Just got into Ivankiv. A town cut off from the outside world until yesterday when a temporary bridge enabled access. Horrifying accounts of shootings, rapes, etc. Hospital trying to save injured with no electricity or running water.
Appalling scenes in the village of Dmytrivka near Kyiv today. Civilians scavenging for discarded ration packs amid smouldering wreckage of at least 11 Russian armoured vehicles. Bodies of Russian tank crews burnt and disfigured. Grim beyond words.
Looks like a lot of people choosing to leave Kharkiv right now. Seeing many more cars going out than we’ve seen over the last 3 days. I suspect the missile strike this morning in Freedom Sq has left many in no doubt the city faces bleak days ahead.
Just a reminder to all journalists, bloggers and activists that posting footage/video of Russian prisoners of war is against the Geneva convention. Remember a lot of Russian soldiers are 19 year old kids who don’t want to be here and don’t know why there are.
This is a deeply disturbing development LVIV, Ukraine, March 9 (Reuters) - Radioactive substances could be released from Ukraine's Chernobyl nuclear power plant because it cannot cool spent nuclear fuel after its power connection was severed.
Almost 7 weeks, & we are leaving Ukraine for a break. Moving to see so many people forced to leave their homes travelling the same way over the Danube. We’ll be back in Ukraine soon. Until then we’ll be thinking of everyone we met and all
@itvnews
crew still there
The parallels are stark. Once again we are seeing mass graves, summary executions and rape. I still can’t quite believe this is happening in the twenty first century.
Breaking: The mayor of Irpin has just announced Irpin has been liberated and now is being cleared of remaining Russians.
The mayor says it's not safe to return there yet. He also says the army is now going to liberate Bucha, Hostomel and Vorzel.
Just now we saw people distraught as a military hotspot enabled them to finally connect to loved ones elsewhere. Their faces tell a story of grief after 35 days without news. Many learning about the horror of this war and who has perished
Apologies I made a mistake in this - the missile strike was obviously this morning not last night. I’ve not had much sleep like everyone here so sorry fir any confusion .
Situation in Kharkiv appears to be worsening - more footage emerging of damage to buildings. How Putin thinks he will occupy this city after inflicting such devastation is beyond me. The population will never forgive Russia for this.
Seems like around Kyiv Ukrainians are putting up very stiff resistance. On the southern front where I am, Russian forces have taken Melitipol and will clearly be looking to push north along Dniper river.
Mariupol - where the living and dead co-exist, where hospitals no longer accept those whose limbs have been blown off because they can’t save them, where feral dogs roam shattered streets, where planes stalk the sky raining destruction at random.
Good morning from Ukraine. The war is one week old. More shelling and air strikes in Kharkiv. Russians claim they control Kherson. Kyiv still holding out against Russian advance.
@itvnews
will continue our coverage across as much of the country as we can today.
The Ukrainian town of Bucha where atrocities on a sickening scale are being uncovered. We hear accounts of rape, mass executions. War crimes which must be investigated and one day brought to justice. This is distressing to watch but vital to bear witness
Destroyed Ukrainian fighter jet in woods north of Kyiv. Pilot apparently unable to eject when forced down by Russian plane. Buried by locals - body recently recovered.
TV news is a team sport. I am lucky to have a fantastic bunch with me.
@johnangier
and
@camera_markitv
and our great translator, security expert and driver. I don’t want to name our Ukraine team for security reasons but they are so brave, hardworking & calm
In Dnipro, the force protecting regional administration building - they know the Russians are advancing rapidly towards this city of a million people…and they are preparing to fight.
I had the pleasure of chatting with this Ukrainian gentleman, Ivan. 87 years old, he survived the SS in ‘41. He thought he’d seen it all but has just cheated death again after a Russian shell exploded in his garden, shrapnel piercing his leg. His handshake as firm as his resolve
The distant sound of shelling reverberates along the platform as families say their farewells and leave, not knowing when they will return. The Russians are 20 miles away and advancing each day. The city of Zaporizhzhia slowly empties of women and children.
The massive increase in wheat prices (up 40 % this week) will have a profound impact on countries like Lebanon. The impact of this war will be felt for years right around the globe.
Very bad sign when the Grad multiple-launch rocket systems get brought to the front. They rip apart everything around them and can blanket a huge area. Here’s an apparent Russian attack today on the Ukrainian town of Schastia, which translates to Happiness.
This is a still frame from one of few videos to cone out of Mariupol. These poor children subjected to the most terrifying onslaught by Russian forces. How can there be any justification for not allowing them to leave this nightmare?
Sums up the spirit of defiance and deep sense of humour we've encountered with many we have met here. Please, if you have a Javelin anti tank weapon, don't try this at home....
This is such awful news. Emily was a brilliant, brave, kind colleague and friend to us all. She will be sorely missed by the ITV News family. Her work in the pandemic set the standard for calm, measured, detailed reporting.
We are devastated at the passing of our remarkable colleague Emily Morgan.
Emily was a hugely talented journalist and a much-loved friend and mentor to so many here. She will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts are with Emily’s family.
Statement:
Incredibly loud , each shot reverberating across this great maritime city - no one here can remember the last time the Royal Naval base conducted a 41 gun salute.
I love the fact that someone has bothered to plant out these flowers even in the shadow of the bombed out shell of city hall in Kharkiv. Pride in this country is profound.
Couple of weeks before the war we were enjoying the vibrant city of Mariupol. Buzzing bars and cool restaurants …all now gone. And how many residents killed ? How many forced to flee? I still can’t comprehend how fast it has changed.
Horrifying reports from
#Mariupol
; thirsty people draining water from radiators; streams contaminated by rotting bodies; dogs feeding on corpses; people eating dogs & scavenging for food in bombed buildings. Apocalyptic nightmare in a place where, 1 month ago, life was normal.
OK. Here's an idea. What if everybody wore blue and yellow on Tuesday 1 March to show that we
#StandWithUkraine
? It's the very least we can do. Retweet if you're up for it! PLEASE let's make this happen.
#blueyellowTuesday
On World Press Freedom Day, remember those who are in places like Ukraine risking it all to show you what is happening. Most aren’t on camera, but behind the scenes, filming, getting satellite dishes to work, setting up interviews, driving, watching our back.

Putin’s tone is especially bleak. Essentially Ukraine isn’t a proper country and shouldn’t exist. Still waiting for the final flourish after the history lesson, when he says what he’ll actually do..
I can’t remember filming anything this grim in a war zone before. Ukrainian residents scavenge for abandoned rations amid charred and disfigured bodies of Russian soldiers. Our report is here
This is just gut wrenching to watch. That they weren’t seriously injured or killed is a miracle. It underlines the risks around every corner in Ukraine these days.
