I recently helped my brother appeal a decision by his employer to discipline him following 4 months off recovering from major brain surgery. Final written warning/removal of sick pay. He just called practically in tears, they have rescinded their decision following my input. 😃👍

I'm a lady that didn't have the best start in life having been orphaned by 11. I didn't have the opportunity to do A-Levels. I was only able to attend uni because of winning a scholarship. Now I'm a member of a University Board! Well chuffed @DerbyUni @DerbyUniVC @DerbyUniAlumni

Sat in the magsistrates today observing a defendant representing himself because he isn't entitled to legal aid and can't afford representation. Heart breaking to watch. Access to justice denied to so many due to cuts to legal aid. #CutsHaveConsequences

My mum would have been 60 years old today if she hadn't lost her battle to cancer at 34 years old. You may have lost your battle to cancer but you're still my hero. I will never forget you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Had a chat with a fellow barrister last week. He does Civil Law. He was telling me of the days he earned a pittance at the criminal bar, cases like a £46.50 mention! He nearly fell over when I told him the fee hadn't changed! Scary thing was he was talking about 30 YEARS AGO!

Pleased to be successful joining the CPS list at Grade 2. It’s been a really difficult 2 yrs being out of the Crown Court after a terrible accident & injury which literally brought my career to a halt after such hard work. After my recent 2nd op I’m hoping it’s onwards & upwards.

It's 25 yrs today since my Mum Helen passed away. This is my daughter, 11 today. I named her Helen-Louise after my Mum. I added Louise as I wasn't sure if she would like Helen alone. Well today she has decided to drop Louise & be known as Helen, after her Nanna in heaven ❣️❣️

I'm glad that at Christmas I decided to take a step away from @TheCriminalBar for the time being. Instead I've been doing other work & secondments. I miss it but at least I can feed my family! Something has to change! I worked 10 years to become a Criminal Barrister for this! 😪

The Criminal Bar has spoken. The current relationship with the CPS is broken. 95% are prepared to walk out or refuse to take cases if the [CPS] refuses to fix it. There has been no investment for 20 years. Nothing. It is unsustainable...

Overheard convo on train, lady looking to recruit-they need to be career driven, single with no children. Apparently you can't be career driven if in a relationship or parent. Law Degree, Bar School, Pupillage, Full time Barrister. I'm neither single nor without children! 🙊🤬🤫

Days like today make me realise why I worked hard to come to this profession! Client cleared of all charges 1 1/2 years later & paying privately due to no funding available! She cried with joy & relief as her nightmare was over! She said:'what about people that don't have money?'

@cookinginakettl This shouldn’t have happened but I can see how when barristers have little time to discuss with their opposing counsel and there are no facilities for food or drink left in many of the courts for jurors or counsel. They all end up in the same place!

I second that. If it wasn't for the Scholarships at @middletemple there is no way I could have taken the Bar Course. I had a 2 and 1 year old & not a penny to rub together. They helped me achieve my dream (along with a TV show appearance & PT Bar job)🍺🙄 Go for it! #thebar

Update: He is out of recovery & in recovery. Waiting for him to go on ward before family can visit. Spoke over the phone & his 1st words were: "I'm still invincible!"...... looks like he will be fine. 😂😂🙂🙂 Next few hours will tell. Thanks for all the good wishes Twitter. 😍

I met with Steve Hall editor of The Derby Telegraph last night. The first time Ive seen him since the interview that changed my life! In 2009, he placed his faith in me by awarding me a scholarship to study Law. He was delight having heard in Aug that I'd qualified as a Barrister

I can't believe it's a year since I found out I had pupillage. It has flown by. I have loved pupillage so far apart from days like today when it's my little boys birthday. I'm in London. He's in Derby. The first birthday that we are apart. Feeling sad 😓😓

I have just told my little girl she has been offered a place at the school we wanted. She has burst into tears of happiness. Although she knows non of her friends are going, she is delighted as she knows it's the best for her future. I'm so proud of her. #proud #excited

I have just received a request for Shoe Aids help at a school in the UK reporting pupils sharing shoes to take it in turns to come to school. How devastating. I will be speaking with them tomorrow & we will be providing the school/pupils with the help they need. @shoeaiduk

Ooo fab I'm featured in this. I am very proud to be Derby Uni Alumni. Are you Derby Alumni? What's your fav/memorable moment? Mine: Going into labour! YES I DID SAY LABOUR during an exam. I still managed to get a B+. Straight to hospital & home with a baby & KFC bucket by 10pm 😂

Well there is an 11 person queue at the Cells in Birmingham Crown Court for Lawyers to have conferences with their clients. In the meantime many Courts have come to a HALT! I think its going to be a long day!

Had my 1st ever Corrie Story Conference today and loved it! It was surreal to be sat plotting stories on a show I’ve watched all my life! What an absolute privilege being in the room with such talent even if I only had few hours sleep after the Corrie summer party last night! ❤️

I brought my little boy some cookie dough on the way home from our lovely meal @Turtlebayuk He refused to put the plastic spoon in the bin because he wanted to take it home & recycle it. "Just in case it ends up in the ocean" He makes me so proud. My hero ❤️😘👩‍👦 #ClimateAction

This a sad start to my 2nd six having worked for 10 yrs to achieve this point. 😓 The Criminal Bar is in crisis. It will soon be even more inaccessible to people from non traditional backgrounds like myself. What a loss to the future of this profession. #crisisinthecjs
