Today’s EFR had a “patient” on the Maxwell Falls trail who was exhausted and most likely dehydrated. About 5 1/2 years old, 120lbs and a fluffy Great Pyrenees named Kate. Good thing Kato’s humans reached out for assistance as they were about 1 mile away from the trail head.

Moisture is great - minus the lightning which hit this tree. EFR hiked in; used 500’ of hose with water to knock down the flames; and scrape a line around the tree (Mother Nature kinda was helping but we wanted to be sure). Remember call 911 if you see flames or smoke!

It's time for the annual rut when elk, deer, and moose lose their minds to instinctual courtship rituals. Elk may gather in meadows closer to neighborhoods, but don't be fooled into thinking you can approach them. Observe these rituals from a safe distance to prevent injuries.

Final Update: Hazardous materials incidents can take several hours; the crash on Kerr Gulch Road on 7/6 was no exception. However, the road is now open, the wrecked truck has been removed, and no additional fuel was released. Your patience and agency assistance made a difference.

YES - it has gotten very smokey in the Evergreen area. We believe this is a shift in the wind and smoke is coming from fires in other areas of Colorado. If you see flames or a smoke column, please call 911.

The snow in Kittredge is almost as deep as a future firefighter, deeper than small dogs, and deep enough on one firefighter’s patio in Hangen Ranch that his kids needed a reminder to use a different door!

EFR is working with Clear Creek Fire on a wildfire near Dumont. Hardworking handcrews and helicopter water drops are keeping this from spreading.

EFR hiked into Three Sisters Park for a small fire. Hmm - no signs of mice playing with matches or down powerlines or recent lightning. AND we have Stage 1 fire restrictions...so wonder who/what could have started this!? This is could have been a disaster for our community.
