Ah yes, the oldest game design trick in the book where the giant yeti rips up the ice to reveal a tropical paradise where more giant yetis are fighting
Today is my 13 year anniversary of starting at Nintendo. It’s also my last day at Nintendo. I’m fortunate to have been a small part of this incredible company for all these years. It was the experience of a lifetime full of unforgettable moments and people.
Just a couple people who had their lives changed by being able to connect with all of you through Nintendo Minute. Eight years, 400+ episodes, too many good memories to count. Thank you for all of it.
The reaction to Pratt as Mario is going to look cute in comparison to what is going to happen when we hear Link speak for the first time in this movie 💀
Mr. Iwata is a heroic figure for Nintendo employees of this era for many reasons, but the way he all made us feel safe when the company was on shaky ground is very high on the list.
Five years later and Breath of the Wild is still the most incredible game I’ve ever played. It’s like something that came to us from the future through a time machine - there’s just nothing else like it. I can’t believe this game exists.
These major videos typically have music or actors which are licensed for use for a year, then need to be renewed or taken down. Switch OLED was announced a year ago tomorrow. This is most likely nothing.
March 20 then vs March 20 now. I’ve played

New Horizons every single day for the past year, and I’ll always have such sweet memories of this game. Happy anniversary!
10 minutes of gameplay feels like a compromise between developers who want to show as little as possible and a marketing team feeling pressure to make this a huge launch.

I doubt we’ll ever know the full story behind the Bayonetta VA issue and I expect any response from Nintendo/PG to be as vague as possible. I just can’t think of a worse scenario for parting ways with someone who has been such an important part of this series for over a decade.
You almost never see Nintendo developers out there talking about their games anymore and it's a real shame. My hope is that Sakurai being on YouTube can help them see the genuine excitement that can come from being just a bit more open about the process.
Remember how Metroid Prime Remastered managed to be a huge surprise by having a digital first, physical later release? Have to wonder if that’s being discussed as a plan for major releases going forward after what happened today.
13 years is a long time and I’m excited to experience the surprises and fun with fresh eyes alongside all of you. I’m also grateful for the chance to reflect on this time and think about what I’d like to do next. Thanks to everyone for your support – it’s meant everything to me.
The Tears of the Kingdom art book is a great reminder that the longer you wait to share information, the higher your risk of something leaking. Nintendo is good at controlling leaks but you reach a point where it becomes really hard to manage.
At an age where many people are retired, Shigeru Miyamoto co-produced a record breaking movie and helped to create an incredible theme park experience - both of which he had never done before. It's never too late to try (and be incredible at) something new.
Nintendo should take the steps to ensure the Switch reveal video stays on their channels forever. They may disagree, but it is an important piece of video game history. It’s time for a mindset shift on things like this now that their official museum is on the way.
My expectation with a sequel is that you’re taking a big step beyond what you did in your last game, and what you’re introducing goes further than what you could do in an update. There’s still time, but I can’t say I’ve seen that yet from Splatoon 3.
This week I’m celebrating 10 years at Nintendo! I’ll never take for granted that I get to work somewhere that means so much to me, and brings joy to so many others.
The 2017 Switch software lineup is the best ever for a single year (less than 12 months too!), and is so strong it feels like it may never be topped.
-Zelda BOTW
-Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
-ARMS
-Splatoon 2
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2
-Super Mario Odyssey
Super Mario Odyssey is an all-time great game, and its launch will always remind me of an incredibly fun and exciting moment in time. Happy anniversary! 🎉
I keep wondering if we’re on the verge of another video game industry crash like the 1980s. Not in the sense that people will stop buying games, but more that there’s going to be major change among the key players in the industry and the types of games they make going forward.
It’s not what everyone wanted, but Nintendo shaking up their schedule for Directs is ultimately a good thing. Directs are at their best when you really don’t know what to expect, and now expectations have been reset. Anything could happen now.
In 2018 I was the E3 Lead” for Nintendo. It was a role with vague responsibilities but it was one of those things that could make or break your career. I became intimately knowledgeable about every tiny detail of the show as it devoured months of my life. What a crazy time.
The very first episode of Nintendo Minute debuted seven years ago! Every day I feel lucky to do this show with

alongside our incredible team and share our love of Nintendo with you. Thank you all so much for sticking with us. 💖
Quick impressions of the Mario trailer:
- Jack Black is awesome as Bowser
- Feels big in scope
- Lots of cool references for fans
- The voice is just Pratt doing Pratt. Not flashy but it could be a lot worse
- I really want to see more
OK, time to lie down and exhale
I have great memories of Super Mario 3D World and not just because it’s really fun to play - it’s also one of the very first games we played on Nintendo Minute when we started back in 2013!
I’m feeling a growing divide between Zelda traditionalists and people who prefer the Breath of the Wild approach. I think we’ll still get traditional Zelda titles in the future but if you’re Nintendo it’s hard to argue with the results of these new games.
Everything the Mario movie marketing team put out today around Super Mario Bros. Plumbing is *extremely* difficult to pull off, and they just did it flawlessly. Elite stuff.
If you’re Nintendo, the bad Mario movie reviews sting but they reinforce why you did it in the first place. The Mario series is huge but there are still a lot of people out there who haven’t thought about it in decades. You’re reaching people you never could through games alone.
It won’t be popular but Nintendo can absolutely justify charging $70 for Tears of the Kingdom. It’s their most premium game and they can point to earlier pricing by Sony and Xbox as setting the market. I doubt this will be their default pricing for everything from here on.

I worked on this game and it was absolutely one of the most bizarre stretches of my career - got to visit the Playboy Mansion, went on a store tour with a Playmate and learned way more than I ever cared to know about Hugh Hefner.
Welcome to Playboy: The Mansion, a Sims-clone from 2005.
