Sure. No wifi, no dining car. Like all Belgian trains. But on the other hand, there are very few capital cities in the EU linked by a train running every single hour, every day, without reservations, and for really low fares (regular travelers can do the 3h trip for 12,7 €).

Luxembourg-Brussels train. Connecting two EU capitals. No wifi, no heating, no restaurant cars, not even a vending machine. 1 hour slower than driving, and stops at 10 towns in between with no express options.

A TRAIN FERRY ! 🚃🛤️⛴️🌊 The train ferry between Messina and Villa San Giovanni is the only remaining train ferry in all of Europe. The train is split into different sections and shunted inside a special ferry with rail tracks. As simple as that!

Across the square and up we go! We start "low" at 429 meters above sea level. In roughly 1½ hours, we will be up at 2253 meters above sea level. The Bernina is the only alpine railway crossing that literally goes up to the top of the mountain pass, instead of using long tunnels

We reached the top! Lago Bianco! Rather than an hourly regional train, at this moment, at this point the trip feels as if it was a little bit of an adventure. Crossing the Alps at 2253 meters above sea level, and with roughly -15°C outside. And yet, we're running spot on time.

Bernina Pass IV Another crossing. The line is single track but efficient timetabling and frequent passing bays, allow for high capacity. Remember, this may be a super scenic railway, but it's not a tourist attraction in itself. It's a normal railway running hourly services.

One of the supposed advantages of the TVR system was the flexibility, but as much as the vehicles can "de-cable" anywhere, the procedure to "reattach" to the guiding rail can only be done on places specially adapted for it.

TVRs are hybrid, able to run on electric ⚡ mode & with a diesel ⛽ auxiliary generator 40% of the route is actually done with manual driving (no guidance rail), but all of the line is driven under ⚡, at least on normal circumstances Diesel mode is for rides to depot & detours

@sim_palla I'm in no way sure about this, but I'd bet on two different private companies that just set up their stations relatively near. In the early days of railways there used to be 0 cooperation between companies, so this kind of "silly" situation was quite frequent.

Retro trains & bizarre monorails 🇩🇪 On Sunday @ManelRiveraB and I went on a daytrip to Nordrhein-Westfalen, to ride on the retro replacement trains on lines RE11 & RB40. Of course once there, it would be rude not to visit Wuppertal 😄 Nerdy thread ahead in exotic NRW! 🚂🚋🚟🚇

Next stop, Leernes. A tram stop in the "finest" 70s brutalism style. A building that looks more like the abandoned filming set used for one of the early Star Wars films, rather than a tram stop in suburban Belgium.

Yesterday, a group of rail activists gathered in Mons for a symbolic action. A funeral for the last SNCB international train from Mons 🇧🇪 into Aulnoye-Aymeries 🇲🇫 After 176 years, this Belgian city looses its international rail services into France. A #CrossBorderRail failure.

Arrival at Grado shortly after 22:15 A big mass of people await to board the ferry to Trieste At least 7 empty buses are waiting to shuttle us to a wide range of destinations. At around 22:45 the buses start leaving Grado A huge effort from Trenitalia to leave no-one behind 👏

Across Europe by train 🚄🇪🇺 Today I'm traveling Brussels 🇧🇪 ➡️ 🇨🇿 Prague by train. Comfortable & cheap. City centre to city centre. No airport checks, no queues, no waiting for hours before your trip. And much more sustainable than a short-haul flight 💚

Un pueblo con 3 ex-alcaldes. Los 3 imputados. Los 3 del PNV. ¿La primera decisión del cuarto alcalde? (también del PNV): Subirse el sueldo. En Arrigorriaga, la primera medida de la nueva alcaldesa de @ehbildu , ha sido recortarse el sueldo. SÍ, hay distintos modelos de gobernar.

PNV y PSE acuerdan una subida de sueldos en el Ayuntamiento de Alonsotegi; @asierrobles EH Bildu ha criticado duramente esta decisión que ha calificado como «inaudita y lamentable»
