Loving this talk on neural changes in transition to parenthood for mothers and fathers! In an era where we both undervalue mothers and are reshaping the role of fathers in caregiving, these findings are especially interesting! #ISDP2021

Thanks for this great intro to a network/systems approach to mental illness! The section on one symptom that manifests independently, then triggers others, makes me curious to apply this framework to sensitive periods for emerging psychopathology (eg, adolescence)

A question I'm left with from @childemotionlab 's talk -- what is the perceived stress that embeds adversity, in this view? What measures does it include other than conscious perception? #ISDP2021 Categories of perception will probably be as important as those of adversity

@childemotionlab @smith_ke @ChildTrends @PsychScience A fascinating read! Especially interested in discussion of predictability and social support as possible mediators of ELA and psychopathology. I wonder if, taken together, these suggest a significance of 1. perceived social worth, and 2. perceived stability of this status (1/2)

@michaelgarfield @TheMysteryDrop @VinceFHorn @danielschmach I think your earlier point about finding ways to accustom people to this reality, especially re the increasing unknowability of the complex systems we operate within, is essential. I’ve been exploring non literal ways to make sense of this, like art, narrative, and metaphor.

@michaelgarfield @TheMysteryDrop @VinceFHorn @danielschmach @jamesbridle My field of clinical psychology has made a turn toward complexity and will likely face the same questions, as mental illness shifts from clear cut diagnoses to symptom constellations. But the mental health field also likely offers sense making tools!
