St Patrick’s Well in @tcddublin (by Nassau St entrance) is reputedly the primary baptismal site of Patrick’s first converts. It was once the focal point for #StPatricksDay festivities in Dublin city. The Irish version for Nassau St remains Sráid Thobar Phádraig #ThrowbackTrinity

From 1890s Irish & Indian nationalist causes became very closely aligned. Busts of Yeats & Tagore in Mumbai (NCPA) & Dublin celebrate this. There is hardly a town in India that doesn’t have AB road. Of Irish origin she was one of many Irish women fighting for 🇮🇪🇮🇳 independence

The Indian constitution drew on De Valera’s of 1937, except it was secular. Dev visited Delhi in 1948 as part of anti-partition tour. Mountbatten’s last act as viceroy was to host him. Ironic given Dev’s role in bringing down the Br Empire! Commemorated in a street name.😉

@Colonel_Zoeller @eoinbennis Yes. Many 17c indentured servants in Caribbean & Chesapeake only spoke Irish. Also Irish speakers in colonies in Amazon & Tangiers.

Yesterday the wonderful John Morrill spoke to @OxfordCEMS about new 3-vol edition of letters, writings & speeches of Oliver Cromwell. 9 editors have worked for 15 years to find ‘Cromwell’s voice’. This will be a remarkable resource when published in June 2022 by @OUPHistory .

Signed two new laws today to ensure students from Northern Ireland and the UK that study here can access our student grant system & that Irish students who study in the UK will also be able to avail of the grant system post #Brexit . Hope this helps
