“Eoin, do you think you had the luck of the Irish with you today?”
[Laughing] “Well, Adil said we had Allah on our side too, so we had that as well. It’s the rub of the green.
“It’s also reflective of our team; we’re a diverse side & we brought that togethr today.”

New hat to the collection! And it's the best of the lot. The hospitality we've received in Rawalpindi is second to none. Such a privilege to be here.

The only thing this pitch does is distinguish the best from the rest. Foakes with the gloves; Ashwin with the ball; Kohli with the bat. Which, tbh, is exactly what you'd want conditions to do: demonstrate ridiculous skill. Enjoy it.
#INDvENG
Pakistan, you beauty. A privilege to have borne witness to a small part of history. Congratulations & good luck to all involved for the rest, both now and long into the future.
#PAKvAUS
Wonderful to be in Pakistan. Such a warm welcome.
So much so that I hope that my brilliant Australia-based colleague & friend

series as only he can.
I get that it's legal. I get that it's part of the rules. But a tiny piece of my heart breaks seeing this happen at U19s level. I guess this is where the game is going...
Love that

series trophy has Benaud-Qadir names to it. Benaud only played 4Ts v Pak, but all were in Pak & he led that brilliant '59 tour, where an incredibly slow day 4 of the 3rd T was famously watched by US Pres Eisenhower. First & last US Pres to watch Test cricket...
The one on the left was labelled "Quick-thinking Foakes stumps Balbirnie". The same news site asks whether Bairstow's dismissal is “The most controversial moment of the Ashes so far?"

Pakistan's Interior Minister, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad, is at Rawalpindi.
Emphasises Head of State security for proposed NZ, Eng & Aus tours. Refers to "some ppl, esp. the Indians"(!) not being happy the tour is proceeding & "w/ the happiness of Pakistani ppl, who r cricket lovers."
Some news... After yrs working in int'l criminal law, earlier this yr I took the leap into conflict law (timing) & commissioned as a

Legal Officer.
Yes, I have a sword. No, I don't fly the planes. And no, I'm still not gd w/ heirarchy.
Also, hence little cricket.
There is something quite special about Mohammed Siraj, the son of a Hyderabad auto-rickshaw driver, bowling his side to victory amongst the popping champagne corks of Lord's. What. A. Game.

The best thing the English did this winter was to ensure Usman Khawaja got back to the stage on which he belongs: Test cricket. You're welcome.

The player of the match award is a belt buckle from the Australian indigenous tour of England in 1868. Feels pretty much spot on that it be given to only the second man, of 463 to play Tests for Aus, who is of Aboriginal origin. Spine-tingling stuff.

. Expecting more imminently.
Well the women are playing their 1st home Test in 2 yrs on a used wicket, 'cos there was a men's T20 Blast match on it last wk.
"Obviously not ideal," says Heather Knight, ever the diplomat. Tried to change it. Request denied.
I'm not a diplomat: bloody shambles, imo.
#ENGvIND
Oh Christ he’s now taken 4 wickets for fewer runs than he got hit for in those 4 balls and I ain’t even gonna talk about the state he left the likes of Root and Stokes in. I take it all back, I take it all back. 🫢

There is... so much wrong with the world, with cricket and this Ashes... but here's a dad with his two daughters peeking through the SCG nets at a couple of Aussie batters. And this is what I'm here for.
#ashes
And yes, obviously I was so harrowed by the Ashes that I've just decided to join the Australian press pack. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, yada yada... But really, I just wanted any excuse to go. I've found it. Happy, happy days.
Soooo... this is when
@CountyChamp
cricket comes into its own, right?
Low crowd numbers, non-contact sport, huge open space...
All other sports comps cease and county cricket will be the only sporting event still going, live on terrestrial tv.
Finally, our time has come.
England men's cricket team just proving Newton's Third Law of Motion: for every brilliant red-ball result, there is an equally catastrophic and opposite white-ball result.
And never the twain shall meet. The end.

Some professional news 👇🏽
I've left my Telegraph & BBC roles. Won't be covering live cricket this summer. Pursuing a long-held ambition outside sport.
Love cricket; want to continue to.
Looking forward to watching more women thrive in sports journalism - industry needs 'em ✌🏽
Worth reminding people, De Kock has no problem with symbols.
When he got a century vs the West Indies this summer he showed solidarity with Rhinos.
He clearly draws the line at anti-racism solidarity.
You lot dress it up how you want
Notable how the cricketers from each of Pakistan & India, & indeed the majority of the *cricket* media, are so magnanimous towards each other. Everything I've seen, and read, of past encounters suggests this is almost always the case. The jingoistic noise is external.
#INDvPAK
Honestly I hate standing up for the Aussies as much as the next person but my gawd, they play hard, ruthlessly & are damn good at it. The English aren’t the moral arbiters of the game and Christ if we were we’d be as flakey as the next nation. Umps & laws are there for a reason.
If you read my cricket coverage, and the only comment that you have is over the terminology used to describe cricketers who bat, ask yourself why the fuck you are watching cricket in the first place. 🙄
Can't quite express how disappointing the reasons cited by the ECB to pull out of this tour are. Either an abject failure of communication or a poor decision with little regard for the implications to Pakistan cricket. 😞
For those shouting "spirit of cricket" @ me, pls provide a definition of what you think this is and how attempting to gain an unfair advantage, as the batter was, is within that definition. Ta.
Make it your screensaver, your desktop background, your phone case, plaster it across your flippin walls kids that is the best catch you will see this season in an England shirt.
Don’t Ben Stokes me.

And done in three. This one will likely be over in four. One of many examples. Just seems a real shame that this is persistently focused on when Eng tour the subcontinent. Conversation needs to move on imo (

Sorry lads but if players don't want to be in an environment cos of covid concerns why *wouldn't you* hop on the first flight out of there, which appears to be what has happened. Convenience doesn't mean causation. Very okay with India's players going to IPL. 🤷🏻♀️
