Reminder that years ago, I cooked at an event for Gregg Wallace, who said my name was silly and proceeded to call me “You-You” for the rest of the day.
This is the mother of 17 year old medical student Khant Nyar Hein.
Her son was shot dead by junta police in Tamwe, Yangon yesterday before they dragged his body away.
I’m going to tell you all what she says in this video here

Lee Jung-jae is one of Korea’s biggest stars with a career spanning decades.
This reminds me of how even as a kid, I’d ask how come in all these ‘whole world apocalypse’ movies, disaster is only shown to strike the White House - and occasionally Big Ben and the Eiffel Tower? 🙃
One of my nieces went to protest outside the Myanmar Embassy of London.
“A lovely man on our side coming out to the Embassy to speak out. His letter reads ‘To the Embassy staff, I hope the military won’t turn Myanmar/Burma into an unpleasant joke’” 🥺❤️

One reason I follow you is because there *are* so few mixed couples in the public eye, and it’s nice to see one thriving.
Anyway, my husband and I have been together for 17 years, and married for 13 ❤️

I was bullied for being fat, brown and smart and I’m a fan of violent video games, but I haven’t murdered anyone.
Stop your bullshit excuses.
The racist crap you and your ilk peddle is what helps radicalise cnuts like the Christchurch terrorist.

Violent video games found not to be associated with adolescent aggression: Researchers at

Just found out about Ye Thu Aung, hero of Aungban.
A Muslim man who died defending his fellow protesters when they were under fire and managed to kill 4 soldiers and a policeman with just a sword!
His last words were, “It was worth it” 😭❤️

I can laugh about it in retrospect, but they were both really unpleasant to me.

the ivy asia has released a little britain-level promo video loaded with anti-asian racism. absolutely astonished that any restaurant or influencer / critic / writer promoting it could stand behind this
Jay, I like you.
But us “visible ethnics” have our experiences of racism questioned, minimised and dismissed on a daily basis.
This is a hideous thing to say and made me feel sick.
I was meant to go to my husband’s company Christmas do tonight, but stayed home as I have a nasty cold, and he just sent me this photo of the dessert table they had 😭
@nathanlawkc
Hi Nathan, I think others have reached out to you already, but we were really hoping you’d be a guest speaker in London as part of the Global Protest tomorrow?
18 countries, 37 cities & ground activists within Myanmar will be protesting at the same time. Thank you!
What’s particularly sick about this is that MWD’s well-coiffed anchor had a

bowl called a ngwe palar (ငွေဖလား) filled with padauk flowers next to her.
That’s the equivalent of the BBC announcing death sentences in front of a Christmas tree.

The rock band Idiots confirmed today that lead singer Raymond has passed away from malaria.
He was wanted by the military junta as one of Myanmar’s most active and prominent pro-democracy protestors and so he had been forced to flee to the border 💔

Please read this heartbreaking account of the crisis in Burma by Charlie Artingstoll, who lived there until he was arrested by the military.

Bloody hell, this thread.
I’d known about the more prominent stuff, but Johnson has a huge back catalogue of racism and most of it was in print!
#BorisTheRacist
2005 was a vintage year for Boris Johnson's racism, as he writes about how he is sceptical about the achievements of Mary Seacole and that she was "invented" as a role model for black nurses, thereby denying a black woman's contribution to history.
*Also* Tynes’ “experience with Cancel Culture” is a reference to that time she tried to get a Black subway worker fired for eating on the subway and people objected.
Just gonna say for the record that everyone is getting mighty upset about someone from another culture f*cking up one of their national dishes - weird, right?
Weird.
Gonna mute this thread now x
A MYANMAR HISTORY THREAD:
I saw this great piece, and I wanted to add some context about just how much the cause of Myanmar women has been set back after 60 years of brutal and misogynistic oppression by the Burmese military.

My grandma who escaped to a rebel encampment in the Burmese jungle with her husband, her toddler and her baby to avoid being shot by the government as dissidents.
They were there for 4 years - my dad remembers my grandpa catching a flying fox for food 👀
“But of course, my son is lifeless now.
They murdered him.
They even shot him three times.
How could he survive that?
Three times.
He wasn’t even 18 years old yet.
Not even 18.”

It took me 5 days of trying to get a delivery slot with a supermarket and, when I did, it was with Morrison’s and for 3 weeks away!
Just found out that Deliveroo can deliver a pretty decent subset of Morrison’s stock - this lovely lot arrived just half an hour after I ordered!
I thought I was going to cry on stage.
The whole event was incredibly powerful and I’m so, so grateful to
@Raise3Fingers
for asking me to be involved and to everyone who performed, volunteered, donated and came along!
And we raised nearly £40,000!

In Pyinmana yesterday, protesters painted 'F**k the Coup' on a street with white paint.
Bizarrely, the authorities painted over the white letters with black paint.
So today, the protesters painted a nice yellow border around the edges 😁
