@HarrisCoJudge
Hidalgo & I urged
@GovAbbott
to keep the mask mandate in place prior to this afternoon's announcement. Wearing masks keeps our businesses and schools safely open, decreases community spread of the virus and saves lives.

#MaskUpHou
Unless the governor is trying to deflect from the embarrassing failure of the electrical grid, his decision to open the state 100% and revoke the mask mandate does not make sense.
🚨 Businesses in Harris County, including the city of Houston, must require employees and customers over the age of 10 to wear a face covering in an effort to slow the spread of
#COVID19
.
I understand people want to open up closed-down businesses, but what drives me as mayor of the City of Houston is that
#COVID19
cases are concentrated in at-risk neighborhoods like the one I grew up in. This is personal for me. Do not gloss over it like it's not important.
🚨 We are sending a letter to the executive director of the Texas GOP party to ask them to cancel this month's convention in Houston. I am asking them to have a virtual event. It is not a good idea to have an in-person event. 🚨
We believe the water is safe but based on regulatory requirements when pressure drops below 20 psi we are obligated to issue a boil water notice. The City is submitting its plan to TCEQ for approval tonight.
The City Attorney is drafting an executive order that I will sign when I get back to City Hall banning choke holds and strangle holds. In this city, you must exhaust all alternatives before shooting.
#GeorgeFloyd
We can't act like this virus is yesterday's news. The minimum we can do to show the general public that we want the economy to open and stay open is to wear a mask. We are in a health crisis.
#MaskUpHOU
I fully support Governor Abbott's executive order requiring wearing masks in public places in countieswith 20 or more
#COVID19
cases. Although, I believe we need to do more.
If you're behind on your water bill, the City of Houston will *not* disconnect your water through the end of April. Your bill is not forgiven, but your water will not be disconnected. --Mayor Turner

#COVID19
The City of Houston is not cutting off water🚰. Although water pressure is low, we don't expect to cut it off as all systems are still good, and we're doing everything we can to boost up the pressure.
For people visiting all city venues & all city employees, you are still obligated to wear a face mask. If you're going to the library or the George R. Brown Convention Center, you will still be obligated to wear the mask. The governor's decision is a step in the wrong direction.

I also want to thank the President for his work on infrastructre, climate and for being a champion for the American people.
🚨 Today, I am announcing that we will begin issuing citations to people who are not wearing mask under the state's mandatory mask order.
@houstonpolice
will issue warnings and citations to anyone not wearing a mask in public, if they don't meet the criteriafor an exemption. 🚨
Power outages are my

concern right now. 1.2M people in Houston area are without power. Neither the City of Houston nor Harris County controls or regulates ERCOT or the power generators. The power outages are the responsibility of the State.
I have been on the phone with
#ERCOT
this morning. There should be some power restoration today.
The main thing the state must do today is increase generation and restore power. That will help a lot of people.
Today, I am signing an executive order addressing

: the use of force and de-escalation techniques by the Houston Police Department.
Let me thank those who protested and marched demanding change. We are listening and we are acting.
🚨 Today, I'm announcing the removal of two Confederate statues from our public parks. They will be relocated on Juneteenth (Friday, June 19), the day celebrating the end of slavery, at no public expense.
There has been no meeting where a lockdown has been discussed.
There are only three people who can make the announcement of a lockdown. The governor, the county judge, and I are the only ones who can make that decision.- Mayor Turner
Don’t become part of the problem. Please stay off the roads due to icy conditions.

Biden to Houston, a city full of great people and endless opportunities. My administration is committed to ongoing collaboration with the federal government to ensure Houston's prosperity thrives.
As the Texas Senate reconvenes today, for public hearing on the proposed voting restrictions, I firmly stand against any election bill that makes it harder for working class families, communities of color, and those underrepresented to exercise their fundamental right to vote!
Grocery stores are open. The food supply chain is sound. You may go outside as long as you practice social distancing.
The parks are open, but that does *not* mean you can flood the parks. You must still exercise personal responsibility.
