Some say yesterday’s severe weather outbreak was a “bust”. Just because a tornado didn’t hit a larger city like Birmingham or Tuscaloosa doesn’t mean “bust”. There are real people who live in rural areas, and there is real suffering this morning. NWS surveys will tell the story.

At this time 12 years ago today, this tornado (upper end EF-4) was moving through Tuscaloosa. Video from John Brown and the late Mike Wilhelm. Understand this was just one of 62 tornadoes in Alabama that day, responsible for 252 fatalities.

This was shot 20 minutes after the tornado hit her home in Lee County. Earnestine Reese is face timing family to let them know she was okay moments after being pulled from the debris. She suffered a broken hip and is at the hospital now with surgery scheduled for this morning.
