👇 #DerelictIreland is the wreckage of what was my family home. My mother bought The Office House at the Gunpowder Mills with winnings from the @TheSundayIndo Spot the Ball competition. Unoccupied for 15 yrs, we resurrected it, in one lifetime it was saved, loved & lost again.

Rural dereliction is often rooted in the age old complexity of inheritance. Properties left to more than one family member, emotional attachment to the past and often with no capital to restore or even maintain the house. 33% inheritance tax seems a lot #DerelictIreland #Mayo

@frank_oconnor Taxation is a huge problem in this area. Many people have been left properties by deceased relatives who cannot afford either 33% Inheritance Tax plus the additional cost of renovating these properties. This is more evident in rural Ireland. Remove the tax would be a start.

MRI results day tomorrow. Thanks to depleted neurology provision in Belfast, #Covid_19 limitations & stop-start medical access my two previous MRIs with two different anomalies failed to be followed up. Finally I will find out if my #PTSD symptoms have a more sinister root.

Ebb Tide 1941 by Irish Artist #MarySwanz The grieving figure fills the frame, folded into herself on the edge of the sea, likely a self portrait. Swanzy lived through both world wars and the Irish civil war. The red figure a recurring motif in her later works Private collection.

Thanks for all the kind wishes, neurology MRIs results benign. More tests for nerve damage but the 🧠is firing on all cylinders. Shame it's taken three years to deliver those results. #NHSCrisis just good old PTSD to continue to manage, oh and failed the MOT 😭

@lottythegirl @IrishRainforest Cultivation and management I believe is the term. I've know those trees for for twenty eight years & many more they've deemed unsafe for road users, and so they chop. It's work for someone & the tidy ethic is writ large in some heads more so than the beauty of wild nature.

My father, made in #Croydon buried in #Cloch án Brandon between the stones. Despite starting his family in Galway, the first generation born in 🇮🇪 since his grandparents settled in #Lancashire , in burying him here it felt we were home. Being #Irish & English is complicated.
