She died on the job,
in an interim role
that she didn’t want. 💔
She was being a “good team-player.”
My deepest condolences to her loved ones.
“Temple University president JoAnne A. Epps has died after collapsing on stage at a university event”

The optics speak to how segregated NYC neighborhoods really are + the privilege to be unabashedly non-adherent. Creature comforts by any means necessary.
Dear Black Women/My Sistas,
Not every fight is “the good fight.”
Not every ground is worth your stand.
To stay here, you might have to leave there — and that’s ok. You have nothing to prove but so much preciousness to lose!
Mind your heart.
With Love,
Me
On Jan. 8, VP of Student Affairs at Lincoln University (MO) Dr. Antoinette “Bonnie” Candia-Bailey died by suicide due to distress from “bullying & severe mistreatment” in her role.
The community is now calling for the termination of President Dr. Moseley.

A slight reframe:
Dawn Staley recognizing Caitlin Clark is not merely class and graciousness.
That’s leadership — Authentic and Transformational in style.
Effective leadership transcends that which separates us. It is a connective, propelling force.
Dawn Staley is a force.
I don’t know about her health, but dying *on the job* was 100% avoidable — bc she wanted to retire!
There should be more than one successor in queue. Orgs should not continue to tap and overtax the same resource — to the point that they can’t retire…and then die at work.
@mel_med_larson
@RexChapman
This is as it should be.
As Toni Morrison once replied when asked how she deals with racism:
“My feeling is that white people have a very, very serious problem.
And *they* should start thinking about what *they* can do about it.
Take me out of it.”
@NPR
@hereandnow
Black patients forced to endure intolerable pain in healthcare spaces should be grateful they were ultimately saved from addiction?
Racists are really their victims’ advocates?
This spindoctoring is deeply problematic — a dangerous analysis the world could have done without.
Did you know that members of the Black Panther Party were integral to the development of the Patient Bill of Rights that is *required* to be posted in U.S. hospitals and provided to patients?

We have to first define “discomfort”.
Sixteen years of marriage have taught me that while growth is not comfortable, love is not uncomfortable. Charlotte said it best on the 1st SATC movie (loose quote): “I’m not happy every moment of every day, but I’m happy every day.”
@Camille_U_Adams
I want to say so much more but I don’t want it to seem as if I’m being critical of President Epps. May she rest in power, as she lived.
I am, however, incensed about how workplaces overtax and abuse the earnestness and excellence of Black people — especially Black women.
@AfricanDynasty3
Here’s mine about 7 years ago. My daughter painted with Eucerin. To this day, she’s still an artist, my son is still her co-conspirator and the headboard still gleams.
Still processing

.
Sticking with me right now is this line (loosely-quoted):
“It was just two deer tangled in some branches; and I set them free.”
The layers of that scene — the whole film...
@MissBeaE
@Shermichael_
The funniest part is that as he was walking the aisle he retrieved the mint from his pocket. He was entering the sanctuary for his father’s funeral and seeing his buddy and making her smile was a focus. Good coping.
In general, it’s good that we’re talking about dementia. Re:
#WendyWilliams
, it’s cruel & ill-informed to say her illness is deserved.
Instead of citing Karma, check out research on dementia in Black folks — a health disparity.
Yes, racism has entered the chat.

Why folks are so worried about our nonverbals.
That “Ladies!” was, “Stop that. We want to know what’s going on and we can’t figure it out!” 🤣
@Brieyonce
“You’re not moving!” — plus an eye roll?
Idk, seems like the same energy to me. It’s just softened in this clip because he’s posting to SM…and they appear to be event workers.

The consensus is that I’ve demonstrated high reliability in showing-up as my best self and exceeded all benchmarks in fostering engagement in my aesthetic efforts.
@alwaystheself
In prior years, she was unseated from her Provost role…all to be later tapped to calm the culture as Interim President.
“Pet-to-Threat” and “Glass Cliff”:
two of the classic workplace abuses of Black women’s time and talent.
@NotNikyatu
They way she had to high-five someone who insulted her, lest she seem not a teamplayer. What was the “good job” exactly — the she stifled herself and didn’t respond with like negativity?
I mean, the reality here.
@beyoncegarden
There’s something very powerful about the optics of Bey walking away and leaving her baby out there to shine on her own… while Bey has her back[up song].
@MyHandsRatedE
And stop just on principle alone because what other group of folks explains themselves the way Black folks do? We’re always trying to invite people in and make them comfortable. It’s kind, generous, noble...and undeserved.
@MissSassbox
“Oh, she trying on wigs?
That’s good.”
His, “That’s good” is just so sweet. There’s a hopefulness in it, a happiness about her resilience.
Then…“Smoke Hour ⭐️” 🤣🤠
@cuddapotato
The way Tic knew without a word (new level of connection and whatnot).
The way the brothers rallied to support her but also knew to stay back so Letitia “Leti” Lewis could righteously rage *her* way.
The gospel music.
“Lovecraft Country” forever!
@LowkeyBrilliant
Promptly and carefully following the rules, and — introverts, unite! — blissfully enjoying social distancing/staying home whenever possible. Also, a bit of luck. May I and it persist. 🙏🏾

Everyone wants knowledgeable people on their teams, but not everyone wants people whom also know their worth. Also, love the teammates who are celebrating MR celebrating herself! We need more women doing both.
@FTI_US
Thank you for standing by your company’s values.
As I trust you are committed to diversity, inclusion and equity, please consider a Black candidate — qualified and talented, of course — for this important role. There are many.
My maternal grandmother:
“Every ‘hello’ ain’t welcoming; and
every ‘goodbye’ ain’t gone.
Every closed eye ain’t sleeping; and
every open eye ain’t seeing.”
These sayings were words of caution and hope, always punctuated with, “You better ask God for discernment!”
@witchdctralex
If we get to said tables, the ancestors flip them with us sitting there.🤣
It manifests as our discomfort, dejection and discontent. As my grandmom would say, “You’re out of place.”
Indeed: We belong at “the table”...but not any and every table.

Sis in the red cardigan made a quick, keen assessment of the situation, organized the troops AND kept providing service to other customers via headset.
The accuracy. The multi-tasking. The loyalty. The behind-the-scenes leadership. On-brand for Virgo.

We’re not talking enough about COVID-provoked hypercoagulation. Many COVID-related deaths are from conditions caused by blood clots.
@notcapnamerica
We need people to ally better — ally period.
If a customer does not want service/care from a person of color on your team, tell them to get gone at that crucial moment. This salon owner actually enabled the tomfoolery, and only took a stand when *she* was directly offended.
Weathering of the body and erosion of the spirit.
The stress of being human *plus* social stress and hostile workplace environments: compounded, chronic harm.

@marclamonthill
Yes.
And, this practice has deep, sinister roots: taking something precious from “non-compliant” Black people to be a visible deterrent to other Black folks, should they also have the notion to not comply.
