I did something today that would’ve been (regrettably) really hard to pull off over the last 12 yrs. I dropped everything, cancelled meetings, and went unplanned to my oldest’s 1st grade ‘meet the teacher’ day. I surprised him & he was really happy — it made me even happier! 😊

One startup I backed sold for $20M w CEO/Founder at 80%+, another sold for $10M and he CEO and his co-founder owned 90%. Another sold for $40M CEO/founder owned 45%+. His two co-founders had 25%. One does $10M+ in rev, spits out $3M/year in profit. He won’t sell. All winners!

We bootstrapped Dyn to $30M ARR w no outside funding. Our first round was mostly secondary but it gave us the governance, credibility & modest cash infusion we needed to make the right investments to sustain growth. Bootstrap & then raise to go for it! You can do both! 🚀

Also- I personally joined Dyn 7 years in as we pivoted from b2c to b2b to realize our scale. In the end, as a hired gun entrepreneur exec, I had more equity at our exit than many fully diluted startup founders at IPO. Our two co-founders crushed it!
