Y’all. I just wanna say that it’s really hard to not fall into the trap of punitive grading because the kids are rowdy. It is. And it’s really hard to wipe off the emotional vomit students sometimes spew in order to still care for them. Tomorrow’s a new day.

As the school year ended, I’m reminding myself I was enough this school year. My teaching was enough, my methods were enough, my materials were enough. It can be easy to have negative self-talk/reflection when looking at others’ tweets, but I know I was the best for my kids. 🧵

My high school classes officially go online today, but within minutes of my principal sending out the codes for the faculty’s Google Classroom last night, I had students signing up and completing work. It made me tear up.

Perhaps instead of touting that remote learning didn’t work so we need to reopen schools, we should invest in strengthening and improving broadband access for students so they can have a better chance at having a quality remote learning experience.

My oldest child, with fair skin and hazel eyes, asked me to come to his school to talk about Puerto Rico and speak to him in Spanish because his school friends don’t think he’s “Latino enough.” 😔 And that just broke my heart because he’s so proud of his identity!

My 10 & 11 year old boys have backed me into a language corner by asking me how to say “seal” in French. Bound by the Hippocratic Oath for Educators (the Socratic Oath?) I told them and they think it is the most hilarious thing! 🦭 🦭

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but since there are so many resources out there for teachers (and parents), it’s OK if you’re not using everything. Pick something that works well for you rather than feeling like you have to use everything, and have fun with it.

If I had to do it all over again, I would’ve taught my students more vos and less vosotros for they “might encounter”. Outside of living in Spain, I’ve encountered more people in my day-to-day who use vos.
