As a meta-reviewer, I recently read a v. positive review for a paper that all reviewers acknowledged as sound and quite good. The overall score given was 1.5, which is as low as you can get. This is worse than unlucky. It is carelessness. I actually see this often. @ReviewAcl

So this robotics thing for Grades R to 3. It's a distraction and we should not stand for it. We know how bar our math and reading is. Why are we not working more on fixing this. You can't do AI, ML Robotics etc. Without strong math. This is from someone who would love .....

@strubell @cocoweixu @SaifMMohammad @jurafsky I would rephrase this observation: perhaps the drop in citations correlates with the increased use of methods from an overlapping field with NLP (machine learning) that was much more toxic for women, and therefore had great trouble in retaining female brains.
