What if sites could specify their own
@arcinternet
actions via HTML metatags? The idea is we'd expose some core primitives, and then sites could build on top of that.
Would you find this useful? What would be on your wish list?
It's spring cleaning
@browsercompany
!
Live in today's release —
Before: opening a new could window take 4+ secs on my M1
After: opening new windows shows no delay
Baby steps... 🙂
Life update: after 7.5 years, today is my last day at Pinterest.
I’m forever grateful to the team for taking a chance on an overly optimistic college dropout from the Midwest. This company has changed my life forever. 🖐🏻📌❤️
THRILLED to share I’m joining the wonderful folks at
@browsercompany
at the end of November!
I’ve wanted to work with
@joshm
&
@hursh
since first meeting them back in ~2011. After meeting the rest of the team & using the beta builds, it’s a no brainer.
Let’s go! 🥳🖐🏻💯
Tiny thing dropped in last week's
@arcinternet
release: Membership Card stamps!
It was fun to jam on these with
@karlamickens
&
@j_l_kelly
.
My favorite part — the stamps rotate and nudge themselves around when randomizing, just like on loyalty card stamps from coffee shops.
Real talk: working remotely can make you feel super lonely. Big fan of everyone trying it out, but it’s very easy to burnout *especially* when most of the team isn’t remote as well.
Strongly encourage anyone trying it out to heavily focus on mitigating this from the beginning.
Six years ago I started working for
@Pinterest
.
Grateful for the world-class teammates, mentors and friends I’ve made along the way — thanks for taking a risk on an overly optimistic dropout from the midwest.
High fives, y’all. Let’s get back to work. 🙌🏻❤️📌
Wow,
@_adenab
is the first person I’ve ever scheduled something with who proactively set a buffer for naptime unpredictability. Thank you! Wish more people did this. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It’s pretty inconsequential with the state of the country, but I’m excited so here we go...
the end-to-end core of a thing I’ve been hacking on during nights, naps & weekends (with some A+ people) all clicked together today and is working lovely. 🎉🖐🏻😷
A few weeks ago I LOL’d @ the parenting advice “keep the kid alive and brush your teeth sometimes”. It’s very true - never have I appreciated a 2+ hour stretch of sleep like I do now. Also, very thankful for the generous parental leave policy
@PinterestEng
. Here’s the little man!
Some of you have asked, so here we go: for the foreseeable future, I’m going to be focused on childcare for our son.
It’s not ideal (I love to work!), but since I’m at high risk for COVID-19, we’re being extremely cautious & don’t want to risk having our nanny back in the house.
Feeling super thankful to be on team
@Pinterest
today. Lots has happened since I joined - dropped out of school, got engaged, moved across the country twice (and a half!), got married, bought a home, became an uncle 3x. Life is good. 🙌🏻❤️📌
Having a “yes, and” day with Charlie is just what we both needed. If you’ve got kiddos, I can’t recommend this enough.
Ice cream for lunch? Please. Buy sister a gift, just because? Of course!
Paired with a little staycation downtown. Look at the joy on his face!
Little man said* “Dada” on Saturday & Sunday, and woke up repeating it this morning. 🥰
So yeah, how’s your day going?
* made the sound, not knowing what it meant
That’s why we raised $50 mil. That’s why we’re being so bold.
That’s ALSO why we started this company in the first place. That’s why we’ve been building at browser layer.
It’s never been about making a Browser, but waiting for opening to build a new OS… here it is, lucky!
Excited to share that
@makressin
and I are moving (back) to Kansas City at the end of the month! Thankful that I can continue working for 📌 and will be visiting SF fairly regularly 🌯. Onward!
Just went inside Whole Foods for the first time since Feb ‘20. Charlie’s first time since then, too (he was 5 months old). Absolutely loved it. We then walked to a coffee shop. And he’s seeing my mom for the first time since Christmas of ‘19. It’s 75 today. Great day. ❤️
just booked my first trip to nyc since the 📌 IPO (and first flight since my last day there in Feb of ‘20). i am so, so excited. it’s a quick one to meet some of the Browser Co folks next week. ❤️🖐🏻💯
We still have a long road ahead but...
Here’s a little sneak peek at an early version of Arc on Windows ✨
It is nice to see Arc start to take shape, and we are sprinting to share the first built with some brave folks this winter 👀
Excited to share that

3 years ago today, M & I decided to move (back) to SF from NYC. It was extremely difficult at the time. Looking back, I’m incredibly glad we did. I got to try out managing, start a team with
@bthdonohue
& help lead our Product Eng org as an IC. Chalking it up as the right call!
Things are pretty weird right now. Here are some photos of my kid. Hopefully they make you smile, even a little bit!
(I’m telling myself that in the last one he’s winding up for a high five.)
March 8, 2020 / Feb 21, 2021
Last year, we brought Charlie to see my grandma. That night we started quarantine.
Well, Mamaw got her 2nd vaccine a few weeks ago. She slipped her mask off for a few photos with the (not so little anymore) little man. So happy! ❤️
Got a city bike & infant seat for my birthday/Father’s Day (didn’t want to attach things to my road bike).
Finally arrived today; I love it! Not sure who’s happier about it 😂
But really... once we were rolling, Charlie was ALL smiles.
Show & Tell time!
It's a macOS app that sits in your menu bar & lets you quickly save/unsave
@spotify
tracks. I polished it up last weekend.
Have been using it all week. It's little, but I've wanted it for a long time.
Will do a write up of how it works & open source later. 🖐🏻
The past few weeks have been pretty hectic.
My father-in-law passed away on the 19th; we celebrated his life today. Dave was a truly wonderful man.
I wish he could have been around to meet his grandson due later this summer, but I’m so thankful for the 14 years I’ve known him.
Me, at therapy yesterday: “yeah I am going to be intentional about taking better care of myself - 8h of sleep, eating well, etc…”
Me, last night: “yes I am going to stay up past midnight spit-shining the browser while eating Thai food and drinking beers”
It was fun though! 🤷🏼♂️
I used to do a lot of sell calls for candidates who were considering
@PinterestEng
. I’d often describe the product as “my happy place; where I go to be inspired and motivated to live a life I love”.
That’s been very true, especially the past few weeks.
2019: $PINS IPO, Father-in-law passed away, had our first child, bought/sold house & moved
2020:
Jan 1: “Let’s have this year be really boring. Cool? Cool.”
Feb 7: Quit job @ 📌
March: Pandemic declared
I think
@makressin
& I jinxed it. Sorry, everyone!
