I’m absolutely shocked but delighted to confirm I got an MBE in the New Years Honours List. First thought was with mum and dad and wishing they could witness this. Very proud Teessider. Still can’t quite believe it.

Does anyone hate the Germans? Really? I’ve only had the pleasure of one visit - a few days in and around Frankfurt- and I loved it and them. The Germans felt like us - but classier. We went to many bars and restaurants and were treat so well. I admire Germany. More than ever now.

Ella was put to sleep this morning. She probably had cancer but deteriorated this morning before the biopsy results came back. She was only 6 and was the light of my life. I am broken and now incomplete. She was my shadow. She had a good though short life. She was so loved.

In 1971 a group of 11 year olds met on their first day at Sir William Turners in Redcar. 5 became lifelong friends and tonight - 50 years later- we’re meeting up for drinks, curry and a juvenile daft laugh in Guisborough. We haven’t seen each other for 2 years. I cannot wait.

We’re having a cheeky glass of Prosecco. This week we paid off the mortgage. Started in 1983 with endowments (don’t ask). We’ve lived in Marske, Marton, Nuneaton, Whickham and Stokesley. Took us to 62 but finally got there. Next move - downsizing to either Saltburn or Newcastle.

This brought my dad - George- to Redcar from Liverpool. An immigrant. He met a barmaid- my mum Olive- at the Red Lion. A single mum. Who then got cancer. They married - really quickly - in case Olive died and I was an orphan. She recovered. That’s what this means to me.

He died 25 years ago today – he was only 70. Cigarettes did for him. My only regret being I didn’t tell him what I thought of him when he was alive. What a hero he was to me. And I'll always be grateful. If you love your parents please tell them �� don’t be me. RIP George. Dad.

Thanks for all the lovely messages. Liam has a bump like an egg on his head but seems to be OK. He’s very tired - he had two seizures. The ambulance crew were brilliant. The worry is always where he has his seizures - we’ve generally been lucky. Bless you all

I need to be more like my son Liam. Just had a call from his carers - and he remains happy and content. He lives in the moment. In today. He doesn’t think about tomorrow, next week or next month. He’s happy now and that’s all that matters. I must stop thinking about the future.
