Archived Official Twitter Account for the 51st Attorney General of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Daniel Cameron. For current updates, follow:
@DanielCameronKY
Makenze and I are overjoyed to announce that Baby Boy Cameron will be joining our family this winter! We are so thankful for this blessing, and we can’t wait to meet our son.
Yesterday, President Biden announced policies that will directly encroach upon the prerogatives of countless businesses, employers and employees. I don’t think our Constitution permits it. (1/2)
Today marks the first day of
#BlackHistoryMonth
. This month, let’s take time to remember and celebrate the contributions Black men and women have made to our Commonwealth and to our nation.
Today, I joined 21 Attorneys General from across the country to file the first-ever “Friend of the Senate” letter outlining the legal and factual flaws with the Articles of Impeachment against
@realDonaldTrump
/
@POTUS
I encourage all Kentuckians to social distance and celebrate Easter in their homes, as I’ll be doing.
I am, however, deeply concerned that our law enforcement officers are being asked to single out religious services. (1/2)
I co-signed a letter with 22 attorneys general urging the Senate to confirm Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Her qualifications and legal background make her ideally suited to serve as an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court.
Read the letter here:
Read the press release from today’s announcement regarding the completion of the investigation into the death of Ms. Breonna Taylor, and the Grand Jury’s decision:
Directing a uniformed presence at church services to record the identity of worshippers and to force a quarantine, while doing no such thing for the people gathered at retail stores or obtaining an abortion, is the definition of arbitrary. (2/2)
No public official of either party should be treated like Senator
@RandPaul
and his wife Kelley were last night. These actions have no place among peaceful calls for change in this country.
Today, 38 U.S. Senators, including
@senatemajldr
&
@randpaul
, filed an amicus brief before
#SCOTUS
supporting our fight to stop the Governor from infringing on the First Amendment rights of Kentuckians by closing religious schools.
Read the brief here:
Today, we are in court to protect the rights of Kentuckians and ensure that the process used by the Governor to issue Executive Orders complies with the law. This is not about the Governor’s policies, it’s about making sure he follows the law.

Heartbroken to learn of Carol Barr’s passing. Carol was a wonderful mother and wife, and she was beloved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. My heartfelt prayers are with Andy, their children, and their entire family as they mourn this unspeakable loss.
21 Attorneys General joined together to challenge President Biden’s unconstitutional cancellation of the Keystone XL Pipeline. On Friday, I talked with
@FoxNews
about the negative repercussions this cancellation will have on Kentucky and on our country.
Listen here:
“The freedoms provided by our Constitution are stronger than the fears of the moment and cannot be cast aside by the Governor or any leader.”
Read my full statement regarding the court’s decision to uphold the First Amendment by allowing in-person learning at religious schools:
It is an honor to serve the citizens of Kentucky as Attorney General, and it will be my top priority to defend our Commonwealth and protect Kentuckians.
There is incredible work to be done, and the people of Kentucky have my unwavering commitment.
The pensions of Kentucky’s public employees should not be subject to “ESG” investment practices that allow political decision-making to trump sound financial decisions. We issued an opinion today finding that ESG practices are inconsistent with state law.
Fantastic
#SCOTUS
pick by
@RealDonaldTrump
. Judge Barrett is a courageous defender of the Constitution and her record speaks for itself. I’m confident
@senatemajldr
will make sure she’s confirmed.
What is happening on Capitol Hill today is despicable, and I condemn it.
We are a country founded on the rule of law. Concerns and grievances are addressed through the political process and through peaceful protests, not violence and anarchy. This must stop.
Our office joined a 16-state amicus brief in support of the NRA’s lawsuit seeking to stop New York’s attempt to dissolve the organization. We will always fight to protect the 2nd Amendment rights of Kentuckians.

I applaud
@POTUS

@realdonaldtrump
’s executive order today, which flatly rejects the radical notion of defunding the police in favor of reasonable, commonsense measures that will encourage safe policing and strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and our communities.
We’re disappointed with the Sixth Circuit’s ruling allowing the Governor to close religious schools, but we’re already hard at work to take this matter to the United States Supreme Court.
Today, President Biden’s Department of Justice brought federal civil rights charges against four individuals in connection with the death of Ms. Breonna Taylor. (1/7)
Enjoyed meeting with United States Attorney General William Barr today to discuss law enforcement matters in the Commonwealth and throughout the nation.
Those who are gathering in Louisville today to protest, we understand the desire for truth & ask that to be the focus of demonstrations, not violence. We continue to work diligently in pursuit of the truth by conducting an independent investigation into the death of Ms. Taylor.
Makenze and Daniel are proud to announce the birth of their son, Theodore Jay Cameron.
The new parents thank God for this tiny blessing. They are excited for this new adventure and are thankful to all who have prayed for them along the way.
We’ve received the FBI ballistics report in the Breonna Taylor investigation. There is still additional analysis that must take place, & our office does not plan to make an announcement this week. We continue to work diligently to follow the facts and complete the investigation.
“My responsibility is to the truth and to the information, and then that is ultimately what leads to the conclusion.”

Last night, we filed our Supreme Court brief in defense of the constitutional rights of Kentuckians. The brief challenges the constitutionality of the Governor’s
#COVID19
executive orders, emphasizing that even during a pandemic, our laws and Constitution cannot be cast aside.
On
#TeacherAppreciationDay
, I’d like to recognize my wife, Makenze, a 3rd grade teacher for Oldham County Schools. I know how tirelessly she works for her students, & I see that same dedication from teachers across Kentucky. Thank you for investing in the lives of your students.
President Biden’s attack on Title IX would be detrimental to female athletes, and that is why I have joined several efforts to keep biological males out of women’s sports. Read more:
The Constitution is not political, & it must be followed even in a pandemic. Across the country, Governors are collaborating with elected leaders from both parties to make sure that COVID-19 restrictions balance public health with the law. This Governor should do the same.

This afternoon, we filed our reply brief with
#SCOTUS
, urging the nation's highest court to stop enforcement of the Governor’s order shuttering religious schools. (1/2)
My statement regarding the lawsuit we filed in federal court today to stop the Governor's unconstitutional order banning in-person instruction at religious schools.

We argued before the Supreme Court today that our laws prohibit the Governor from exercising absolute power during a pandemic. While COVID-19 does require changes to keep Kentuckians safe, these changes should be made in a way that allows public input.
On Juneteenth, we commemorate the ending of slavery in the U.S. and recognize the journey and achievement of the Black community.
The road has not been easy, but let us commit to continue working together to enact positive change in our communities.
We are holding a press conference at 1:30pm ET to announce the results of the Grand Jury proceedings in the investigation into the death of Ms. Breonna Taylor.

I joined a coalition of 17 Attorneys General in writing a letter denouncing the dangerous “defund the police” movement. As the letter states, “our goal should be to empower law enforcement to legally & ethically fulfill their duties, not restrict their ability to protect us all.”
Last night, a federal court ruled that the Governor’s order closing religious schools could not be enforced under the First Amendment. Hours later, the United States Supreme Court issued an opinion in a separate case that applied the same analysis. (1/6)
Over the last several days, and in today’s press conference, Governor Beshear has increased his attacks on judges. These attacks must stop if we are all to truly be in this together. (1/2)
The unborn are a miraculous and precious gift from God. We will continue to defend the pro-life laws passed by the General Assembly when they come under attack.
This is misleading. We are complying with the Judge’s order. The Grand Jury audio recording is more than 20 hrs long, & we filed a motion to request additional time, if the court permits it, to redact personally identifiable information of witnesses (addresses and phone numbers).
I am deeply saddened to learn that Scott County Deputy Sheriff Caleb Conley was shot and killed this evening. Makenze and I mourn the loss of this hero. Today's tragedy is yet another example of the grave dangers faced by our law officers. (1/2)
We filed a petition today before
#SCOTUS
asking the court to hear our case in defense of HB 454, which bans the live dismemberment of an unborn child.

I joined
@foxandfriends
this morning to discuss comments from out-of-state celebrities and our office’s continued commitment to the following the truth and the law.

Today the Court of Appeals granted our motion to have the Kentucky Human Life Protection Act and the Heartbeat Law reinstated in the Commonwealth. (1/3)
The Governor cannot issue broad, arbitrary orders apart from the requirements of state law, and a Judge agreed today by issuing a statewide temporary restraining order against his executive orders.

In the same week the governor said no to protecting women's sports, yesterday he said no to protecting babies in the womb.
We respect life in the Commonwealth, and we will always defend it. The General Assembly should immediately override the governor's veto of HB 3.
One year ago, I was honored to be sworn in as Attorney General. As I reflect on the last year, I’m grateful to Kentuckians for the opportunity to serve and look forward to continuing to work every day on behalf of the men, women, and children of all 120 counties.
“Courts have a vital responsibility to enforce the rule of law, which is critical to a free society.”
Powerful words from Judge Barrett’s opening statement. We are fortunate to have a nominee for our nation’s highest court who is committed to upholding the rule of law.
Earlier this year, we issued guidance stating that closing religious schools during the pandemic would risk violating the U.S. Constitution and state law. In his latest school closure order, the Governor dismissed the guidance.
Happy
#MothersDay
to our moms, who have given so much to us. We are grateful for the way they support, encourage, and care for our families. We hope all moms across the Commonwealth feel cherished today.
Hey Kentucky, it's Election Day!
Make a plan to vote. Polls are open 6a.m.-6p.m.
Head to to find your polling place.
And if you suspect election law violations, report the incident to the Attorney General's election fraud hotline at (800) 328-VOTE.
Judges at every level have found constitutional problems with his orders. Instead of collaborating with our office and the General Assembly to fix these issues, he’s pointing fingers.

We filed an emergency application with the U.S. Supreme Court this evening to protect the First Amendment rights of Kentuckians and stop enforcement of the Governor’s order closing religious schools.

Breaking News: The U.S. Supreme Court agreed with our legal arguments and struck down the Biden Administration’s vaccine mandate for large employers.
Read my full statement below:
Kentucky law gives the Governor broad power during a state of emergency, but it does not give him the power to violate the First Amendment. The Governor should rescind his executive orders targeting faith-based gatherings during
#COVID19
.
The Governor should instead focus his efforts on addressing constitutional infirmities that every judge, state & federal, trial & appellate, have found with his orders. He has yet to win a challenge in court, & he should not blame judges for his unconstitutional actions. (2/2)
On this
#ConstitutionDay
, we are proud to defend the constitutional rights of Kentuckians before the Supreme Court and argue that even in the midst of a pandemic, the Constitution must still apply.
A Federal Judge today ruled that Gov. Beshear’s travel ban is unconstitutional and that it “infringes on the basic rights of citizens to engage in interstate travel.”

The General Assembly has charged our office to help ensure election integrity in the Commonwealth.
Today, we randomly selected 12 counties that will undergo a post-election audit for the 2023 general election.
I sat down yesterday with
@LASmithReports
to discuss our office’s investigation into the death of Ms. Breonna Taylor and, in the full interview, I address some of the misinformation about the case.
