The most "Underrated" EF-5. The El Reno-Piedmont Tornado was a deadly tornado that struck the communites of El Reno, and Piedmont, Oklahoma, killing 9 & injuring 181. The Tornado traveled 60 devastating miles and was given a rating of EF-5 with DOW scannings of over 295 mph.

So EF5 is trending, so ill give my take on this topic. Weenies, just because DOW scans seen winds over 200 mph doesn’t mean that the tornado is automatically a EF5. The EF scale was made to be damage-based and not wind based like the old scale.

Around this time 2 years ago, the Storm Prediction Center would put out a Enhanced Risk of Severe Weather over southern Iowa. Along with the Enhanced risk, there was a 5% tornado risk, 30% wind threat, and a 15% large hail threat.

Interesting setup over southwestern Texas. Dew points in the mid to high 60s with SBCAPE at around 2000-3000 j/kg. A isolated significant hail event is also highlighted by the SPC in their D2 1730 discussion. Forecast Sounding is from Uvalde, Texas.

🌪️ Tornado Outbreak of the Day: On November 16th, 2015, A Plains Tornado Outbreak would occur. 43 tornadoes would touchdown with the highest rating being an 155 EF-3 in both Texas and Kansas. An 10# Enhanced Risk would be issued at 20z for a likely Severe Weather Event.
