The Cincinnati Reds were able to commit resources and roster spots for 3 catchers, Luke Weaver, and Mike Minor - to name a few.
But they couldn’t figure out how to keep their heart, soul, and face of the franchise.
You cannot convince me, no matter what the platoon splits say, that Newman, Senzel, and Maile are better options in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game than Fraley, Votto, and Benson.
I’m sorry.
Joey Votto’s Reds career ends with a series where Nick Martini started over him twice.
I hope the free agent class doesn’t notice how this team treats their stars.
It's good to be Will Benson right now.
He's playing incredible baseball and is celebrating his first Father's Day tomorrow with his wife and young son.

@Reds
The speed with which I went from “trade Castillo because they stink” to “keep Castillo because I don’t want them to stink” has given me severe whiplash.
My attempt:
1.India - LF
2.McLain - 2B
3.Votto - 1B
4.CES - DH
5.EDLC - SS
6.Steer - 3B
7.Stephenson - C
8.Fraley - RF
9.Friedl - CF
With heavy doses of Senzel, Hopkins, and Barrero until we know if they’ve got the juice.
Reds Twitter is wild. Not sure why this is a hot take, but it’s okay to want to root for a winner.
I’m 37 years old. This team had missed the playoffs 31 of those years. I’m excited as hell and oddly optimistic for this season, but come on people. All of y’all deserve better.
Jose Barrero has put together a nice little slash line in Louisville since being sent down.
Do y’all know of any other 25 year olds in the org. that turned it around after an early demotion??
There are a lot of David Bell haters out there. But even y’all gotta admit:
No one, and I mean no one, gives their hottest hitter a day off like David Bell.
"I want to play again...at least one more year." -Joey Votto.
@dpshow
Votto added that he wants to play for the Reds, but he would consider playing elsewhere if they want to move on.
Prospects are crazy. It’s like, you wait all this time as they’re developing then 6 years later you hope one of them is almost as good as Luis Castillo.
Imagine if Wembanyama was also a lockdown defender and one of the fastest guys in the league - on top of all the other high level tools he has.
Then he’d be Elly De La Cruz.
Need to dive into it more, but my initial reaction to the Montas signing is super positive. Definite risks but thems the breaks.
And if it works out, he’s a top half rotation arm that, worst case, could net a deadline return or compensatory draft pick.
Reds got better today.
Right-hander Nick Martinez and the Cincinnati Reds are in agreement on a two-year, $26 million contract that includes an opt-out after the first year, sources tell ESPN. Martinez, 33, opted out of the last two years and $16 million of his deal with San Diego to reach free agency.

GM Nick Krall agreed that starting pitching will be a potential priority ahead of the trade deadline.
When asked if the club has the financial tools to a ‘buyer’ at the deadline?
Krall: “I have flexibility.”
@WLWT
I LOVE this Reds team. But MIL has their number and the Cubs are hotter than the sun with the best run differential in the Central.
The Reds need to get better before the deadline.
Baseball is the only profession where you can do your job absolutely perfectly and some old dude standing behind the situation can say “lol no” and it’s rendered useless
The problem is that “rebuild” implies a strategy. A series of direct, intentional moves to better position the club for the future. This isn’t a rebuild. Wade Miley isn’t given away for literally nothing in a rebuild.
The
@LockedOnReds
studs were discussing a potential Marte to RF move. I’ve been clamoring for CES to be out there but Marte in right might give the Reds their most potent lineup. Im intrigued.
What do y’all think?
Dear whoever in Reds land that’s making the actual baseball decisions these days,
Sign Hunter Greene and Nick Lodolo to a deal similar to what Atlanta just gave Spencer Strider. Give us a reason to be happy. We deserve it.
Sincerely,
An exhausted fan.
The “it’s almost spring training”optimist in me hates this.
I had convinced myself that 1 above average veteran starter gives the club a chance to have an elite pitching staff and back door their way into contention.
