Just as we near the time of the Christmas bombing, let me remind you that it was Henry Kissinger who advised President Richard Nixon to bomb Hanoi in 1972 to make the North Vietnamese "negotiate seriously". 2,400 Vietnamese lost their lives then.

Everybody knows the Vietnamese dress 'ao dai' but here's one of the first designs, called the 'Le Mur ao dai' after the name of the designer - Nguyen Cat Tuong (Tường means le mur in French and the wall in English 🧐) The model was Vu Thi Hoa Van and the photo was taken in 1938.

A few things many ppl don’t know about the Sino-Vietnam border war: - there were actually 2 wars, 1st one in 1979 and 2nd in Apr 1984 - Chinese troops withdraw on 18/3/1979 but continued shelling VN targets and encroaching on border areas - the border war only ended in Oct 1989

Nguyen Van Minh, a Vietnamese-Ukrainian soldier, was killed in action on 26 May in Donbass. He was 28. His family resides in Kharkiv and Minh served in the Ukrainian army at the rank of senior lieutenant and platoon leader. Minh’s mother is from Hai Duong, near Hanoi.

Google is being accused of "erasing" the Vietnam flag on the Spratly Island that Vietnam occupies in the South China Sea. In the 1st pic taken in May 2020 the red flag, made of ceramics, was visible but in the latest available image (2nd pic) it was painted white. I wonder why🤔

Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, the wife of Nguyen Van Thieu, former president of the Republic of #Vietnam (1967-1975), has died in Southern California aged 90. Mr Thieu died in 2001. She was the founder and patron of Vi Dan hospital (now Thong Nhat hospital) in Saigon. RIP.

In a Facebook post, a Singaporean man accused immigration staff at Hanoi Airport of asking for a bribe when he was trying to leave Vietnam. The man gave in and paid 500K VND ($21). His post was shared 6.2K times in 2 days. I hope there will be a thorough investigation into this.

Today marks 50 years since Ho Chi Minh passed away. Here’s an interesting photo of him playing pool. 2/9 is also #Vietnam ’s National Day. Not may people know but as of 20 Oct it will be the longest serving #communist regime in the world, surpassing the Soviet Union (27,076 days).
