I am being discharged from hospital this morning!
The Covid vaccine really protected me from the worst of this illness and I’m so grateful to the amazing doctors and nurses at Park Lane hospital
Thank you for your messages, prayers and love
I really felt your light around me. ❤️
@malusi_February
My mom had me, my brother and sister between the age of 35 and 40.
We grew up CERTAIN that our parents really wanted us, and that we were deeply loved.
We ALL pursued our dreams: me in journalism, my sister as a doctor and my brother as a CA/pastor.
I celebrate my older parents
AKA didn’t die in a car accident or from a sudden illness.
He was murdered, on a well-lit road in Durban, in full view of his friends and the public.
This isn’t an “untimely passing”.
It’s brazen criminality, made possible by the rampant lawlessness enabled by this government.
We would like to express our deepest condolences on the untimely passing of Hip Hop Superstar Kiernan Jarryd Forbes commonly know as “AKA”! May his soul rest in peace. The Megacy mourns you Bhova.

Things I ❤️ about South Africa:
If you cry in a public place, at least one complete stranger will tell you “askies sisi”.
And you will know they mean it.
If you want to know who South Africans really are, watch the reaction to the

Over the past seven weeks, America went from
332 Covid19 infections with 17 deaths
To 886709 cases with 50243 deaths.
South Africa went from one reported infection seven weeks ago
to 3953 cases with 75 deaths.

Thank you for the way you led your life and your incredible journalism.
Thank you for being brave and kind. And thank you for always believing that things should be better.
You blessed us all.

You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise....

you have endured so much cruelty and degradation, and you were not defeated by it.
Just as they try to trample you, you rise.
Eight years of love, friendship, hardship, laughter, sorrow, courage, truth, joy, struggle, purpose.
Eight of my very best years. I was blessed.
Thank you. ❤️

The unfortunate thing about the “insufficient evidence” position is that it denies Bongi Mbonambi what he is owed: complete vindication and an apology.
Do you shutdown South Africa, knowing it could destroy an economy already on the edge of collapse?
Or do you risk collapsing the health system, and causing thousands of deaths, by not doing enough to stop the spread of

There are no easy answers.
In 1997, a Child Protection Unit policeman based in Khayelitsha made a life-changing decision.
He arrested and then shot dead the man who had raped his six-year-old daughter.
He would be sentenced to nine years behind bars for doing so - by then Judge, later CJ Sandile Ngcobo.
Andrew Mlangeni spent 26 years in jail, only saw his children when they were adults, missed their weddings and the funeral of his beloved twin sister

It took 19 seconds from when AKA and his friends walked out of that club for his killer to wait until his back was turned and shoot him in the head.
He was vulnerable for seconds. But that was all the men who killed him and Tebello Motsoane needed.
They knew what they were doing.
Ladies, when you’re afraid of being assaulted, violated or murdered in your home, tell 10111 that someone has “illegal” alcohol in the house.
The police will be there in no time.
The EFF are fundamentally anti-democratic, in that they don’t believe that anyone is entitled to disagree or question them.
Their response to any form of opposition is abuse, harassment and attempted intimidation.
Because, in the end, they base their “power” on fear.
Never hope.
This flight from Bloemfontein to Durban is in a tiny plane and there’s no air hostess. So the amazing lady who was sitting at the front took it upon herself to distribute snacks to all the passengers. She even came to the back to ask us what drinks we wanted.
People in SA. ❤️
It’s devastating to search for other countries experiencing the level of blackouts that South Africa is, and to realise that the majority of them are:
war zones,
recovering war zones,
climate disaster sites
and nations in economic collapse.
We are a disaster, in denial.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has lost the political support of the ANC and is "very likely" to announce his resignation as head of state in the next few hours.
Ramaphosa will also resign as president of the ANC and will pull out of the race to be re-elected.
Thank you to all the people who stood up for me, supported, loved and helped me through one of the toughest years of my life.
Grateful to God - and to all of you - for the strength to fight (and win) this battle.
This birthday is for you.

The casual way in which life can be ended in South Africa is heartbreaking and absolutely infuriating.
Going to a post office, walking to your car, sitting in a restaurant.
There are no safe places in what feels increasingly like a mafia state.
This isn’t a way to live.
My friends know I have an autoimmune disorder (type 1 diabetes, anemia, thyroid issues, osteoporosis etc)
And so, they have carefully gone about making sure I don’t go out,
By getting groceries, medication etc and delivering it to my door
So grateful for these quiet acts of love

“I’ve never seen SA like this...we are not playing for ourselves any more, we are playing for the people of this country.”
Law enforcement in SA adapts its conduct depending on who they’re being asked to police.
Vulnerable, disempowered people are treated with unnecessary force.
Privileged and politically powerful people are met with paralysis.
Neither option preserves equality before the law.
What is the hill you are prepared to die on?
Mine is that South Africa is the most amazing country with truly terrible leaders.
Love this place and its people, but hate that is run by the worst of us.

Do people know you can disagree with others on social media without swearing at them, insulting them, lying about them or threatening their lives?
People may think differently to you.
It’s ok.
Today, on my 41st birthday,. I’m so grateful for the kind and supportive family I was born into and the family I chose: my friends, colleagues, comrades and heroes.
Being part of a strong and caring community is an incredible gift.
And I don’t take it for granted. ❤️
One of the hardest things about losing someone you loved is those 2 seconds,
after you wake up,
before you remember they’re gone
The 2 seconds after something happens and you want to call them,
and then you remember you can’t.
Those 2 seconds break me.
Every. Single. Time.

A Johannesburg mother convicted of calling a black woman a “k-word bitch” after she bumped into her and her t3-year-old daughter at a shop in Kempton Park has been sentenced to 6 months in jail
Marie Basson, 41, also told Nomsa Masuku she had a “fat ass” and should go to the gym
They did everything they could to conceal this young man’s identity, burning his body beyond recognition, so that his family would never know what happened to him.
They didn’t care that those who loved Katlego would have lived their entire lives wondering if he was ok.
So CRUEL
You can love South Africa.
And still be traumatised, every day, by its total lack of governance/effective law enforcement/accountability.
We have spent years in a state of chaos, enduring disasters and then trying to carry on.
It’s a terrifying and exhausting way to live.
Clicks staff who had absolutely nothing to do with producing or displaying the racist Tresemme ad are the people who are now facing the rage of the protesters - and cleaning up and repairing all the damage they leave behind.
Effective protest should not perpetuate inequality
Award-winning Ndebele artist Esther Mahlangu has been violently attacked and robbed in her home.
Mpumalanga police statement provides disturbing details of the attack, in which the 87-year-old was punched and strangled.

337 lives lost in the unrest that followed Jacob Zuma’s imprisonment.

You can have the best economic relief package in the world,
But it means nothing if you can’t get that relief to the people who are meant to benefit from it.
More than ever, South Africa needs administration that is honest, smart, organized and efficient.
The genuinely awful thing about not having a government you trust is not knowing if the crises you experience are genuine, or orchestrated to create opportunities for more looting.

Fmr President Zuma loses court bid to appeal ruling that forces him to repay over R16million spent by the state on his corruption trial defense.
High Court ordered State Attorney to “take all reasonable steps” to recover that money.

To show such contempt for his decision not only shows a deep lack of empathy and compassion, but utter disrespect for one of SA’s most respected judges
