a bullpen. Key take aways: Varies his setups, and you can notice he’s putting himself in a game-setting, signals, looks around(potentially checking runners etc).

Be selfish in your prep. Your mindset and focus will contribute to your team’s success.

What do you see?
Here are my thoughts:
On the left we see a stagnant “mitt” target, that flexes in and up - which then generates a two piece move. (BALL 4)
On the right, well, we see a pancake load to the ground, a pause and a one piece move.…
Adley Rustchman, Orioles. Paddle drill

Really good insights from Mariners (Hitting) Coach Tony Arnerich about the evolution of receiving, analytics, training and mindset.
Sound on.

Throwing/exchange progression.
A lot of this is segmented
1. Glove turns
2. Exaggerated glove turns/flips
3. Left handed claps
4. Transfer right foot step
5. Transfer left handed clap, step right left
6. Right knee sprinter rocks
7. Traditional throwing stance transfer exchanges
Reaction drill.
We took a Jr Hack angled it to our plyo wall, shot yellow dippled balls @ the wall, made sure the C was not looking when we shot the ball thru the machine, & made him try to catch it.
The catcher’s feedback was, “different, challenging…I like it.”
We did 3x50
Side angle view of Gabby Moreno.
Things to notice:
• right toe anchor
• depth of catch
• acceleration out of the stance
• front leg and foot ground force
• locked hip, greater whip
Stand up blocking. Not every blocking form is two knees down hands tucked into the 5 hole. Play the ball, don’t let it play you.

Hedges.
Turn the mitt, don’t flip.
This is such a fantastic example of the transfer. I’ll have students ask what the best way is to get the ball out of the mitt. This is it.
Let it travel, feed the hand.
Notice the (not sure what to really call it) “hip swivel” or “hip roll,” maybe “hip turn.” Either way, this is getting the Catcher in sequence quicker.
Sound on, about the transition from a sprinter start into a modified kickstand, and mechanics around a push or pull block.
Hedges, one of the best.

Jose Trevino, chest press forward. A loading mechanism. Big believer in this move, helps bring the eyes forward and lower. Puts the mitt in a better position for a cleaner route to the ball.
Combo drill:
• block
• tag
• pick to throw
• block
Speed is higher than avg, meaning the timing of the ball drop.
Speed up the decision-making process.
Triangle outfield drill:
• Start at top point move in catch line drive at you
•Move to left open up catch either forehand or backhand
• back in for another line drive
•Move to right open up catch either forehand or backhand
• come in for a sliding catch

This is a Hitting Approach I starting using as a Junior in College. Adapted from the great Gary Ward’s touch point approach, I found it affective and easy to remember. Scouting and information has gotten so much better. Almost all college games are televised which is a huge…
