Not that I’ve been reading the review pages of a certain broadsheet or anything but it’s almost funny how much disdain can be found for crime novels, in a total refusal to see how ‘cultural shifts in Britain’ are constantly explored within the genre, often extremely well

Yes, agreed. She’s been open about working with a ghost. This practice of lying about authorship should be stopped - I don’t see how it’s not regarded as fraudulent misrepresentation when publishers mislead about ghostwriters. Maybe readers don’t care (?) but a lie is a lie.

Re the Millie Bobby Brown thing, I’m not sure attacking a 19yo girl is the answer. She didn’t decide on her own how it was marketed and presented, just as she didn’t write it on her own. It’s on publishers to be more transparent about how these books are really produced.

I’m sorry but this Guardian piece has thoroughly irritated me. I wasn’t even writing when I had my kids but actually there were times I wanted nothing more than to have some space from looking after babies and I accept no suggestion that that makes me a bad mother. It’s normal.
