Our related 2022 piece on how Adani and his empire, mostly built on coal, is given preferential treatment as an economic driver, and a glaring case study on how he gets very very rich:

Remember when heatwave warnings came unusually early for India last year (in in March) before we saw record-breaking temps? This year, the heatwaves are already starting. @karishma__m__

Thanks for reminding of one issue we didn't mention in the story: Adani's power plant in Godda is built by Chinese engineers, uses boilers/turbines and equipment imported from China. India of course has tightened screws on Chinese FDI, but unsure whether this construction counts

@gerryshih @NihaMasih @AnantGuptaAG It's a typical WaPo hitjob. Note that if Adani doesn't build coal plants, someone else will, possibly Chinese - at which point WaPo will praise the Chinaman

New: the Pentagon once thought Afghanistan had some of the world’s best lithium reserves and could tap it to prop up the fragile govt. Now, the trove could help prop up the Taliban— and Chinese companies — one consequence of the EV rush W @LorenzoTug

Today the coal crackdown has cast a chill over Indian climate campaigners, who are afraid to work lest they be painted as subversives working on a “Western-pushed” agenda. Lawyers and activists were singled out for collaborating with US Aus and UK campaigners on coal, docs show

India under Indira G, loudly denounced US NGOs as CIA “hand”. Yet US-India relations were indeed full of distrust as Nixon backed Pak/pursued China then. Today is converse: Washington bends backward to woo Delhi vs China yet Modi is tougher on Western NGOs than any prev leader

Our story on the wave of mob attacks on Christian converts in indigenous rural India. It’s fueled by anger toward wave of Christian evangelism — but also driven by local Hindu nationalist politicians stoking conflict to win elections, which they were quite open about
