's just beginning.

3 Key Lessons On Age & Fitness from a 55 year old athlete. THREAD 1/8:
1. Train Where You Are: it’s hard to resist comparing your current self to your fittest self. Overcoming this urge is key.
STOP HACKING YOUR LIFE. Here’s a hot take: doing anything well is fucking hard. Mastery? Only a rare few are willing to tolerate what that ordeal requires. THREAD. 1/9
What if all those terrible stories you tell yourself about yourself aren’t true? What if the limits you self impose on your capabilities are a lie? Consider the possibility. Then modify your behavior accordingly.
If you’re feeling down or looping negative self-talk or just indulging in self-obsession, reach out to someone less fortunate. Someone who could use a hand. Give that person your full attention. Service breaks the spell. Every time.
Ultrarunning legend Aleksandr Sorokin has just smashed his own record (192.252 miles) of distance covered in 24 hours of running 🔥🇱🇹
The Lithuanian has just covered 318.8km / 198.1 miles (unofficial) – 7:15/mile and 4:30/km pace...over a day 🤯
Best thing about New Year’s Day is waking up stone cold sober. Extremely grateful to have not experienced a 1/1 hangover since ‘97. CLARITY is the jam. 1/8
7 years, 70+ million downloads. Sincere gratitude to everyone who has graced me with your attention. And to my guests for bringing their best - I don’t take any of it for granted. You’ve changed my life - and I hope I improved yours just a little. Happy holidays everyone✌🏼🌱
What’s most important? Is it talent, passion, intensity or purpose? I would say purpose, because it’s the foundation of consistency. And consistency — as unsexy as it may be — differentiates success from failure and ultimately good from great.

Reminder (to myself as well): most people on planet Earth live their lives blithely unaware of all the drama and vitriol that transpires on this platform. Twitter is not real life. Go outside.
To end, It’s an exciting time to be alive as an older athlete. Everywhere I look I see age & capability barriers being broken in spectacular fashion.
I believe we have only begun to tap what is truly possible. And I’m here for all of it.
Hope this thread was helpful✌🏼🌱

It’s easy to show up when it’s fun. It’s how you behave in the face of resistance that reveals character. Who do you want to be? How badly? It’s not about motivation - it’s about living deliberately.

The gov't plot isn't
#MeatlessMonday
. It's protecting a vile & outdated industry.
#MeatlessMonday
is just another example of government trying to tell people what’s nutritious. The thought of taking a protein like beef out of the menu is just crazy.
Mental health may not be everything, but it's close. My only hope is that recent events provoke less stigma, more conversation, greater understanding, and better education, diagnosis & treatment for the many millions that suffer silently.
The outpouring of love and support for

in the wake of publishing this episode has been truly amazing, affirming my belief in the goodness of humanity. I live for conversations like this. It’s the why behind my everything.

We evacuated Malibu safely (animals with us) but many still struggling to escape the chaos. The force and destruction is hard to describe. I believe our home stands (winds in our favor) but monitoring closely. Heart with those in it’s wide and quickly moving path.
What is unfolding is a horrifying, appalling, disgusting and shameful debacle. So sad and yet predictable. Also more embarrassing than anything imaginable.
450 miles - 4 and a half days - 108 loops of Laz's backyard. 108 decisions to start. Countless opportunities to quit. At least twice, blood was pouring from his nose. But, in this paradoxical endurance crucible, he is the only one who didn't reach his limit. BIG'S

So beautiful & heartwarming to see the outpouring of love & support for the charming & super inspiring Mike Fremont. It was an honor to spend time with him. ICYMI full episode here:
Meanwhile here he is gettin’ after it! At 100! Have a great day everyone!
Embrace the long view. Focus, clarity, hard work, persistence, patience and consistency are modern day superpowers that pave the road to purpose, mastery, and ultimately a legacy that withstands the pressure of time.
How many never act their dreams because they want to know exactly where it will lead before they start? This is fear, loud and clear. Just begin -- and the path will slowly reveal itself.

Inspiration is fine. But it's overrated and temporal -- tissue in the flame. Purpose is the slow burn sustainable fuel source that drives real success. Find it.
Like Amelia, I too am getting a decent amount of:
"stick to health & fitness"
"stay in your lane"
"you're embarrassing yourself"
"you've lost my respect"
But like
@jasongay
points out in his
@WSJ
piece below, these are pleas to ignore an ugly truth.
Let's not do that.
As an athlete, I’ve gotten a fair amount of “stay in your lane” the past few days.
First, I don’t have a lane. Second, if I do, I’m committed to widening it. Third, “staying in our lane” is part of the problem.
Thanks for all the well wishes. We are safe. I have spoken with many friends who lost their homes. No credible intel yet on the status of ours. But I am confident of one thing: home isn't a place. It's a community of people you love. 1/
I'll end by saying I'm grateful and excited to give myself this gift, which I fully appreciate is a great privilege and something I don't take lightly or for granted. Ok well thanks for reading this & I'll keep you posted.✌🏽🌱- Rich END/

THREAD: Gratitude Is A Practice.
I am not an innately grateful person.
My default settings are broken.
Left to my own devices, I quickly devolve.
The result is a marinade of selfishness. Resentment. Self-pity. And ultimately, anger. 1/
Did I mention we're building a new studio? Taking the podcast game next level. Lots of work remains but it's progressing. Hoping to be operational by end of 2020 -- keep ya posted✌🏽🌱
Recovery is fucking hard. It’s messy. It takes courage to own that. Even more to share it. But your transparency is going to help so many — a lifeline for those caught in this cycle. RESPECT.
This is, hands down, the most important thing I've ever written.
For all those who have come before me in speaking about this, thank you.
You have given me strength and hope.
