A vicious, vile and soulless attack on Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. Is it any wonder that she was terrified to come forward, and that other sexual assault survivors are as well? She is a remarkable profile in courage. He is a profile in cowardice.
Fox is right to be concerned. Very concerned. This could be a legal bloodbath. Discovery will undoubtedly show that its personnel were putting out falsely comforting information it knew to be false and misleading in order to sync up with WH messaging.
"...I've been talking to Fox insiders over the last few days, there's a real concern inside the network that their early downplaying of the coronavirus actually exposes Fox News to potential legal action by viewers who maybe were misled. " —

Memo to all career DOJ employees
This is not what you signed up for. The four prosecutors who bailed on the Stone case have shown the way. Report all instances of improper political influence and other misdeeds to the DOJ IG, who is required to protect your identity.
We will not be responding to each childish, defamatory, disgusting &
false tweet by the President. The whole truth will come out in due
course. But the tweets confirm that he has corrupted the entire
process that led to Mr. McCabe’s termination and has rendered it
illegitimate.
Trump knew something we didn't when he started balking at the peaceful transfer of power. If he loses the election, he faces federal and state prosecution for bank fraud, tax fraud, wire fraud, and mail fraud, as does his entire family. No OLC memo will spare him.
I have been in and around DOJ since 1983. I have never seen a case dropped after someone has pled guilty and the underlying facts demonstrate beyond any shadow of a doubt he is guilty. This is simply a pardon by another name. A black day in DOJ history.
Unless there are portions of the tape that somehow negate criminal intent, "I just want to find 11,780 votes" and his threats against Raffensperger and his counsel violate 52 U.S. Code § 20511. His best defense would be insanity.
I have been involved in DOJ and FBI disciplinary matters since 1994. I have never before seen the type of rush to judgment – and rush to summary punishment – that we have witnessed in the case of Andy McCabe:
Please spare us the whining, the handwringing and the empty words. You are not a pundit or a sideline reporter. You are a US Senator. You have done NOTHING to stop the madness. You have facilitated it. Own it.
DOJ just issued the McCabe report - which is a total disaster. He LIED! LIED! LIED! McCabe was totally controlled by Comey - McCabe is Comey!! No collusion, all made up by this den of thieves and lowlifes!
By law, firing an IG requires the President to provide a reason. That means a valid reason. “Loss of confidence” that results from the IG exercising his independence and doing his job is not a valid reason. This requires immediate oversight hearings.
The House impeached Trump on Dec 18. A federal judge didn't authorize Parnas to share his information with the House until Jan 3. Sen. Collins -- we know you'll do the wrong thing in the end but at least get your facts straight so you don't look so dumb.
Susan Collins throws cold water on new Lev Parnas evidence. “I wonder why the House did not put that into the record and it’s only now being revealed.” Told it was just turned over, she says: “well doesn’t that suggest that the House did an incomplete job then?”
@Phil_Mattingly
I have conducted and supervised investigations for 35 years. I ran an investigative agency. The FBI supplemental investigation was not a real investigation. The FBI followed a cramped playbook written by the WH rather than following leads and interviewing all relevant witnesses.
The Bureau of Prisons is part of DOJ. This should prompt an immediate and comprehensive DOJ Inspector General investigation to determine who is responsible.
Yes, after two exhausting days of investigation on the golf course,
@realDonaldTrump
has cracked the case of the Russia bounty payments. It's another hoax perpetrated by those devious hoaxsters at NY Times Books!
Intel just reported to me that they did not find this info credible, and therefore did not report it to me or
@VP
. Possibly another fabricated Russia Hoax, maybe by the Fake News
@nytimesbooks
, wanting to make Republicans look bad!!!
Trump acknowledges he fired IG Atkinson bc he didn’t like how he handled the whistleblower complaint, which led to impeachment. Calls Atkinson a “disgrace” and attacks whistleblower. Trump doesn’t explain why he waited until April to fire him over something that happened in Sept.
Consistency problem: Kavanaugh endorsed polygraphs in a 2016 DC Circuit opinion. Today when asked if he would take one about the assault on Dr. Ford, he labeled them unreliable. What changed?
Reminder: the head of Mueller’s legal team was Michael Dreeben, the most accomplished criminal lawyer in DOJ. He has been in charge of all DOJ criminal appeals for more than 20 years and has argued more than 100 cases in the S Ct. So his legal analysis was trumped by...whom??
Barr makes this clear today: he didn’t simply misinterpret Mueller, he overruled him- “WE DIDN’T AGREE WITH THE LEGAL ANALYSIS..IT DID NOT REFLECT THE VIEWS OF THE DEPARTMENT. IT WAS THE VIEWS OF PARTICULAR LAWYER OR LAWYERS, AND SO WE APPLIED WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS THE RIGHT LAW.”
POTUS can’t admit a mistake of any kind no matter how trivial. Instead of admitting, ignoring, or laughing about his slip of the tongue like a mature adult, he lies about it. It’s instinctive.
Trump called
@Tim_Cook
"Tim Apple," but now he's claiming he didn't. At an RNC confab, "Trump told the donors that he actually said 'Tim Cook Apple" really fast, and the 'Cook' part of the sentence was soft,"
@jonathanvswan
reports. It's on video!
For those of us who worked for Giuliani 30+ years ago, his decline over the past 10 years has been sad and embarrassing to watch. His recent unhinged attacks — on the FBI, Comey, Mueller, the SDNY—have brought him to the lowest point yet.
Now is the time for IGs to shine. They are the only executive branch appointees who are independent and non-political. Note that both the State and Intelligence Community IG are lawyers and former DOJ prosecutors. They know crime when they see it.
This is an extraordinary move for Bob Mueller. He doesn’t do things like this. Apparently he didn’t appreciate having his hard work falsified. What ever made Barr/Rosenstein think that the whitewash would hold, unless they planned to suppress the report??
People who know nothing about law enforcement should not opine on it so glibly. Judges make decisions on warrants — FISA, domestic surveillance, search warrants — on the papers, without a hearing, all the time. That is the norm, not the exception.
A lot of uninformed, speculative, and overheated takes out there. We know 4 things:
1. A judge found probable cause to believe crimes had been committed and relevant evidence was at Mar-a-Lago.
2. The warrant would have been approved at the highest levels of DOJ. 1/2
This is a tragedy. A true patriot driven out of the military because of the vindictive behavior of a corrupt President, aided and abetted by his enablers in Congress. Shameful.
Lt. Col Alexander Vindman, a key witness in Trump's impeachment inquiry, is retiring from the US Army after more than 21 years of military service, after he determined that his future in the armed forces "will forever be limited" due to political retaliation.
@jimsciutto
The official who recommended Conway's firing is a Trump appointee with deep conservative pedigree (Issa, Chaffetz, etc.) The lawless WH will do nothing. She is a lawyer. She should be disbarred in every state in which she still holds a law license.
A week that will live in infamy for the US Senate, permanently diminishing its stature. It treated serious allegations as a nuisance to be sidestepped rather than a call to investigate seriously. It then deemed a perfunctory investigation sufficient when it was not. Appalling.
Well, this Friday Night Massacre didn’t go smoothly. Good for Geoff Berman for not going quietly. There must be something pretty serious brewing in the SDNY.
3. Trump has the search warrant, specifying the crimes being investigated, and the inventory of the items seized.
4. He has chosen not to share those items publicly although he is free to do so.
Multiple House committees should subpoena Dejoy and members of the USPS Board of Governors this weekend for an emergency joint hearing Monday for them to explain themselves.
The idea that Bolton would draft a manuscript that contains “significant amounts of classified information” is ridiculous. He knows what’s classified and what’s not. This is tampering with the pre-publication process to intimidate and achieve political ends.
Durham’s statement is unprecedented and inappropriate. In the 30 year history of the DOJ IG, no prosecutor working on a related matter has ever issued a statement designed to contradict or undermine IG findings. It is grounds for a disciplinary referral.
Trump dead-enders at DOD and OMB are playing a dangerous game--for the country and themselves. It wouldn't take a particularly creative prosecutor to charge them with conspiracy to defraud the US by obstructing the orderly functions of government -- i.e., the transition.
This article is amazing. Scores of witnesses to the highjacking of the U.S.'s Ukraine policy by Giuliani. He is going to need a very good lawyer because he's going to be testifying a fair amount.
This man has a law degree but apparently knows nothing about how trials work and has no interest in the truth. Evidence presented at trials is never limited to what was relied on to bring charges. His view has no basis in history, law, or logic. He made it up.
Worth repeating.
The testimony & evidence considered in a Senate impeachment trial should be the same testimony & evidence the House relied upon when they passed the Articles of Impeachment.
Our job is to vote on what the House passed,not to conduct an open ended inquiry.
My former colleague Andy McCarthy, one of the President's most steady and articulate defenders, is starting to take the measure of the man he has so vigorously defended. POTUS's language reflects the mentality of an at risk mob boss, not of a President.There is a reason for that.
Sir, in mobster lingo, a ‘rat’ is a witness who tells prosecutors real incriminating info. Perhaps a different word? Searches of lawyer’s offices common enough that DOJ has a procedure for them. Here it yielded evidence of crimes you said he should be jailed for. You should stop.
The entire call is astonishing. The bullying, the threats, the insults, the credulous embrace of discredited conspiracy theories. Like a crime boss, Trump occasionally says that all he wants is the truth. But he doesn't -- he wants the win. It's pathetic.
Please proofread and spellcheck your tweets (roll vs. role) (Authotized vs. authorized).
And fact-check: IG did not recommend firing. You did.
DOJ dropped case because it knew it couldn't prove he lied, despite your pressure.
You: 16,000+ documented lies and counting.
Sad.
IG report on Andrew McCabe: Misled Investigators over roll in news media disclosure...Lacked Candor (Lied) on four separate occasions...Authotized Media Leaks to advance personal interests...IG RECOMMENDED MCCABE’S FIRING.
@FoxNews
@IngrahamAngle
Time to hold the lawyers accountable. The DC Rules of Professional Conduct define misconduct as "conduct that seriously interferes with the administration of justice." Every WH lawyer who facilitates obstruction of Congress through bogus privilege claims violates this rule.
I worked for Giuliani. I’m not completely baffled by the kind of scoundrel he’s turned out to be. The seeds were always there but they have been brought to full flower by his lust for power and his limitless appetite for attention.
Good for Bezos. This takes guts. The SDNY should nullify AMI and Pecker’s non-prosecution agreement and prosecute them for extortion and their campaign finance-related crimes. Throw the book at the whole sordid lot of them.
What prompts you to defame the McCabes every two weeks or so? There was no quid pro quo, as you falsely suggest. There was no misuse of campaign funds, as you have repeatedly and falsely suggested. You need to stop lying about the McCabes.
Why isn’t disgraced FBI official Andrew McCabe being investigated for the $700,000 Crooked Hillary Democrats in Virginia, led by Clinton best friend Terry M (under FBI investigation that they killed) gave to McCabe’s wife in her run for office? Then dropped case on Clinton!
The body of Ken Starr’s investigative work consists of exactly one matter, poorly handled. He is the most unqualified independent counsel ever selected. Starr is not a source anyone should look to for sound advice on investigative “form” or substance. He should stay in his lane.
Ken Starr is on
@cnn
saying
@Comey
and McCabe exhibited "poor form" in how they did not follow "protocol" in dealing with Flynn. What say you
@MonicaLewinsky
?
An undercovered piece of this: POTUS’s fierce denunciation of the NYT and the op-ed was loudly applauded by the 40+ sheriffs visiting the WH this afternoon. They are supposed to be leaders, not puppets who cheer attacks on the media. A shameful scene.
Nothing funny about tired Saturday Night Live on Fake News NBC! Question is, how do the Networks get away with these total Republican hit jobs without retribution? Likewise for many other shows? Very unfair and should be looked into. This is the real Collusion!
Judge should schedule a hearing on Tuesday, require Trump’s personal appearance, and ask for an explanation from the defendant, not his lawyer. What she does next depends on the explanation.
Donald Trump swore in court yesterday he would not attempt to influence or intimidate witnesses, retaliate against anyone, or in any other way attempt to obstruct the administration of justice.
“Are you prepared to comply?” the magistrate judge asked.
“Yes,” Trump replied.
Can anyone tell me how many people have been federally indicted for purchasing a gun while dealing with substance abuse issues? I don’t know the answer, but in my over 29 years as an attorney, I have never heard of it.
The lesson from this insider trading scandal: Members of Congress should be prohibited from serving on public company boards and owning individual stocks whose market value they affect every day.
Smith might want to note in his response that the real reason Trump’s lawyers need more time is because his new lawyer/talking head has booked himself on every Sunday talk show -a full Ginsburg++
Instead of bellowing about the wall, maybe POTUS should look into why his Administration hasn't hired the thousands of Border Patrol agents and immigration officers he promised. Instead, it's paid $ 297 M to consultants to produce 33 hires. Brilliant.
This is highly irregular. Why the rush to get Geoff Berman out the door and cause disarray in three different offices at once? There’s a story here. What is it?
Nielsen will apparently say anything or do anything to keep her job: lying under oath about POTUS comments, parroting the absurd arguments for a wall, and now shifting the blame for the death of young children. A craven climber. She needs to go.
The first Friday of the month have become IG massacre days. Let’s be clear: all of these moves are punishment for doing the jobs the law authorizes and requires IGs to do. Let someone defend this as anything other than an attack on independent oversight.
This will sound familiar to any prosecutor or FBI agent who has ever listened to mobster wiretaps. Dowd has made the transition from mob prosecutor to mob lawyer who conveys messages from the boss. The "national security" canard is reminiscent of Nixon's tactic during Watergate.
A travesty. The guidelines called for 19-24 years. He gets less than 4. Judge Berman should impose a consecutive sentence in the DC case and the government should appeal this sentence, which must be authorized by the AG or SG.
Further evidence that the FBI investigation was designed as a fig leaf to provide cover for uncomfortable senators instead of an evidence-driven search for truth, including who was telling it. A political exercise dressed up as an investigation.
The House should immediately initiate proceedings in re The Impeachment of Attorney General William Barr. This is simply the most recent egregious violation of his oath to protect and defend the Constitution.
U.S. Attorney General William Barr personally ordered federal law enforcement to clear a park near the White House of peaceful protesters on Monday in time for President Trump to walk to a church for a photo op, a Justice Department official said
This weekend the Treasury Sec poured accelerants on a stock market that POTUS had set ablaze. We saw the result today. The incompetence in this Administration is as stunning and pervasive as its corruption. Merry Christmas.
This is a big mistake and a very bad precedent. It guarantees that
@POTUS
will politicize and weaponize the OIG report before it is released. It's bad for DOJ, OIG, and the country.
If this doesn’t convince the Senate to convict, nothing will. This silent coup attempt was the precursor to the January 6 violent coup attempt. And the only place Mr. Clark should ever be allowed to practice law again is inside a federal prison.
Mary Shannon Little is dead on. Giuliani would have torn up the plea agreement of any cooperator who was acting as a double agent and impaneled a grand jury to investigate the lawyers for obstructing the investigation.
When I was a prosecutor working for Rudy Giuliani, if a defense lawyer representing a cooperating witness continued to participate in a joint defense agreement, he would have investigated that lawyer and others in the joint defense for obstruction of justice.
The Trump Shutdown is here. We also have its companion, the Trump Market Crash. And apparently around the corner, the Trump Recession. Not to mention the only distinguished member of his Cabinet resigns in protest. Not easy to do all that — he does it without breaking a sweat.
If Gen. Kelly can't even convince POTUS to order the WH flag to be flown at half-staff in honor of McCain, a genuine American military hero, why is Kelly still there? What is he accomplishing? He is dishonoring McCain. He should resign today.
"I resigned because I was not willing to serve a department that would so easily abdicate its responsibility to dispense impartial justice."
A blistering attack by one of the Stone prosecutors on the rot within DOJ.
Judge Webster stabilized the FBI after Watergate and the CIA after Iran-Contra. He is a patriot. The attacks on our intelligence and law enforcement agencies are personal for him, as they are for many of us. His message is the right one:Leave Mueller alone
Waiting for a single Republican Senator or Member of the Congress to criticize the firing of IG Atkinson as subverting and corrupting the principle of independent oversight and jeopardizing the independence of IGs.
This was painful to watch — an embarrassingly inept performance. We should all breathe a little easier when he leaves an office he should never have held. The sooner the better.
The arsonist sets the fire, sneaks away, then returns to the scene to douse the flames, expecting to be greeted as the conquering hero. We’ve seen this movie before. It’s been in reruns for years.
The United States of America will NOT be cutting funding to

magazine under my watch. It will continue to be a wonderful source of information to our Great Military!
The harsh reality of the corona virus finally overwhelmed these purveyors of propaganda, fake conspiracies and nonsense. We will never know how many people they endangered by their dishonest denialism. It should permanently discredit them all.
This confirms that Ratcliffe’s smarmy confirmation testimony promising transparency was all a lie. He should be subpoenaed to testify about the reasons for this move, and held in contempt if he doesn’t comply.

Remarkable for the incoming chair of Sen. Judiciary Committee to minimize lying to Congress as a process crime” — but consistent with his recent tolerance for it.
Asked Lindsey Graham about Cohen news, and he called it a “process crime.” Most Republicans downplaying the news, saying they haven’t followed it or saying it’s all about Cohen lying to Congress, while dismissing Trump’s knowledge of Trump Tower Moscow project
An elected Republican in the House or Senate who puts country over party and takes his constitutional oath seriously. 1 out of 252. All it took was reading the report and having an open mind.
Here are my principal conclusions:
1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.
2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.
3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances.
4. Few members of Congress have read the report.
The Stone sentence commutation is a dark day for this country and for the Department of Justice. Of all Trump's corrupt interventions and subversions of the normal workings of the criminal justice system, this is the most corrupt. (more)
Letter to FBI from Ford's lawyers: "It is inconceivable that the FBI could conduct a thorough investigation of Dr. Ford’s allegations without interviewing her, Judge Kavanaugh, or the witnesses we have identified in our letters to you."
Hoover and Coolidge have stepped forward to admit they're the ones who have privately told POTUS the wall is a good idea. The living ex-Presidents, not so much.
Secret hearings to avoid embarrassment, lame expressions of “concern” about illegal conduct, the mass retirement of senior members (including the Speaker) rather than taking principled stands — the wreckage and rubble of a once proud party.
COMEY blasts House Republicans following his testimony: "Someone has to stand up to the fear of Fox News, fear of their base, fear of mean tweets, stand up for the values of this country & not slink away to retirement. Stand up and speak the truth."
You truly can't make this stuff up. Not only are the picks for key positions utterly unqualified, they are lawbreakers who have a penchant for working with and for corrupt politicians at home and abroad.
Trump's acting DNI didn't tell the government about his foreign lobbying work, potentially violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. As a result,
@NatlSecCnslrs
opined, "he should not have a clearance." Great scoop by
@iarnsdorf
It’s always only a matter of time before POTUS labels credible and corroborated allegations as a “hoax,” a “witch-hunt,” or both. If it’s not Mueller, it’s Dr. Ford. The Senate can take a bow for giving a permission slip for this false and malicious nonsense.
Trump, who called Christine Blasey "very credible" in the wake of her Senate testimony, today says the allegations were a "hoax." He provides no evidence or proof of this shocking claim that runs counter to several of Ford's statements, supported by her husband and friends.
The anti-Mueller attacks have affected jurors, with this Manafort juror parroting “witch hunt” rhetoric. The rhetoric is an unprecedented form of jury tampering. Overwhelming evidence overcame her bias but apparently not the bias of the lone holdout.
Don McGahn played a central role in forcing WH employees to sign NDAs he knew were illegal and unenforceable. Lawyers can’t do this. The matter should be referred to the DC Bar for investigation and discipline.
“In Trump’s Washington, many officials have calculated that if they do not enthusiastically wade into Trump’s riptide of grievances and personal pursuits, they risk being ridiculed or sidelined by the president.”

The IG report is out: Andy McCabe's reward for 21 years devoted service was 23 days worth of "due process." The AG terminated him 26 hours short of his retirement on very shaky facts, depriving him of his retirement benefits. A disgrace. My statement:

One person can get to the bottom of this quickly: Judge Jackson at the sentencing next week.
She should order the 4 prosecutors, the DC US Attorney, and AG Barr to show up and explain.
Yes, Jordan is apparently the best the House GOP has to offer. He is Trump’s latest Roy Cohn. Three guarantees about his upcoming star turn

2. He will talk VERY fast and be VERY hard to follow
3. He will be uninterested in the truth
