@Ofstednews
I am seeing these 👇🏻 popping up on Twitter. If you produce these I think, for fairness, they need to be made available to all schools immediately.
@NAHTnews
Teachers do not want to be on strike today but they are making a stand against the crisis in education for the sake of children of this country present and future.
@NEUnion
@NAHTnews
Why are we short of teachers? Could it be due to poor pay & high workload? If we are going to have an excellent education system we have to recruit & retain good people in schools.
@NAHTnews
From what I’m hearing from across the profession,
@educationgovuk
have seriously miscalculated the reaction to their school pay and funding offer!
@NAHTnews
@rob_kelsall
@Ofstednews
In my opinion, if they are going to drop a school from Outstanding to SM they should have a risk assessment and support in place for the school’s leadership. Until they have a plan and resources in place for doing that they should pause all inspections.
“[There is] a culture of fear surrounding inspections”
After our interview with Ofsted boss Amanda Spielman, viewers got in touch with some of their experiences of inspections.

I 100% support what
@NEUnion
members are doing today. As a school leader, I cannot do my job without great teachers. We need better pay for all staff working in schools or we won’t recruit & retain the people we need.
@NAHTnews
SATs play a key role in helping to identify pupils’ strengths or where they may have fallen behind as they head to secondary school.
Here's everything parents need to know about SATs, including how we develop the tests and why they're important ⬇️

are democratic organisations representing thousands of public servants, hard working people who just want a fair pay deal and better funding for the schools that all our children attend. They are also not easily fooled or intimidated.
'Society asks a great deal of those who teach our children. It seems reasonable that we should listen when they tell us, in different ways, that enough is enough.'
@NAHTnews
If the Government does not meet with teachers elected union representatives soon, and solve the R & R crisis, then we will start to run out of teachers for all subjects and phases! Without teachers, any Gov ambitions for education are 'difficult'.
@NAHTnews
@NAHTnews
@tes
@PaulWhiteman6
I think the solution to this is very simple. Significantly increase funding for schools and give school leaders the freedom to spend it as they see best to benefit the pupils in their care.
@NAHTnews
I’m at the

👇🏻 In my opinion, if
@Ofstednews
are going to drop a school’s grade they should have a risk assessment and support in place for the school’s leadership. Until they have a plan and resources in place for doing that they should pause all inspections.

@branwenjeffreys
@BBCr4today

The degradation of the services that used to support children and families are part of the reason why pupil attendance is poor. Schools are trying to fill the gap but are not funded to do this work.

teaching is a wonderful job BUT it now cannot compete against many other careers that offer better pay & conditions. Unless you improve teacher pay & conditions we will not retain and recruit the people we need to be teachers. It is that simple.
I've just been told that I will be the new chair of NAHT's Membership Services Committee. I'm proud and excited (plus a little bit nervous) to take on this important role!

@NAHTDevon
If this 👇🏻 is correct and is awarded it must be fully funded or it will lead to huge cuts in other areas of school budgets.
@NAHTnews
members, we need a big ‘yes’ vote in our ballot so we have the industrial power to demand the funding that would be needed.
Exclusive: The teacher pay review body has recommended to ministers a 6.5% increase in pay for 2023/24
That’s significantly higher than the DfE’s offer to the unions and way above the Treasury’s ceiling
Yet another major headache for Rishi Sunak
At the time this policy was introduced school leaders said there was not money in schools to contribute to the costs and it was too restrictive in how it could be used. Moral - listen to school leaders when they speak.
@NAHTnews
This year’s Year 6 pupils were in Year 3 then 4 during the pandemic. These are vital years in a child’s education and they were severely disrupted but in some parts of the country more than others! To have league tables this year is perverse.
@NAHTnews
School leaders have warned that the return of primary school performance tables for KS2 Sats is “wrong” and should be delayed to allow schools to manage the post-Covid recovery of pupils without high-stakes accountability “looming over them”
@branwenjeffreys
@educationgovuk
That funding was to avert a crisis not fund a pay rise! If that money is used to fund the pay rise we are back to a crisis! We need a decent FUNDED pay offer for teachers & school leaders.
@NAHTnews
‘schools with higher numbers of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), will generally have more members of support staff, so are likely to have less headroom, if they have to fund these increases without extra money’.
@NAHTnews
While the figures of the pay offer for teachers have been described as “inadequate”, heads have also warned a lack of new money could force schools to make more cuts
So is it affordable for schools?

@NAHTnews
@vicgoddard
Sadly
@vicgoddard
we have been left with no option, this Government clearly does not value the staff in schools and the impact that we have on the lives of children. We have to stand up for education.
@amanda_spielman
I don’t know if this reporting misrepresents what you were trying to say but if it was as reported you really should consider how little use your organisation has been over the last 19 months before criticising state schools!

@NAHTnews
members, check your e-mail inboxes! The chance to make your opinion heard is NOW! I voted to REJECT the pay offer and to have a BALLOT for industrial action.
@rob_kelsall
This is deeply patronising to school leaders, we already look for every possible way to save money so that the maximum amount is spent on pupils. It has also be tried before by Lord Agnew's 'cost cutting advisers' to little avail.

at the moment I don't know what my school's staffing costs will be from September until March. I can just about manage a 3% teachers' pay rise, but if it is above that (and it should be) it needs to be funded or cuts will fall elsewhere!
@NAHTnews
Poverty is the biggest barrier to children’s success at school. Poverty is increasing. Without addressing poverty and inequality everything else we do in education is hamstrung.
@NAHTnews
Politicians speak about launching wars on low literacy & numeracy. Increasing hardship for pupils post pandemic will only make that battle harder. Never has it been more important to confront one of our greatest education challenges. My
@SchoolsWeek
comment on our new research ⬇️
@SchoolsWeek
The ‘day-to-day’ work of teachers is the thousands of interactions they have with pupils. In class support from other skilled staff transforms a teacher’s workload. AI planning may be useful, but not transformative. Fund schools properly!

this is what really grinds my gears! Some schools (like mine and yours) are doing the best they possibly can for children who should be in more suitable settings.
Do you have a clue of the range of SEND in some mainstream schools due to the lack of places available in special schools Do you have a clue at the range of challenges some schools are dealing with. From this blog the answer is no.

I think there is a lot of evidence from my experience that backs this up! The pandemic has changed working lives and attitudes towards sickness.
DfE: ‘two-thirds of teachers who started teaching five years ago are still teaching.’ OR a third of teachers leave teaching in their first five years! We need action from DfE on this unsustainable attrition rate.
