The main argument seems to be that the state would have to pay out of its own pocket to electrify private rail. Yet somehow they only calculate $50M for hydrogen fueling centers. I suspect they are assuming federal grants to offset most of the cost.

Unless @GavinNewsom gets off his duff and works with legislative leaders, the Bay Area will face a non-functional transportation system. It's extremely short-term thinking, and will _cost far more to fix_ than to avoid. Newsom's staff can be reached at (916) 445-2841.

Our leaders in Sacramento have one week to save public transit. June 15th is the state budget deadline. I again urge the State Legislature to work with the Governor to fund transit and prevent the fiscal cliff.

A story in which we find Caltrans lied by omission in an EIR, and we learn more about a project that Jeanie Ward-Waller blew the whistle on. "New questions emerge over Caltrans approval of $140M highway plan in Fresno County"

Seems really bad. Does the agency think these numbers will recover? A 50% drop in ridership clearly shows cyclists are avoiding the new design. Personally, I find the intersections far scarier when turning. There is no good place to wait. The bike boxes are totally unprotected.

People biking on Valencia Street decreased by up to 53% after the unintuitive, dangerous center bikeway was installed. SFMTA data from September shows a significant decrease, highlights need to install curbside protected bike lanes. Please sign petition:

* 48 Quintara (101%) * 49 Van Ness (143%) * 56 Rutland (_120%_) * 90 San Bruno Owl (_127%_) We've heard a couple times that night buses are "empty," but the recovery of the 90 shows otherwise.

I know time is tight, but maybe Ting should have an aide actually tune in to the BART Board or the SFMTA Board? Both had expansive discussions this week about just how not "business as usual" they are running things. So frustrating to have your representative gaslight the media.

Another reminder that, as a state, California lacks real climate leadership. The plan is to futz around with bad technology for a decade or two and then, maybe, reconsider doing the right thing.

Refreshing honesty from Caltrans’ Gradinger: 1) catenary is the gold standard 2) Caltrans doesn’t believe California can increase regional and intercity service levels to justify costs

A significant number of driver have start to use the bus pullout across from Forest Hill Station to drive "around" the red light at the crosswalk. I don't see this much during the day, but at night it's 1 in 20 cars or so. Tonight it was two cars in four minutes.

While I'm ranting about TNCs, let's talk about congestion. People seem to think bike lanes cause congestion. No, my friends. "Network changes" (bike/bus lanes, other lane use changes) accounted for 2% of additional delay hours between 2010 and 2016 in San Francisco. TNCs? 51%.

Last week at the SFMTA Board Workshop there was a multihour discussion of what needs to happen to rebuild trust in SFMTA. One positive step would be for the agency head not to encourage drivers to through drive on slow streets, while simultaneously feeding anti-cyclist sentiment.

Open Lake Street recently shared a video in which @jeffreytumlin privately encourages safe street opponents to use slow streets for cut-through traffic. We won't share the video, but we're tired of the city jeopardizing safety to pacify the most entitled, dangerous drivers.

"Imagine if instead of investing hundreds of millions of dollars in asphalt, Caltrans focused on upgrading the Amtrak Capitol Corridor to provide fast, frequent, all-day service under 100% clean electrical wires." Imagined and approved.

New from me: Caltrans's I-80 CEQA analysis is flawed and reflects a concerning pattern that must change for California to reach our climate, mobility and equity goals.

All public transit should be free on spare the air days, funded by a regional pot of money. We know how to cut pollution emissions dramatically, and it involves taking cars off the road.

The @salvationarmysf is fighting a proposed boarding platform at 19th & Sargent because - you already guessed it - it would remove parking. In return, riders would no longer have to dodge cars as they boarded/exited the M. There is ample free (!) parking on Monticello and Sargent

The new design for giant placards at City Hall and the “I voted” stickers is more detailed than previous years: parrots, poppies, a seal, the bridge. And if you want, you can pose for a selfie and instill civic pride in all your followers.
