When Miyamoto was creating Mario, he was inspired by Akira Toriyama's work Dr. Slump, looking at the way the characters moved to inform his own work.
Akira Toriyama's influence on the entertainment being created in the 80's can't be stressed enough.
After 1,200+ episodes and 20+ movies, Ash retires from the Pokémon Anime today in Japan.
The last episode is called "The Rainbow and the Pokémon Master!", a fitting conclusion!
In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, you can collect trophies (very similar to Smash Bros.)
What makes this amazing is if you rotate the camera, you can actually see Kirby looking at them and enjoying his collection.
Pokémon Company is starting a new YouTube show called 'Beyond the Pokedex'
This show will go through every single Pokémon in 1000+ episodes examining their appearances in video games, cards and anime.
Nintendo made a slide explaining what fans jokingly call "The Switch Effect".
Pretty much every Nintendo series released on Switch has broken whatever series sales records they previously had.
Nintendo of Japan released a new Pokémon commercial that succeeded in making me feel very old by positioning 3DS as a retro system.
Can we wait until a system is 20 years old before we do a childhood flashback scene 😂
Yoko Shimomura is receiving a lifetime achievement award for her work in video games at the Game Developers Choice Awards!
Games:
Kingdom hearts, Super Mario RPG, Mario & Luigi, Street Fighter II, Xenoblade Chronicles, Smash Bros. and plenty more.
Aonuma confirmed in a new interview with Game Informer that the next Zelda game isn't going to be a sequel to Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, it's going to be completely original.
No rest for this series!
Full interview:
Pokémon Company released a statement saying they wanted to be sensitive to major world events and were unable to postpone the pre-scheduled Pokémon Presents on Pokémon Day, but they reduced promotion out of respect, giving fans the option to watch if they wanted too.
"Final Fantasy XVI doesn't feel like Final Fantasy"
"Breath of the Wild doesn't feel like Zelda"
"Pokémon Legends Arceus doesn't feel like Pokémon"
I've seen it all before. Whenever series try something new or different, those are the comments you get.
Best to ignore it!

There is a rumor I see being reported on that Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a more difficult game than some might expect.
Apparently, Nintendo has been calling it "The next Super Mario Bros. 3."
Whether it's true or not, I'd welcome a challenging 2D Platformer!
According to the Nate The Hate Podcast, the Breath of the Wild demo running on Switch 2 had the following features:
- DLSS
- 4K Resolution
- 60 FPS
- Minimal load times
I’m not really a video game merchandise collector, but this is extremely cool.
The master sword has been in bad shape before, but we’ve never seen anything like what will happen to it in Tears of the Kingdom.
I know Nintendo spent a lot of effort on all the different armor sets in Tears of the Kingdom but at the end of the day....
I just want to be the Hero of Time.
I'm seeing it reported now that the developers of Super Mario RPG Remake isn't Nintendo, Square, Grezzo, Camelot or anyone else people have been theorizing.
It's ArtePiazza, the studio behind MANY Dragon Quest games.
No wonder it turned out so good.
The individual who accurately leaked Super Mario RPG Remake and Super Mario Bros. Wonder in the previous Nintendo Direct has already started teasing games for the upcoming Direct.
A Nintendo Direct in September has become a sure thing lol.
Nintendo dedicated an entire slide in their financial report to brag about how successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie is.
Nobody could have really predicted it would become the second-highest grossing animated film of all time.
After 17 years, Ryo Nagamatsu announced his retirement from Nintendo for freelance work.
He worked on the soundtracks for some amazing games:
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Super Mario Galaxy 2
A Link Between Worlds
Mario Kart 8
Splatoon 2
Splatoon 3
Smash Ultimate
That Tears of the Kingdom Trailer felt like the one everyone has been waiting for.
Story, New Characters, Returning Characters, Towns, Bosses, Innovative Platforming!
He made this statement in 2013.
Wii U wasn't taking off and 3DS wasn't doing nearly as well as DS.
Now in 2024, his decision seems like a really smart one because 4 years later, Switch launched.
He passed away before he could see it.
According to GameIndustry, Switch passed Wii lifetime sales in the US last month.
Switch now trails the Xbox 360 by under 1 million units and PS2 by under 5 million.
What makes this truly incredible is Switch hasn't received an official price drop yet.
Square Enix/Final Fantasy Legend, Nobuo Uematsu says he doesn't think he's ever going to compose music for an entire game again.
He said he wants to spend the time he has left on other projects.

There is a common misconception that Switch users/owners are primarily children, but a new chart provided by Nintendo shows that not to be the case.
The biggest users of Switch are actually 20-30 year olds.
The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass is honestly better than I think anyone could have imagined.
When it was announced, we just thought we were getting retro courses.
Now we are getting new characters and new tracks too.
Half of my Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers seem to have an obsession with working out and the other half have an obsession with snacks and desserts. I sense some simmering tension on my island.
Nintendo released a Tears of the Kingdom/Breath of the Wild comparison shot.
I truly hope we get a dedicated Direct for Tears of the Kingdom soon.
This is clearly the most ambitious Zelda game ever made.
Best selling games currently on Amazon US:
1) Super Mario RPG Remake
2) Zelda: TOTK
3) Super Mario Bros. Wonder
4) FF XVI
5) Pikmin 1+2 Collection
In the US, the original Super Mario RPG on SNES sold 200k in one month. I have a feeling the remake will crush that haha.
After playing Tears of the Kingdom for 40+ hours, I'm close to starting the story haha.
I've done about 40 shrines, found 300 Korok Seeds and have done a few side quests, but I'm having so much fun exploring Breath of the Wild Hyrule again story progress isn't a priority!
Pikmin 4 had an enormous launch in Japan (physical only).
The biggest in series history.
Pikmin - 101,000
Pikmin 2 -162,000
Pikmin 3 - 93,000
Pikmin 4 - 401,853
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is 4 years old.
Key Stats
- 45 million units sold worldwide
- The best selling game of all time in Japan
- Almost three years since the last update
In my opinion, Nintendo should have supported it longer.
Oddventure is an indie RPG coming to Switch/PC in 2022. This is the first I've heard of it, but it's definitely on my radar.......
Any RPG inspired heavily by Earthbound has potential.
I can't wait to start up Animal Crossing: New Horizons tomorrow, and be able to fish, hit rocks and trees and not have to worry about eggs anymore.
At least in Animal Crossing, things are getting back to normal.
I discovered something I could do in Tears of the Kingdom at 150+ hours that I probably should have done at around the 10 hour mark...whoops...
I'm closer to the end of the game than the beginning and it's starting to depress me.
An all time great game.
Nintendo is officially shutting down online play for 3DS and Wii U games on Monday.
3DS and Wii U games can still be played offline, but alongside the already closed eShops, it's definitely the end of an era.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the
#1
physical game sold on Amazon US right now.
Yesterday's Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct clearly helped push people to preorder.
Deadline is reporting that the Super Mario Bros. Movie is forecasted to have the 2nd biggest 5-day movie launch of all time.
The movie hasn't even launched in Japan yet, where rumor has it, Nintendo is pretty popular.
Tears of the Kingdom isn't just causing people to buy Switch hardware, it's also causing them to pick up Switch's greatest hits...
I can't even remember the last time Nintendo owned the Top 6 on the eShop Best Seller Chart like this.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons Summer Update Launches 7/3

- New Sea Creatures for Musuem

Splatoon 3 sold 3.45 million units in 3 days in Japan.
This is the biggest launch for any Switch game.
This was so impressive that Nintendo actually made the announcement in a press release.

There are many things I like about Phil Spencer, but his obsession with acquisitions isn't one of them.
This email was sent at the height of Switch's popularity. Nintendo would have laughed them out the room again.
New Super Mario RPG Remake details from Nintendo:
- You can swap party members mid battle
- New music menu
- New bestiary
- Culex returns, but Nintendo teases something else.
