Blessed child of God. 2023 CSC Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer & NCAA Champion of Diversity award winner. CSC Past President. Lincoln Hall of Famer. WNBA lover!
Excuse me for a minute while I take time to process being named the 2023
@CollSportsComm
Mary Jo Haverbeck Trailblazer Award winner.
This is definitely the biggest professional honor of my life. I am speechless for once in my life. To God be the Glory.
Honored for this next step in my career journey. Excited to start at
@uncgspartans
as Associate AD for Strategic Communications. North Carolina here I come!
#LetsgoG
St. Peters beating Kentucky shows you that you can have all the money, resources and facilities in the world but at the end of the day hoops comes down to 5 dudes against 5 dudes regardless of talent level.
Shout out to Shaheen who had his squad ready.
Crown her!
Angel Reese being introduced as part of the LSU starting lineup in her Baltimore homecoming tonight against Coppin State.
The PEC is crackling with electricity.
Wanted to share that today I started the next chapter in my career as the Senior Director of Strategic Communications for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
Impacting the next generation of HBCU students will be special. Also, Thurgood Marshall & I are Lincoln (Pa.) alums.
Praise report: My nephew was found safe & is home.
Thank you so much for all the prayers, thoughtful text messages and support over the last 24 hours. Means more than you know.
The power of prayer works.
Our hearts are filled with so much gratitude. Thank you again.
Unfortunately, what happened today further feeds the perception that nobody cares about women's basketball and it's sad. Many student-athletes around the country were robbed of "the moment."
From Candace Parker: "I challenge men to come forward and be that advocate for women. Men need to hire and make room at the table. Not get up, just move over."
Challenge accepted
@Candace_Parker
!
@LaChinaRobinson
was a fantastic host today.

Started my morning interviewing ESPN analyst
@Andraya_Carter
& learned so much about her spirit & journey to becoming the most popular and well loved personality.
She was so gracious with her time and so engaging.
Story dropping in a few days. Stay tuned.
The fact that Norfolk State MBB as a regular season champion is going to participate in the CBI & not get offered a bid to the NIT is sickening & beyond disgusting.
A regular season champ should have access to the NCAA or NIT if they lose in a conference tournament.
This past year has taught me so much. I learned to celebrate every small thing I used to take for granted because the next breath isn’t promised.
Blessed that God allowed me another trip around the sun to celebrate another birthday.
Excited for the 47th Chapter of my life.
Athletic communicators here's how you can make an impact during this time: Allow your student-athletes to share their stories of how they were impacted by the protests & get their thoughts. Some of them probably participated in protests too. Amplify their voices to the world.
I had to deliver my final presidential message from the ❤️ after misplacing my original remarks. It is my hope that you were inspired by my passion, humility, authenticity & hard work on your behalf this past year. I’ve ran my race. Excited for the future of our organization.
Sharing some good news on a Monday.
Excited & honored to be named to the distinguished Lisa Leslie Award committee.
Anybody who knows my passion for women's basketball understands how hyped I am to be part of a prestigious award process. To God be the glory.
“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
Thank you Towson for the last 1,613 days of shining moments, memories, fun & great people.
Here’s a thread of visual memories.
Sharing a little news.
I am excited and blessed to be selected as a women’s board member of the
@USBWA
.
My passion for WBB will be continue to be reflected as I continue to help enhance the sport through my behind the scenes work with the USBWA.
Thanks
@womhoopsguru
!
It’s my birthday!
Thanking God for allowing me to see another year. Growing up where I grew up, I am humbled and thankful for Gods grace because I am as flawed as they come.
I appreciate the opportunities and blessings I’ve been able to experience during my life!
Good morning. As a member of
@WomenLeadersCS
&
@WNBA
freelance writer, I support women in sports.
When I have had the power to hire, I’ve hired women.
Women in sports are dope.
Women in sports need to be respected.
Women in sports belong.
Women in sports are awesome.
Normally I am private about family.
After a long battle, the Lord called my dad home not too long ago. He was 77 and the reason why all my dreams came true.
I know he'll be looking down and smiling on me tonight.
Feel free to keep reading as I share a little more.
Today marks my official 1-year anniversary of becoming a UNCG Spartan.
Blessed to work with great people and amazing student-athletes at a terrific University.
PSA: If your intention isn’t to genuinely champion women in sports, especially WOC, then don’t engage them with false promises & disingenuous motives. These women work too hard & are good at what they do to deal with nonsense from ppl who don’t have their best interests at heart.
Blessed to officially begin my 15th year in athletic communications, my 1st at UNCG & 26th overall in the media (including my time at ESPN, Philly Inquirer & Delco Times).
All I can do is thank God for everybody I’ve been fortunate to meet & work with along my journey.
13 years ago 2 became 1.
You’re the best person, friend, mother, wife, teacher and everything else in between. Love you and happy anniversary. A lifetime remaining!

"It's a blessing to serve as CoSIDA's president for the 2018-19 academic year. I am standing on the shoulders of giants as I transition into this prestigious role. I want to thank Towson for its support of me in this esteemed leadership position."
Finished my 47th & final book of 2021. In full disclosure, I started this book in mid-December.
“Sorry Not Sorry” by
@Alyssa_Milano
is an excellent and poignant read. I love the depth of her thinking and tangible action steps listed in the book. This is a good book.
Kobe Bryant vs. Chester High in 1996 was special. He knew he had to be at his best to beat the Clippers 2x in 3 weeks. He did it by scoring 34 & 39 points in OT. Lower Merion won the state title. Years later, Kobe released a signature Orange & Black shoe called “Chester.”
I am overwhelmed & humbled by all the love today. It means so much to me. I am also thankful for all of my new followers. Appreciate you all.
My goal is to respond to everybody who reached out. It may take until 2022. Lol. But I am going to try so I ask for patience.
Am I the only person that takes 30 minutes to decide what I want to watch on Netflix, Prime Video, and any other streaming service. The struggle is real.
Blessed to see another birthday.
The older I get, the more I appreciate and value moments and the simple joy of waking up.
The last 365 days were quite the adventure where I grew, failed, laughed, cried, traveled & enjoyed amazing experiences.
By God’s grace, happy bday to me.
So blessed.
I used to pray for times like this to attend a women’s Final Four.
So I had to grind like that to shine like this & write with a purpose.
Covering South Carolina this weekend.
Today is the day the world was blessed with my presence. Thanking God for allowing me see another year. Grateful for all his blessings during my life. Excited to see what 2020 has in store for me.

Lost my cousin today. Same age as me. So many childhood memories and lots of fun. I am a mess & hurting but I will be fine.
Love hard. Be kind. Tell people how you feel. Don't take life for granted.
Thank you bro for your support & love.

Any discussions of women’s basketball 🐐🐐 better include Maya Moore, who I casually chatted with yesterday morning during an awesome event at Truss in Cleveland.
If you’ve never attended or worked at a HBCU, you don’t understand the disappointment of having to watch the MEAC and SWAC champ have to go to Dayton on an almost annual basis. I know it’s numbers based but still unfortunate. I still remember Southern beating Ga Tech in 1993.
After 5 years in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA), I begin a new journey through the Southern Conference. Excited to visit new campuses & see different programs beginning today as we host East Tennessee State.
Definitely miss all my buddies in the CAA!
So I was cleaning today & came across some awesome artifacts. My 2002 WNBA All-Star Game Story & feature story on
@dawnstaley
. So in reality I’ve been covering the

for a long time. Check out the All-Star starters too.

MARCH MADNESS. 🤯🤯🤯
NCCU’s Justin Wright ties the game with 1.2 seconds remaining against Norfolk State with a 3-pointer. Overtime is looming.
58-58 as Future’s “March Madness” blares at the Scope.
Sharing some personal news: I was recognized today by the NCAA as a summer Champion of Diversity & Inclusion award winner.
To say I am humbled & blessed is an understatement. This recognition is easily one of the highlights of my career.
Nothing like cleaning & coming across an article I wrote about
@dawnstaley
in 2002 when she was a member of the Charlotte Sting & Temple head women’s basketball coach.
This was before the 2002

All-Star Game in Washington, D.C. also check out the starters.

Beginning year 5 at Towson, year 14 in athletic communications and year 21 as a media professional (stops at ESPN & the Delaware County Daily Times). Yea I’ve been around. Still believe my best is ahead of me.
💔💔. I am emotionally shaken.
Lifting Stephanie and her family in my prayers. I know God doesn’t make mistakes. This hurts.
Stephanie was a beautiful person with a sweet soul and sparkling spirit. I will remember the good times, laughs, and your warm smile. Love you. R.I.H.
When I attended Temple in 1995, I lived down the hall from Kobe Bryant's older sister, Sharia. He visited her one day & realized I was down the hall. Came to say what's up to me. He noticed I had VHS tapes of Bulls NBA Finals games. Asked if he could borrow them. I said yes.
Praying for traveling mercies today as I begin the next chapter of my career journey.
1st UNCG road trip.
1st UNCG men's basketball game.
1st live event I will have covered since March.
Thanking God for this opportunity along with his mercy & blessings.
I am numb.
Had the blessing of covering & getting to know Kobe when he was in high school & watch him evolve into the 🐐🐐.
Life is so precious. Tomorrow is not promised. Please love one another & tell people how you feel while we have the opportunity.
R.I.P. Kobe.
Excited to share my 3,000-word story on Cheyney University WBB's 1982 run to the NCAA championship, the only HBCU to accomplish this feat.
Everybody should know Cheyney State’s story because it’s more than just Black history. Thanks to
@TheNextHoops
!
Congrats to
@CheyneyWBB
on its long overdue induction into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. I am sharing the 3,000-word story I wrote on Cheyney earlier this year.
Cheyney remains the only HBCU to compete in an NCAA Division I WBB Final Four.
Coppin State hosts reigning national champion LSU tonight in WBB. I heard the game is a sellout!
Back in October, I went to Coppin State to speak to coach Wood, Mossi Staples and Faith Blackstone about hosting LSU and Angel Reese. Sharing my story again.
Let’s remember that Cody Parkey is human. And humans aren’t always perfect. He has a family & probably already feels bad. Please keep that in mind & have perspective.
In the last 24 hours, I was RT by UMBC Athletics, finished a 5K race, was featured on the D1ticker, had dinner with Peyton Manning, Dr. Harry Edwards, Mike Lowell & Jason Hansen, added to my selfie collection, spoke at BCSIDA and had a blast adding to my toolbox.
I still carry around my first press pass in my wallet from when I started as a sports reporter. I will always be a journalist at heart. Blessed for the talent & gift of telling stories and writing among other things.

Life in Indy is cool. It’s a blessing to be part of this tournament in a year as unique as this. Great job by the NCAA to pull this off along with their fantastic ambassadors. Man, 68 teams.
This is like the basketball version of the Penn Relays with all the schools here.
Geno postgame on
@CoachTReed
"I wanted to put myself out there for her. I think we need coaches like her to be celebrated & bigger schools need to not keep recycling coaches that are let go by other Power 5s. There's a lot of great coaches out there, and she's one of them."
Anybody who knows my passion & love for women’s hoops knows that being able to witness
@Towson_WBB
win the CAA championship & earn its 1st bid to the NCAAs is special. Easily 1 of the best moments of my professional career. Thank you for allowing me to be part of the celebration.
Sharing a personal highlight: My daughter turned 4 yesterday.
Where did the time go? Seemed like yesterday I was holding her in my arms for the 1st time.
Join me in congratulating
@MsCELovely
on her appointment as Director of Athletics at Palm Beach Atlantic. This is awesome news. Well deserved for one of the best people in the business. I know you'll do an awesome job. She's an amazing leader.
Everybody wins when you invest in, pay, hire & empower women.
1. be a champion
2. be inclusive in the decision-making process
3. strategically provide opportunities for growth & exposure
4. inspire confidence
5. listen
Thank you for this dope shirt

Was blessed to document Angel Reese's homecoming as well as shine a light on Coppin State. It was an event & a lot of fun.
The festive atmosphere was a combination cookout, block party, and Beyonce concert.
Feel free to read my story.
2019 CAA Women’s Basketball Champions: Towson University. Up next: The NCAA Tournament. So proud and happy for our women’s basketball program. Well deserved. Was glad to be present to witness history.
A 38-year-old played the entire game and scored 40 points and guarded Denver’s best players, took 2 charges, etc. I have nothing but love and respect for Bron Bron. Idc what y’all say.
Back in the 90s, I used to make NCAA Tournament scrapbooks. I always made sure I read John Smallwood because seeing his face in the paper motivated me that could be one day. And it was eventually.
Here's some of Smallwood's stories from the 1995 and 1998 NCAA Tournament. R.I.P.
My 5-year term on the
@CoSIDAnews
board is concluding. It was a blessing to have served our membership as the 2nd Black president in our organization’s history.
I am proud of our work that helped elevate CoSIDA.
Thank you for believing in & supporting me. To God be the Glory.
Watched my 4-year-old daughter & 9-year-old son sleeping & couldn’t stop smiling at the all the possibilities for them both.
They live during a time when a Black president & a Black woman is the VP is a reality. As a dad, this warms my heart. They can “dream with ambition.”
The city of Chester lost another giant. And I lost a friend.
Can’t believe I am typing this today. R.I.P. Larry Yarbray, former Chester High boys basketball coach but so much more.
He impacted so many & transformed lives. This hurts for real. I am sad, hurt, & speechless.
Just a reminder, make today great.
You are seen. Your name is in rooms you know nothing about. You are appreciated and valued. Your struggle, grind & dedication will reap rewards. Keep being you. Keep helping others. Keep up the great work.
Your time is closer than you think.
Today has literally been one of the best days in
#WNBA
history. You can’t help but to appreciate the talent, passion and hard work of these wonderful women. I love the WNBA & don’t care what anyone thinks. It’s a blessing being able to share some stories of some of the players.
As a HBCU grad, I feel so much pride about what’s taking place tomorrow. Kamala may have graduated from Howard but this is a moment for everybody who attended and is currently attending a HBCU. The sense of pride is tremendous. Signed a Lincoln University grad.
Just a couple of dudes from CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA living out our dreams. So proud of my guy John Linehan, the NCAA all-time steals leader.
He’s currently an assistant hoops coach at Georgia.
Started Jan. 1, 2023 with my dad watching the Eagles lose to the Saints. It was the last Eagles game we watched together.
Lost him in May. Still miss him and am grieving.
Yet thankful for our time together & memories. He would be proud of me as we move into 2024.
Last night was so epic. The significance of this photo is important as you’re looking at the only 3 Black
@CoSIDAnews
presidents in history.
@JessPooleA2
& I were honored to accept the Hall of Fame induction award for CoSIDA’s 1st Black President Bob Smith.
We are Bob’s legacy.
Today marks my 2-year anniversary of working at UNCG.
It’s been quite the ride. I’ve learned a lot. Despite my many mistakes, I am still here.
It’s a blessing to tell our student-athlete stories, lead an area, work with talented and passionate co-workers & serve others.
Saturday thought: Stop caring about if people like or accept you. At the end of the day, your character and body of work will speak the loudest. Nobody can take that from you. Guess what, you can have an awesome body of work and ppl still dislike or don’t accept you. 🤷🏽♂️
