"They don't have guns, they have knives, and instead there's blood all over the floors of this hospital."
President
@realDonaldTrump
says he has read that a central London hospital is now "a war zone for horrible stabbing wounds"
given that
@ProfKarolSikora
was the only one of 30+ people to offer work experience, mentorship & support to a 17 year old from a working class family with zero connections, and then getting to know him a little, I can confirm he is indeed not a shape-shifting lizard or a puppet
On top of being a puppet for the British and Libyan Governments, I was accused yesterday of working for Putin!
Utterly bonkers. Maybe I'm a shape-shifting reptile too?
It's all water off a duck's back.
Have a nice Sunday everyone!
Delighted to have won the debate on joint preservation at the Sports Knee Surgery conference.
Managed to convince a room full of orthopaedic surgeons that rehabilitation will have the greatest impact on joint preservation over the next decade, no mean feat!

Frankly it's preposterous that junior doctors and trainees have not been given an equivalent (or greater) pay rise.
They were the most redeployed, most flexible and put upon group of all doctors outside of our intensivist / anaesthetic colleagues & vital to the Covid response
following on from my message this morning about the best career advice from
@ProfKneebone
, just received a letter informing me of my promotion to Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery & Surgical Education at
@QMULBartsTheLon
🙏🏼
Such sad news to hear of the passing of Professor Nigel Standfield, a giant in the field of surgical education.
He always put training first.
I owe my entire career to him and will forever remain grateful.
My sincere condolences to his family and much love to Prof 🙏🏼
@DrNeilStone
Hi Neil, these were taken at our annual regional academic day, we all had photos done during the day for many reasons.
Some of the comments (and surgeon bashing) are hilarious by people who know nothing about us, our trainees, our diversity, or the national selection process
RIP the great Freddie Fu, one of the all-time legends of orthopaedics. I had the pleasure of meeting him on a few occasions, his energy and decency were infectious.
Not just a loss to orthopaedics, but to the world of medicine and beyond.
Thoughts and prayers with his family.
We are quite used to being 'beaten up' in orthopaedics by other specialties, it's water off a duck's back by now, but seeing these photos and the diversity in our trainees and future consultant body makes me feel we are doing something right and are certainly on the right track
I have just been invited to do something that is pretty prestigious to do, I'm honoured to be asked, and it is totally within my skillset- and yet I can't help but feel there are far better people than me to do this.
Does imposter phenomenon ever go away?
Introducing our wonderful new knee surgeon colleague, Mr Jaison Patel. Totally forgot to mention him in my speech! 🙈
Looking forward to working together 🤝

So sad to hear of the passing of Prof Robin Touquet. Truly a Mary's legend, they don't make them like that anymore!
Did wonderful work in identifying & treating alcohol misuse amongst patients attending the ED

I have been invited with my better half (
@petebates
) to speak to the next generation of Ortho interested med students on 12/01/23 at 5pm.
@BLOrtho
happy to open it up to *any* UK students wanting to know more about a career in knee surgery, ortho trauma,
@OrthohubXYZ
plus Q&A
A real privilege to perform knee preservation surgery with my colleague
@TimSpaldingKnee
. Each operation is bespoke and optimised on every level with two consultants operating.
This is our latest meniscus transplant - teamwork makes the dream work!
To anyone wanting to know what medical training is like, this summarises it nicely.
And it never stops, you just bounce back up quicker the longer you do it
And huge congratulations to my dear colleague from
@BartsBoneJoint
Claudia Maizen for being named the Royal London Rotation Trainer of the Year 2022, thoroughly deserved! 🏆 🎉
@BSCOS_UK

My daughter received this as an Eid gift today and now doesn't believe me that I knew
@amateuradam
. Tried telling her about some of our med school soiree sketches, but then had to stop myself as highly inappropriate 🥴
This was a challenging conversation to relive the ordeal that
@FriendsofDSellu
went through, especially because I knew him personally to be one of the most caring & conscientious doctors I ever met.
His dignity shone through & his story needs to be shared

tomorrow with
@petebates
and a fantastic guest.
Will have to be on our best behaviour in front of a live audience!
On leave this week, 'out-of-office' on all emails. Received at least 6 emails with,"I know you're on leave but..."
Clinical, programme director & committee related- all important and yes, some urgent. 5 hours on laptop and phone yesterday away from family.
How do people do it?
