Aww Mary and Marina talking about trans people and coming out was just heartwarming. Sometimes I think we do the older generation a disservice
#Gogglebox
Let’s put that “it’s all political” nonsense to bed. UK enters a good song, with a singer who can sing, and staging which sells the song, and points come in. Yep, it really is that simple. Congrats Ukraine, a massive showing of solidarity - and a deserved winner too
#Eurovision
Two people on News Watch discussing the ‘excessive’ Eurovision coverage on the BBC last week. Not sure if they know, other channels are available. For people not really interested in it, they sure like to talk about it 😂
I hated school with a passion, like many, I was bullied. Coming out to my headteacher was one of the best things I ever did. She made my life a lot easier. Fast forward 18 years, we just had a lovely lunch together. Sounds cheesy but she helped make me who I am today ❤️🏳️🌈
Well said
@SamRyderMusic
! 👏🏼 Fantastic to have someone who genuinely seems to get it representing the UK this year. The “everyone hates us” thing is so ridiculous and lazy. I have a good feeling about
#EUROVISION
this year!
The BBC have done an amazing job, a superb show. I had no doubts, they do event TV brilliantly, but it’s so nice to see how they’ve made Ukraine central to the show too - rightly so 👏🏼
#eurovision
Ah Rita, the same Rita Ora who said her career would have been over if she hadn't walked away from the Eurovision selection in 2009… yet here she is 🤣 Brass neck!
#Eurovision
This is lazy stuff
@5WrightStuff
.
#Eurovision
fee is good value for 3 shows & +8 hours of primetime TV. The UK placing is not related to the fee, nor should it be, because that would make it, erm, a fix? Israel winning the public vote shows that music stands above politics.
Should the BBC ask for our money back after the farce that was
#Eurovision
?
@surieofficial
was ambushed on stage but bravely sang on, gave a really great performance and yet ended up 24th out of 26th! What's the point of paying £300k to be part of that? Time to be done with it?
He's the UK's most-streamed singer on TikTok, with Justin Bieber, Sia and Alicia Keys among the megastars to give him their seal of approval.
But can social media sensation
@SamRyderMusic
bring home the prize when it comes to Eurovision?
I have a ticket to the final 🙌🏼 I feel like I’ve won the lottery! ❤️ Happy Eurovision everyone! Wherever you’re watching, enjoy and may the best song win!
There’s going to be the usual lazy rubbish about Europe hating the UK... worth highlighting that Spain haven’t won for 50 years and don’t moan about it. Last time The Netherlands won was 1975. Tremendously exciting voting 👏🏼 Congratulations to everyone!
#Eurovision
President of BMG “Our aim is to move from the right-hand side of the scoreboard to the left” - humble, realistic, start of what will hopefully be a long-term plan to rejuvenate
#Eurovision
in the UK. Sweden’s overhaul in 2002 took a while to come to fruition... Let’s see 😎
2023 marks the first time in Official Chart history that four Eurovision entries have graced the Top 10 simultaneously - but yeah, Eurovision isn’t popular and doesn’t create hits 🙄👏🏼
I really enjoy the insights from
@Jacqui_Smith1
and
@IainDale
on
@GMB
- proof that you don’t need to shout each other down or fall out when there’s a difference of opinion. More of this please 😎
For years I’ve been saying that the UK should just enter a credible song and forget about trying to come up with a “Eurovision song” - I think they’ve done just that
As usual the Scottish Government are streets ahead when it comes to public health campaigns. They had equally impressive ones as part of ‘One Scotland, Many Cultures’ years ago. I think I’ll just follow their advice moving forward 🤯
I think
#IRL
has the best ballad of this
#Eurovision
semi. Great performance, stunning visuals. Strongest Irish entry for years - but is it enough? 🇮🇪
#AllAboard
Happy Eurovision! There’s a lot to consider this year given what’s going on in the world. There is more which unites us than divides and Eurovision is an example of that in action. So many people work so hard on this event - I think we are lucky to have it. Enjoy the shows!
I'm delighted to be joining North London Hospice as Head of Marketing, Communications and Digital. It's a great organisation that does really important work. I'm really excited by the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution in the charity sector.
Ah Gina G, this really should’ve done the business for the UK. Shame she was so out of tune 😭 Still, number 1, the last Eurovision song to make it to the top spot too
#Eurovision
I wasn’t even planning to go to Rotterdam this year yet hearing the
#Eurovision
theme tune I can’t help feel a lump in my throat. I know, sense of perspective needed, not the end of the world, but I know how hard the team work. This celebration idea is inspired, well done all! 👏🏼
This tweet demonstrates how ignorant she is. Of course it’s sad that Ukraine won’t host
#Eurovision
next year but it’s a mammoth event to organise and certain security guarantees are needed. You’d have thought that a Minister for Culture might have a better grasp of this…
We call upon the
@EBU_HQ
to review their decision and to ensure that Ukraine's proposals are given full and proper consideration.
They won it, they quite rightly want to host it. Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
Anyone else feeling a mixture of being slightly bereft that it’s all over and extremely grateful that we had it in the first place? Dankjewel Nederlands - amazing job 🇳🇱
#Eurovision
Fiona Bruce: “Question Time without a live audience isn’t the same programme” - thank goodness for that! I stopped watching it precisely because of that live audience 🤣
#bbcqt
So... UK Eurovision entry. First impression - I like it - but let's wait for the live performance and staging. It's a world away from the some of the choices over the past 20-odd years. Three decent songs in three years. A step in the right direction.
25 years to the day since
@KatrinasWeb
won
#Eurovision
for the UK. The contest is a very different beast nowadays but it’s nice that there’s a bit of buzz about it - could the UK finally see the left-hand side of the scoreboard this year?
If there’s ever a story of bad luck it’s
#ISL
- after being the favourites in 2020, they’ll never perform their song live this year. Very sad. If there’s any justice they should not only qualify but do well in the final... 🇮🇸
#Eurovision
I would absolutely love them to win 😭
One of the milestone moments in the
#Eurovision
calendar takes place tonight. I imagine most people in the UK will be watching with total bemusement though 🤪 “Wait they have semi finals?”
This is a shame - and really frustrates me. We've never had consistency, flip-flopping from national finals to internal selections. I thought for once we were on the right track with
#Eurovision
. Back to the drawing board, again.
Iceland was so ahead of its time in 1997. 16 of the 18 points awarded to Iceland came from three of the five televoting countries - brave and daring. It’s high time they won 🇮🇸
#EurovisionAgain
See, this is why we can’t have nice things! 🤣 Don’t get me wrong, love a bit of ABBA but “Waterloo” isn’t their finest moment. Still, what a good show and thank you
@bbceurovision
for allowing me to play a v small part in it 🙌🏼
#Eurovision
Nadine Dorries has retweeted this. On first glance it might be seen as a lighthearted thing. Not so funny when you remember MPs have been murdered - including her own colleague David Amess who was stabbed last year
I don’t know about anyone else but I’m really looking forward to
@EurovisionAgain
and a bit of escapism tonight. I’m going to get some champers in for the occasion too, life’s short so why the hell not
#EurovisionAgain
One of the things I find most impressive about Eurovision is the sleek production - set changes take less than a minute - so many people work so hard to make it happen 👏🏼
2015 was the year I met Stuart at Nicki French’s Eurovision party. We dubbed the woman in the background ‘the neighbour who can’t bear it’ - the look on her face says it all 🤣 Happy memories
#EurovisionAgain
En route to Paris for the first semi-final of
#DestinationEurovision
2019. Judging by my eye bags the makeup team will have their work cut out! 😂 Looking forward to the show ce soir 🇫🇷
I’ve given several interviews this week talking about what a joyous event
#Eurovision
is, yet seeing some of the comments on the rehearsals by accredited individuals it’s more like a nest of vipers. Very sad
Charles and Camilla on the
#Eurovision
stage - 12 months ago this would’ve been completely unthinkable 🤣👏🏼 Looks brilliant, getting excited for the shows now. Good luck everyone 🙌🏼
The inclusion of Australia started out as a one off and has proved a very good move. They’ve delivered time and time again - and could teach old timers a thing or two (yep - UK, looking at you)
#EurovisionAgain
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted a country to win more. Also my dog perked up for the first time this evening. A sign? Wishing
#ISL
all the best
#Eurovision
Eurovision ‘99 took place as I was doing my GCSE exams. I spent half the week revising, and half dialing up a phone number provided by the fan club. They had an answerphone message where you could hear the latest from rehearsals. It was cutting edge for the time!
#EurovisionAgain
The big day is finally here! 😱 Excited but also nervous.
I’ll be running on the right-hand side of the course and for those spectating you can track me on the
@LondonMarathon
app.
Thank you so much for all the support - good luck everyone!
#LondonMarathon
let’s be having ya!
Quite something when you see reports of Moldova, poorest country in Europe, taking in thousands of Ukrainian refugees - with many opening their homes. Meanwhile Priti Patel is faffing around with paperwork and talking about security threats. Shame. Shame. Shame.
